EMIT:TIME’s Identity system is as simple as reading a clock, but represents the core essence of timepiece design and horologyand it’s evolution. The logo is an homage to digital timpiece, and the atomic age. The colors were chosen to be simple, complimentary, and representative. The Orange represents the sun, by which one of the earliest timepieces, the sundial, was designed. It also represents the sands of time. The indigo blue represents the evolution of timpiece technology and the backlit color for those digital timepiece that you can see in the dark.

An hourglass (sandglass, sand timer, sand watch, sand clock, egg timer) measures the passage of a few minutes or an hour of time. It has two connected vertical glass bulbs allowing a regulated trickle of material from the top to the bottom. Once the top bulb is empty, it can be inverted to begin timing again. Factors affecting the time measured include the amount of sand, the bulb size, the neck width, and the sand quality. Alternatives to sand are powdered eggshell and powdered marble (sources disagree on the best material). In modern times, hourglasses are ornamental, or used when an approximate measure suffices, as in egg timers for cooking or for board games.

A timekeeper is an instrument or person that measures the passage of time; in the case of the latter, often with the assistance of a clock or stopwatch. In addition, the timekeeper records time, time taken, or time remaining during events such as sports matches. A timekeeper is often referred to as a time clock, which tracks employee time. Collecting such data gives employers insight into their workforce. They can then make operational decisions to increase productivity and reduce labor costs.

Generally, mechanical clocks have two essential elements; a mainspring and a pendulum. When the clock is wound with the key, the mainspring is tightened. As the mainspring unwinds, it turns the gears, which move the minute and hour hands at different speeds around the face of the clock. The pendulum ensures that the hands move at a regular pace. At the top of the pendulum are two hooks called pallets. As the pendulum swings, the pallets allow the escape wheel to turn slowly and evenly. There are also many unique kinds, like the fountain clock, water-powered.
