Good Deeds + Good Designs = A Refreshing Collaboration Dozens of the area’s most prominent design professionals joined us in our Jupiter showroom on March 10th for 100 Fountains: Water for Africa. The event was a celebration of spectacular Fantini faucet collections and the philanthropic work the company is doing to bring water to areas of the world where it’s needed most. Miller’s Fine Decorative Hardware was proud to host and sponsor this very special evening. Thank you to Fantini, LUXE and our many colleagues and friends who joined the celebration. A Conversation with Vicki Pfeil Owner and President Q: Tell us a bit about the history of the company and your role at Miller’s Fine Decorative Hardware. A: After 5 years of managing and selling for the decorative hardware and plumbing business, I purchased Miller’s Fine Decorative Hardware in 1994. I remained in a sales capacity while also operating the business until 2007. Since that time, I have remained focused on growing and managing the business. I expanded the Jupiter showroom several times, each time adding more showroom space and warehousing. By 2010 we realized we were ready to open a second location and by 2011, we opened our West Palm Beach showroom. Q:What are a few trends you’re seeing in high-end kitchen and bath design? A: I think clients today are looking to make their spaces more individualized. And this is made possible with the influx of materials like stone, ceramic, glass and

man-made solid surfaces coupled with a myriad of colors. There is so much more in the market to work with that makes this a reality for our clients. Inviting, warm and “transitional” are still the buzzwords being used in home renovations and new construction. When I was visiting one or our primary vendors in LA last month, they said it best: “I think we are all tired of the white and grey marble baths.” We are definitely seeing that change today.
Q: What are some tips for incorporating decorative hardware into your space? A: Keep it simple to start, including: • Change your cabinet hardware in both the kitchen and bath. You’ll be surprised how this refreshes your space. Before visiting the showroom, remove one of your cabinet doors or a drawer and bring it with you to the showroom. It will make the selection process much easier. • Replace your “over-the-vanity whole mirror” with individual mirrors and new lighting is reasonably easy, especially on an interior wall.
• Update your bathroom finishes by replacing the lavatory faucets and add new accessories. • Project complications and additional costs usually occur with vanities, kitchen cabinets or trying to replace in-wall plumbing in the shower. But replacing in-wall plumbing can be easier if it’s accessible from an interior room. It’s much easier to replace drywall in a room, hall or closet than replacing tile or marble on a shower wall that you had installed years ago.
