Orange shoots down Rockets By Kelly Snow courier-times sports editor kellysnow@roxboro-courier.com
The Orange High School boys’ basketball team drilled its first 3-pointer 27 seconds into Monday’s game and its last with 12 seconds to play. And the Panthers hit a whole bunch of them in between as they rolled to an 89-64 rout of Person in Roxboro. The loss was Person’s (4-4) fourth in a row and its only double-digit defeat of the young season. The Panthers blistered the Rockets from beyond the arc, hitting 15 threes in the victory. “We ran into a buzzsaw tonight,” Person coach Charles Dacus said. “Our hats off to Orange. They played good, and I thought especially they shot the ball well from deep. When they missed, it seemed like they were always in position to clean up the offensive glass. We knew Orange was going to be a good team and they showed it tonight.” The Rockets have been victimized by long-range shooters in each of their last four games. All four opponents during the losing streak have hit at least five threes against Person, with Orange torching Person for seven before halftime. For Dacus, the Rockets’ perimeter defense must improve and in a hurry. “The last three, maybe four games, we haven’t been playing very good defensively. It seems like we’re getting worse and worse,” Dacus said. “At practice, See roCKets, Page 7 Kelly sNow | courier times
