REPORT

2020 was a challenging year for everyone. At The Art Hub we had to pivot like many others and restructure our programs from in person to online, and we had to indefinitely postpone the On Board gallery showing. We continue to grow and did some amazing work on some of our organizational structures; we built a brand-new website and we started working on some of our core guiding principles of the organization our vision, values, and our mission. We worked with some incredible people and organizations like Opus Art Supplies, Sasha Daley, YWCA, Plea, Sources and Take a Hike. 2021 offers a lot of promise. We have built a beautiful new Art Hub studio and we are launching an online workshop series. We are also looking for more Youth Collaborators and organizations to work with so please get in touch. - Stacey Dallyn Founder, Executive Director

our story

SO FAR Our Mission

Our VALUES

Our Mission is to provide youth access to Expressive Arts Therapy (EXA) to help build on their uniqueness, resiliency, selfconfidence and create a place of belonging through creative connection.

Respect We respect our clients, the process, each other and ourselves.

What is EXA?

Creativity We nurture creative expression and believe everyone has the potential to find joy through art.

Expressive Arts Therapy (EXA) is an interdisciplinary or “intermodal” form of art therapy. All the modalities of the senses may be involved and all the artistic disciplines can be drawn upon – music, dance, drama, visual art, writing, etc. Sessions are conducted in a judgement free environment and confidentiality protocols are strictly upheld.

Connection We believe in connecting youth to resources to help them navigate through life.

Collaboration We intentionally work with youth, community organizations, artists and other EXA therapists.

ON BOARD

objectives To reach out to as many youth as possible and provide high quality art kits and blank skate decks and conduct EXA workshops in person and via Zoom. To create a fundraising opportunity via an art show of some of the special guest boards. Now pushed to 2021 due to Covid.

Connections This project allowed us to connect to many youth and community supporters. Plea provided connection to their youth and we distributed 75 boards and art kits to their participants and offered group and one on one EXA sessions. The Skate Board Community Pro skateboards Sasha Daily kindly painted 6 boards and provided video content for us to share. Joe Buffalo Nation Skate and many skate shops provided decks and general support of the program. The Art Community Opus Art Supplies generously provided $1200 in art materials including new decks and art kits. The Weekenders painted a couple of boards. David Hawkswoth, Mark Brand and several other prominent Vancouverite's created boards.

JOURNALS

objectives To help youth and others learn how to journal write their stories and create in a way where their privacy is protected. Providing a safe space for them to explore their emotions and manage stress. Utilizing examples of artists like JeanMicheal Basquiat who did journaling in a creative language so personal thoughts are protected we are able to provide a safe space for expression.

Connections This project allowed us to connect to a variety of groups. We did so in person and via online EXA workshops. Take A Hike provided a connection to their youth and we distributed 20 journals and art kits to their participants and conducted group and one on one EXA sessions. YWCA 14 journaling kits were distributed via the Y's New Comer program. The Art Hub also conducted online workshops. Sources provided connection to youth living in care and The Art Hub provided Journiling kits and one on one online EXA sessions. The Art Community Opus Art Supplies generously provided deep discounts in art materials including new journals and art kits.

THe New

SPACE

THE ART HUB STUDIO We are so excited to announce the news regarding our new Art Hub studio! We have both a Zen room with plenty of light, plants and a water feature as well as a large studio space for creative explorations. We will be showing off the studio virtually via online workshops and sessions. We look forward to welcoming clients and supporters inside once the Covid 19 restrictions lift. Special thanks to all those that helped pull this space together. We hope it serves as a safe and inspiring place for many youth in the years to come.

1

2

Establish The Art Hub as a place for youth to be seen and heard.

Connect with more organizations that serve youth in our community.

We will continue to amplify the message of youth via our various channels and collaborations. Youth are at the core of The Art Hub's mission. We hope once the Covid restrictions are lifted we will be ready to at least double our service reach.

We have already made some incredible connections with major organizations in the city like Plea, Sources, YWCA and Take a Hike. We are looking to grow our network and work with more Art organizations and more not for profit organizations that serve to address mental health issues for youth.

3

4

Develop a mentorship program for youth.

Bring more support to The Art Hub by allowing more people to participate in EXA.

We have created a volunteer position called Youth Collaborator. We are reaching out to youth between ages of 18-24 who want to volunteer with The Art Hub and gain valuable insight to EXA and provide general support. We hope to have several Youth Collaborators in 2021.

In 2021 we are offering online workshops and webinars to everyone. These will be free by donation. All of our services are always 100% free for youth. We are hoping by immersing a wider reach of people in the EXA process we can gain more support for our core activities.
