Meet our members...

Hayes Armstrong

My name is Hayes Armstrong and this is my 4th year of 4-H. My calf this year is a Red Angus/Hereford cross named Rib-eye. He weighed in at an above average 741 pounds, so I have high expectations this year. Rib-eye might be a little bit of a pain to handle and lead around but I think things will turn out okay when show and sale comes around. We also feed him some of the best feed we can find so I imagine he’s going to taste pretty good when the time comes! Some of my other hobbies besides working with calves include playing football and baseball with the rest of my friends. My family and I kept my calf from last year so I can vouch that homegrown beef is some of the best you can buy. I look forward to seeing all of you this year!

Will Armstrong

Hello my name is William Armstrong but you all can call me Will. This is my second year in 4-H as a Junior. This year I named my steer Leo. Leo is a Red Angus/Hereford cross that is home grown from our own herd. He has been a little stubborn to halter brake but he is very kind to me while I comb him. His favorite spot is on top of his neck and shoulders. He will almost kneel down to allow me to get to that special spot. While I am not combing Leo, I like to play football and I hope to get back on the field this fall as I am looking forward to quarterbacking my football team to League Champion! The best part about 4-H is spending time raising and becoming friends with my steer project.

Chance Bartman

My name is Chance Bartman and I am an Intermediate member. This is my 3rd year in 4-H. I am originally from Hussar but now moved near Rockyford. My steer is a purebred Simmental and his name is Bacon. I got my steer from Rafter JL Ranches and he weighed 612 lbs. He was originally called Loaded Piston. He was the smallest but best formation out of his herd. A couple of things I like best about 4-H is the experience and a bit of money for getting/fixing my motorized toys. My other hobbies / interests are: Dirt biking, quadding and working on my truck. I was unable to participate last year but would like to thank 550 Feeders for buying my calf in 2019. I would also like to thank Desert Sales for buying the 2019 fundraiser calf which went for my dad’s memorial scholarship fund for future mechanics.

Kevin Coffin

Hello, my name is Kevin Coffin and this is my 2nd year in 4-H, I live in Dalum on a farm and ranch. I attend Greentree School in Drumheller and I am in Grade 5. This year my steer is a Angus cross and weighed in at 766 lbs. He is very kind and lets me walk him all around he really likes me combing him. I named him 2 fast 2 furious, but he’s not 2 fast or 2 furious. I like 4-H because I get to meet new people and I like how I can become friends with calves. You can also find me hiking and camping in the hills and coulees, riding many of my horses, biking, baseball, skiing, and pretty much anything outdoors. I’d like to thank Poulsen’s for purchasing my calf last year.

Sydney Edwards

My name is Sydney Edwards, I am a Senior and this is my last year. This will be my Ninth year in 4-H. I am from Hussar Alberta. Tucker is a Simmental steer that started out at 952 lbs. He is a big carcass steer that was very head strong and hard to train but eventually he came around. What I like best about 4-H is competing, for example the achievement day with conformation, showmanship, and grooming. Other hobbies include basketball, volleyball and many other sports. Thank you for Gregory Harriman and Associates for buying my steer last year.

Brody Hale

Hi I am Brody Hale from Dorothy Alberta. I am 14 years old and go to Wheatland Crossing School. This is my 6th year in the Hussar 4-H Club. This year my calf is a home-grown black angus calf that I call Duff. He weighed 644lbs in November 21st at weigh in. Duff has been a bit of a challenge this year. He is not a big fan of his halter or being lead around, or even me getting too close- but I am determined we will be friends yet! Duff is a nice, well-built compact calf and will finish well. Other activities that I enjoy in my spare time are rodeo, hockey, hunting ranching and fixing things. I want to say a big thank you to past buyers and that I appreciate their support.

Dexter Hale

Hi my name is Dexter Hale and I am from Dorothy, Alberta and this is my 9th and final year in 4-H. I am a grade 12 student from Wheatland Crossing School and will graduate this year. My calf is a home grown black Angus semi cross that weighed 660 lbs in November at Weigh in . I decided to call him Hugh. He is a perfect calf for my final year because he is calm and loves to be scratched. Hugh is always the first one to feed every day and I feel he is shaping up nicely and will finish quite well. I am confident he will double his initial weight. In my free time I like to play hockey, bronc ride, hunt, and hang out with my friends. I would like to say a huge “Thank You” to our clubs past buyers and look forward to our first ever online sale.

Jayna Hale

I am Jayna Hale from Dorothy, Alberta and I’m 16 years old. I’ve been taking part in 4-H for the past 7 years. This year I chose a home-grown black Angus steer. In November at weigh in Gilbert weighed 698 lbs. I think Gilbert will finish up nicely and be quite chunky come sale day. Gilbert has taken a little extra work to halter break this year but we’re making progress. He does love to be scratched on the head and by his tail. Some of my other interests are ringette, trick riding and hanging with my friends. I want all past buyers to know how much I appreciate their support for our club and I look forward to our first online sale.

Mary Sandum

My name is Mary Sandum and this is currently my 8th year in the Hussar 4-H Beef Club. I am a second-year senior which means that next year is sadly my last year in 4-H. My calf Buddy came from my aunt and uncle’s farm, Kaiser Charolais. He is a Black Angus and everyone laughed when I picked him out of their Charolais herd. At weigh-in he was 796 lbs. He is quite a calm and gentle calf, he can be fairly stubborn though. He is very reluctant to go through the chute. Buddy does not seem to enjoy being scratched on his stomach with the show stick. Other than 4-H some of my hobbies are playing ringette and spending quality time with my friends and family. Unfortunately, due to covid, I was not able to play ringette this year. A huge thank you to Indian Springs Land and Cattle for purchasing my steer last year.

Luke Sevcik

Hi my name is Luke Sevcik and I am a senior member in the Hussar 4-H multi club. This is my 4th year in 4-H and I am from Strathmore. This year my calf ’s name is Bernie and he is a black Simmental, and his starting weight was 705 pounds. Bernie is just your classic steer who likes to eat and be scratched. My favourite part about 4-H is all the stuff I get to learn about the cattle industry. Some other things I like to do when I’m not working on Bernie is taking my heifer to summer shows and going fly fishing out on the river. And lastly, I would like to thank Hanna Motor Products for buying my steer in our 2019 show and sale! And I hope I can see many of you log into this year’s sale!

Marika Sevcik

Hello, my name is Marika Sevcik. I am a junior in the club and this is my second year in 4-H and I am already loving it. My favourite parts are getting to work with animals, learning new things and getting to go outside and have lots of fun. My calf ’s name is Cosmo. When I first saw him (although it took some time for him to get used to me) I knew he was the one. Cosmo is a Simmental and he started out at 696 pounds. Aside from 4-H I am very passionate about sports like softball, ringette, volleyball, or any other sports you can think of. I would like to give a special thanks to the Hironaka and Lawson families for buying my steer last year.

Landon Schelske

Hello, my name is Landon Schelske and this is my 7th year in the Hussar 4-H Multi Club. I am a grade 10 student attending Bassano school. 4-H has brought me so many opportunities from bettering my public speaking skills to learning the responsibility of caring for an animal. My favorite part of 4-H is not only the skills you learn, but also the day to day chores of raising a market beef project. I am also very active in the junior show circuit attending as many female shows available in a year and then adding them to my growing purebred herd. My black Simmental/Angus steer named Bubbles weighed 674lbs back in November and I have enjoyed watching him progress through the 4-H year. I enjoy working on my junior show string, checking cattle, hunting, golfing and day to day chores around the ranch. Big thanks to S&H insulation and Rob Sutherland for purchasing my steer last year. I look forward to our first online sale this year and hope you can join us.

Jason Slemko

My name is Jason Slemko, and this is my seventh year in the Hussar 4-H Multi Club. I am a second year senior in the club, and attend Grade 11 at Wheatland Crossing School. I enjoy playing sports, board games and working on the farm. This year, my calf is a Black Simmental named Derrick, who weighed 650 pounds at weigh-in. He enjoys being scratched, and especially likes food. During this pandemic, I have had the chance to work with my steer more than usual, so hopefully he will enjoy the show as much as me! 4-H has taught me many things, but most noteworthy is the comradery that all the members share, in both our club, and with others, outside the club. It has also taught me how to build a trusting relationship with an animal, as well as excellent public speaking skills. I am excited to see the calves and the hard work that all the members have put in during these difficult times. Huge thanks to Kevin and Carey Taubert, and Russell and Kristin Fandry for purchasing my steer last year!

Fundraiser

Hussar 4-H Club is very excited to auction off this year’s Fundraiser steer to raise money for the Hussar Ag Society. This year, due to COVID-19, the Ag Society was not able to raise the money that they usually do, so It is a huge pleasure to be able to help this organization, as we normally host our Show and Sale in the Hussar Arena (operated by the Ag Society). Thank you to the Slemko Family for training and feeding the Fundraiser steer this year.
