Shaping the Future of Dentistry Together

We champion all kinds of diversity – diversity of background, thought, race, age, and gender

THE PURPOSE of the DCA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council is to promote and encourage diversity within all levels of the company so that we are better suited to drive change and organizational growth.

We believe in the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. A more diverse organization is one that better represents the consumers and patients we serve and better prepares us to evolve and change in the future as new opportunities (or threats) emerge. Without inclusion, we risk becoming an organization that is not open to new ideas and new people. Without diversity, we risk becoming insulated from the real world. Without equity, we risk lower employee satisfaction and productivity, higher turnover, a negative work environment, and potential damage to your company’s reputation. It can also lead to legal issues and missed opportunities for innovation and talent. We established the Council because we want all DCA team members (current and future) to feel welcomed and open to sharing their viewpoints for the betterment of the organization and communities we serve.

Message from the CEO

The Importance of DEI

AT DENTAL CARE ALLIANCE, our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is a fundamental part of who we are. As CEO, I am deeply invested in fostering an environment where every team member feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents. DEI is not just a moral imperative; it’s a strategic imperative that enhances our team’s engagement, drives positive outcomes in our offices, and enriches the patient experience.

u Building a Diverse, Inclusive Workforce

Our strength at DCA lies in our diversity. As I’ve traveled around the country during my first year here, I’ve personally witnessed a workforce that mirrors the diverse communities we serve. This means actively seeking out and welcoming team members from a variety of backgrounds, including different races, ethnicities, genders, ages, sexual orientations, and abilities. By embracing a wide range of experiences and viewpoints, we enhance our ability to innovate, solve problems creatively, and provide the highest quality care.

Inclusion is equally important. Creating a culture where everyone feels they belong is incredibly important to me

and involves continuous education and training to promote understanding and collaboration among our diverse team. An inclusive environment enables everyone on the DCA team (providers, office teams, and the folks in our Support Center) to bring their whole selves to work, which in turn drives both engagement, satisfaction, and positive business outcomes.

u Engaging Our Team

Engagement is crucial for any successful organization and a foundational element for us. At DCA, we know that when our team members feel included and valued, their engagement levels soar. Engaged team members are more motivated, productive, and committed to their work. They are also more likely to provide exceptional care to our patients, which is what’s most important for us as a health care organization. To achieve this, we actively involve our team in decision-making processes and seek their input on how we can improve. Whether that’s through traditional communications rhythms (Quarterly Partner Doctor and Monthly Office Manager calls) or in our conversations as we visit our practices, we celebrate the unique contributions of our team members and recognize their achievements, creating a supportive and motivating workplace. This sense of belonging and appreciation fosters a positive work environment where everyone can thrive.

u Enhancing the Patient Experience

Our commitment to DEI directly impacts the quality of care we provide every day in our 400+ practices. A diverse and inclusive team is better equipped to understand and meet the needs of our diverse patient population. Cultural competence is critical in healthcare, and our diverse workforce allows us to deliver personalized care that respects and responds to the cultural backgrounds and preferences of our patients. Moreover, diverse teams bring different perspectives to problem-solving, leading to more innovative and effective solutions. This is particularly important in the dynamic field of dentistry, where we constantly strive to improve our services and patient outcomes.

In conclusion, DEI is a cornerstone of Dental Care Alliance’s success. It drives team engagement, promotes a positive and inclusive workplace, enhances patient care, and enriches the overall patient experience. I am committed to continuing our journey towards greater diversity, equity, and inclusion, knowing that it will lead to a brighter future for our team and our patients. Together, we can shape the future of dentistry and promote a more inclusive, innovative, and successful DCA.

Newsweek Honors DCA

DENTAL CARE ALLIANCE is exceptionally proud to announce that our organization has been named on not one, but three prestigious ‘best of’ lists by Newsweek this year: America’s Greatest Workplaces for Job Starters 2024, America’s Greatest Workplaces for Mental Wellbeing 2024, America’s Best Workplaces for Parents & Families 2024!

These accolades underscore DCA’s commitment to fostering an exceptional work environment for dental health professionals embarking on their professional journeys; and one that prioritizes the mental health and wellbeing of its employees. Over the past year, building a strong community has been a key priority for our Council. We have launched numerous initiatives to celebrate our diversity and create a sense of belonging among our employees. From cultural awareness events and inclusion town halls, to “spirited” team-building activities, we are dedicated to fostering an culture where every ally feels seen and heard. These efforts are not just about compliance but about building genuine connections and understanding within our practices.

Our report highlights the significant progress we have made, including measurable outcomes and personal stories from our employees. These stories reflect the impact of our diversity initiatives on individual lives and careers, underscoring the importance of our work. We are proud of the achievements detailed in this report, but we are equally aware that our journey is far from over.

This vision is at the heart of our diversity efforts, driving us to cultivate an environment where innovation and collaboration can flourish.

As we look to 2025 and beyond, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. We will continue to innovate and expand our diversity efforts, always striving to create a more inclusive workplace. We recognize that diversity is a dynamic and ongoing process, one that requires continuous effort, reflection, and action. We have evolved in our maturity, beyond viewing DEI efforts as compliance and the “right thing”, to truly applying DEI as a priority in our practices and policies. In the coming year, our DEI will continue to be integrated into our policies, procedures, and practices.

We invite you to explore our annual report and see the results of our collective efforts. This is not just a reflection of the past year but our roadmap for the future here at DCA. And to our DEI Council, I would like to personally extend a special thank you to our Diversity Council Members, for your passion, commitment, and for using your time and talents to support this important work.

DEI Logo & DEI Branded Gear

THIS YEAR, WE took a significant step in showcasing DCA’s commitment to the values of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion program by creating the Council’s first logo. The logo was created to act as a visual representation of DCA’s dedication to fostering an inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated, and equitable opportunities are provided for all. It serves as a powerful symbol in unifying the workforce under the shared goals of DEI, promoting a sense of belonging and mutual respect.

We see our logo as not just an emblem, but a statement of intent and a beacon of our ethos and culture. And it is our hope that this logo will stand as a constant reminder of our DEI program’s presence and purpose, encouraging ongoing dialogue and awareness among employees.

In the logo design, each letter of “DCA” is adorned with a different arrangement of vibrant colorful lines. The array of colors represents the varying cultures, orientations, and backgrounds of the individuals who make up DCA. These multi-colored lines are then shown in specific formations to represent diversity, equity, and inclusion within each letter of “DCA.” Simple yet powerful, the DEI logo encapsulates and communicates the essence of our DEI efforts, contributing to a positive culture and a stronger brand identity.

To celebrate the new DEI logo, our Council members have found unique ways to showcase and incorporate the logo within their work. The Council has used the logo in their email signature lines, created DEI-branded swag items, added items to our SMILE Shop for employee purchase, and gifted DEI-branded items to employee participants in our DEI-sponsored Spirit Day.

The Future of Talent

An Important Crossroads Between DEI, People, & Technology

THE DENTAL INDUSTRY, like many other healthcare sectors, is undergoing significant transformation due to technological advancements and a heightened focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. As we look to the future, understanding the intersection of DEI with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the current demand for dental professionals becomes crucial. This article explores how DEI initiatives and technological innovations will shape the future talent landscape in dentistry, highlighting the roles of dentists, specialists, and hygienists.

u The Current Demand for Dental Professionals

The demand for dental professionals is experiencing a significant upsurge. Several factors contribute to this trend:

1. Aging Population: An increasing number of older adults require dental care, leading to higher demand for dentists and specialists.

2. Oral Health Awareness: There is growing awareness of the importance of oral health, contributing to more regular visits to dental professionals.

3. Expanded Services: Advances in dental technology and treatments have broadened the scope of services offered by dental professionals.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that employment of dentists will grow by 3% from 2020 to 2030, while employment of dental hygienists is expected to grow by 11% in the same period. These projections underscore the necessity for a robust and diverse dental workforce to meet the increasing demand.

u The Role of DEI in Shaping the Dental Workforce

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are becoming pivotal in the recruitment and retention of talent within the dental industry.

Here’s why DEI is essential:

1. Broader Perspectives: A diverse workforce brings a variety of perspectives, enhancing patient care through better understanding of different cultural and social backgrounds.

2. Improved Access: Increasing diversity among dental professionals can help improve access to care for underserved populations, addressing disparities in oral health outcomes.

3. Workplace Culture: A focus on DEI fosters an inclusive workplace culture, leading to higher job satisfaction and lower turnover rates.

u Technological Advancements & DEI

AI and other technological advancements are poised to revolutionize the dental industry, impacting DEI in several ways:

1. Bias Mitigation: AI can help reduce human biases in hiring by standardizing recruitment processes and focusing on skills and qualifications rather than demographic factors.

2. Training and Education: Technology enables more accessible training and continuous education for dental professionals, ensuring that individuals from diverse backgrounds can acquire the necessary skills.

3. Patient Care: AI-powered tools can assist in diagnosing and planning treatments, allowing dental professionals to focus more on patient interaction and culturally sensitive care.

u Impact of AI on Dental Practice

AI and related technologies are not only influencing DEI but also transforming dental practice:

1. Enhanced Diagnostics: AI algorithms can analyze dental images more accurately, aiding in early

detection of conditions such as cavities, gum disease, and oral cancers.

2. Personalized Treatment: AI can help develop personalized treatment plans based on individual patient data, improving outcomes and patient satisfaction.

3. Operational Efficiency: Automation of administrative tasks allows dental professionals to devote more time to patient care, increasing overall efficiency and reducing burnout.

u Preparing for the Future

To harness the benefits of AI and ensure DEI in the dental industry, several strategies can be adopted:

1. Inclusive Recruitment: Implementing unbiased recruitment practices to attract a diverse pool of candidates.

2. Continuous Education: Offering training programs focused on both technological skills and cultural competence.

3. Policy Development: Establishing policies that promote DEI and ethical use of AI in dental practices.

The future of the dental industry will be significantly influenced by the integration of DEI principles and technological advancements. As the demand for dental professionals continues to rise, a diverse and inclusive workforce will be essential to meeting the needs of a diverse patient population. By leveraging AI and other technologies, the dental industry can improve patient care, enhance operational efficiency, and create a more equitable and inclusive workplace. The interplay between DEI and technology promises to drive the dental industry towards a more innovative and socially responsible future.

u The Role of DEI Communication

Enhancing DEI Through Strategic Communication

Creating a Compelling Dialogue Where Everyone is Free to

Share & Learn

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION (DEI) have become critical pillars for modern, forward-thinking organizations, like ours, seeking to foster an inclusive and equitable environment. Effective communication and education are essential to advancing our DEI goals, ensuring that all members of our organization understand and embrace these principles. Here’s a look at how DCA has been focused on enhancing DEI through strategic communication and our robust educational initiatives in 2023 and 2024.

Effective DEI communication starts with each of us, and it involves more than just conveying policies; it’s about creating a compelling dialogue that resonates with every member of our organization. Clear, transparent, and consistent communication supports our organization in demystifying DEI concepts and dispelling misconceptions. Bringing us all closer together. We are striving to create and ensure open channels where our team members feel safe to express concerns, share experiences, and ask questions about all things.

To achieve this, we are working on the following as our focus for the Communication & Education Subcommittee:

• Regular Updates: Delivering consistent updates on DEI initiatives, progress, and success stories direct from our team members to keep the conversation alive and relevant.

• Inclusive Messaging: Using language and imagery that reflect the diverse backgrounds of our workforce. This includes avoiding jargon that may alienate or confuse those unfamiliar with DEI terminology.

• Feedback Mechanisms: Implementing surveys, focus groups, and other tools to gauge team member sentiments and gather input on our DEI efforts. This feedback will help to guide and inform future communications and actions.

u Developing DEI-Centric Conversations through Education

Lifelong education is a cornerstone of effective DEI strategy. DCA must provide our team members with the knowledge and tools they need to understand, get involved, and support our DEI efforts. Educational programming is evolving and comprehensive, addressing not only the “why” but also the “how” of DEI.

Key components of DEI education include:

• Training Workshops: Offering workshops that cover topics such as unconscious bias, cultural competency, and allyship. These sessions should be interactive and designed to engage participants in meaningful ways.

• Continuous Learning: DEI education shouldn’t be a onetime event. Implement ongoing learning opportunities, such as webinars, e-learning modules, and book clubs, to keep our team members informed and engaged.

• Leadership Development: Equipping leaders with specialized training to foster an inclusive culture. Leaders should model DEI behaviors and be prepared to address issues proactively.

u Measuring & Adapting DEI Efforts

Education is a cornerstone of effective DEI strategy. DCA must provide our team members with the knowledge and tools they need to understand, get involved, and support our DEI efforts. Educational programming will be comprehensive, addressing not only the “why” but also the “how” of DEI.

Key components of DEI education include:

• Assessing Impact: Evaluating the effectiveness of our DEI communications and educational programs through regular assessments. Looking for improvements in workplace culture, team member satisfaction, and diversity metrics.

• Adapting Strategies: Using the data gathered to refine and enhance our DEI initiatives. This might involve updating training materials, revising communication strategies, or introducing new educational content to make sure we are at the leading edge of DEI in dentistry!

u Fostering an Inclusive Environment

Ultimately, the goal of DEI communication and education is to create an environment where every individual feels valued and supported. This requires a commitment from all levels of the organization. Our leaders must champion DEI efforts and hold themselves accountable for progress. Our team members should be encouraged to participate actively in DEI initiatives and contribute to our inclusive culture.

Effective DEI communication and education are integral to fostering a truly inclusive workplace. By prioritizing clear communication, comprehensive education, ongoing evaluation, and a commitment to inclusivity, here at DCA we can continue to build upon our culture - where diversity is celebrated, equity is pursued, and inclusion is a natural part of every day. The journey towards a more inclusive workplace is ongoing, but with a thoughtful approach to DEI communication and education, we can make a lasting difference and meaningful strides towards achieving our DEI goals.

u Diversity

The presence of differences within a given setting, encompassing various dimensions such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, education, and cultural background.

u Equity

Fairness and justice in the way people are treated, ensuring that everyone has access to the same opportunities and resources, tailored to their specific needs and circumstances. Unlike equality, which provides everyone with the same resources or opportunities, equity focuses on adjusting support and policies to address individual disparities and promote fair outcomes for all.

u Inclusion

The practice of creating environments where all individuals feel valued, respected, and engaged, regardless of their differences. It involves actively fostering a culture where diverse perspectives are embraced, and everyone has the opportunity to contribute and participate fully.

Virtual Town Hall & DEI Training

IN ALIGNMENT with Global Diversity Month, Dental Care Alliance held our first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council Virtual Town Hall on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

We focused our time together on cultural understanding in healthcare: how DEI training can improve patient outcomes – featuring Steve Pemberton, renowned guest speaker, best-selling author, and former Chief Diversity Officer for Walgreens Boots Alliance, Workhuman, and MONSTER.

His best-selling memoir, A Chance in the World, recounts his triumphant life journey and drive to become a man of resilience, determination and vision. Now an upcoming major motion picture, A Chance in the World further amplifies Steve’s highly motivational messages: Believe in your dreams, rise above obstacles, create opportunities for others, and most of all, persevere. Unleashing Potential and Engaging with Our Allies

Building Momentum & Opportunities to Get Involved in 2024

THE TALENT MANAGEMENT Subcommittee achieved a significant milestone in 2023 by establishing the Young Doctor ERG (Employee Resource Group). Our inaugural Young Doctor meetup, held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, was a resounding success. The event surpassed our expectations in terms of turnout and participation, primarily attracting our cohort of young doctors. Additionally, we

facilitated connections between these young professionals and senior leaders within the company, fostering relationships that have endured beyond the initial meeting.

We are excited to build on this momentum with our next meeting in the third quarter of 2024. This upcoming event will feature a panel of four successful young doctors, all of whom have excelled in DCA’s Mentorship Program and are recognized as top performers. With 2-6 years of practice, these doctors will share invaluable insights on what it takes to thrive as a young dentist. We anticipate this meeting will generate the same level of enthusiasm and engagement as our first.

u In the coming year, we will launch DCA’s OM Mentorship Program.

This initiative will focus on pairing our high performing Office Managers with seasoned DCA mentors. These mentors are committed to cultivating exceptional leaders through a comprehensive development program that will enhance expertise, soft skills, and business acumen. This program aims to bridge gaps in opportunity and representation, offering personalized guidance and career development resources tailored to the unique challenges faced by office managers.

Through regular meetings, workshops, and networking events, mentors and mentees collaborate to build skills, confidence, and professionalism, ensuring that all participants are empowered to achieve their full potential. By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, the OM Mentorship Program not only enriches individual careers but also promotes a more positive and innovative organizational culture.

Exploring & Embracing Diverse Traditions

Celebrating Eid Al-Fitr, Women’s Equality Day, and Greek Orthodox Easter

u Eid al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan. With more than two billion Muslims around the world coming together to celebrate the ending of the beautiful month of Ramadan, the diversity of cultures and practices that make up the Muslim experience of Eid alFitr is something to treasure and appreciate.

Eid translates to “festival” or “feast” in Arabic. Eid marks the end of a fast or fasting period in Islam and is celebrated twice a year. The first Eid celebration is Eid al-Fitr, which lasts three days. The second Eid is Eid al-Adha, which spans four days.

Eid al-Fitr (“the feast of breaking the fast”) marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long fast for Muslims.

Eid al-Adha, translated to “feast of the sacrifice,” celebrates the end of Muslims’ annual pilgrimage to Mecca, also called the Hajj. The first day of Eid al-Fitr is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon marking the start of the month of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.

In 2024, Eid al-Fitr began the evening of Tuesday, April 9, and ended the evening of Wednesday, April 10.

Some Eid traditions include dressing up, snacking on some dates and heading to a mosque for special prayers just after dawn. Afterward, it’s recommended to take an alternative route home than the one you took to the mosque, with the idea of spreading joy and riches everywhere you go and to the most people possible.

Some families exchange gifts, and many Muslims give food to those in need. Amongst going to Eid prayers, giving to charity, and sharing in large meals to celebrate the end of Ramadan, many women in Pakistan will also apply mehndi, or henna, on their hands to mark celebrating Eid.

u Women’s Equality Day

At the behest of Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY), in 1971 and passed in 1973, the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.”

The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York.

The observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. Workplaces, libraries, organizations, and public facilities now participate with Women’s Equality Day programs, displays, video showings, or other activities.

u Greek Orthodox Easter

Greek Orthodox Easter is the conclusion of Greek Orthodox’s “Great Lent,” a strict 40-day period of fasting. Great Lent ends on Lazarus Saturday, which is when Orthodox Christians believe Jesus resurrected Lazarus from the dead. Greek Orthodox Easter, like other Easter celebrations, honors the resurrection of Jesus after his crucifixion.

Greek Easter and Orthodox Easter always fall between April 4 and May 8 each year - on Sunday, May 5 in 2024. This is because Orthodox believers’ religious holidays are dictated by the Julian calendar, not the Gregorian (secular) calendar that most other modern civilizations use. Additionally, according to the Bible, Jesus died and was resurrected after going to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. As a result, Many of the Easter traditions and symbols are the same as other Christian Easter celebrations, including church services, feasting and a preponderance of lilies. reek Orthodox believers always celebrate Easter after Passover ends.

While many Christian churches hold sunrise services on Easter Sunday, many Orthodox churches instead mark the resurrection with a midnight service, during which candles are lit and celebrants chant “Christos Anesti” (meaning “Christ is risen”).

Orthodox and Greek Orthodox feasts may be held immediately after midnight mass, though some save it for dinner on Sunday. These meals typically include red-dyed hardboiled eggs (to symbolize the blood of Christ) and lamb, the latter of which is considered a symbol of Christ in the Bible, as well as of sacrifices associated with Passover. Greek Easter dinners will also often feature Tsoureki, a traditional sweet Easter bread similar to the Italian variety, usually served with a red hardboiled egg inside.

DCA wishes all of our team members observing Greek Orthodox Easter a safe and joyful holiday! Χριστός ἀνέστη

(Christ is Risen!)

u Dr. Raymond Mascolo

On May 10, 2024, Dr. Raymond Mascolo was honored at the inaugural Hope for Heroes Gala, for supporting veterans in need in the New York metro area. The event was organized by General Needs and also honored Thomas Ronayne, Retired Director, Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency.

Based on data from a screening completed by the VA, currently in the United States, 1.5 million veterans live below the federal poverty level. Many are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, other forms of mental illness, or traumatic injuries that can make it extremely difficult for individuals to meet their own needs.

One particularly unmet need is for dentistry. New York University’s College of Dentistry reported that only 8 percent of veterans are eligible for dental benefits through the VA.

Dr. Raymond Mascolo has been practicing in East Northport since 1983, and is well-known in his community for his compassion, understanding, and commitment, in professional and personal life. A 1980 graduate of Georgetown, he competed for a general practice residency at Georgetown university hospital and was on the faculty at Georgetown dental school until moving back to New York.

Dr. Mascolo has received numerous awards for his many endeavors in community service, most notably The Ronald Reagan Club’s Gipper Award by the New York State Senate, which stated in a proclamation that he is a “caring, compassionate man who, in addition to his many other responsibilities, helps children with cancer, handicapped veterans, and families of soldiers killed in Iraq... contribute(s) his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and… has been honored many times by such organizations as the Police Benevolent Association, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Order of Sons of Italy, and Knights of Columbus…” Dr. Mascolo was also recognized in April during DCA’s Volunteer Month feature stories

Please join us in acknowledging the many ways in which Dr. Mascolo serves others, gives back, and makes a lasting difference in the lives of others - including this most recent award from General Needs.

General Needs has been helping local veterans for over 14 years. General Needs is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that helps veterans. We provide essential needs items such as socks, underwear, and t-shirts. We are dedicated to creating a better future for America’s veterans. u Dr. Gordon Chiu

Our Towncare Homestead office is very proud of Dr. Gordon Chiu DDS PA, our partner doctor who dedicates much of his free time to helping the less fortunate to obtain improvements in their dental health. Now he is in Africa on the Mercy Ship as a volunteer dentist. Kudos to our Dr. Chiu! Visit mercyships. org/getinvolved/ to learn more about Mercy Ships.

u Dr. Jo-Marie Maniwang & Tara Pannell

In 2014, Dr. Jo-Marie Maniwang teamed up with Tara Pannell and the VCU School of Dentistry for the Jamaica Project. After learning that children in Jamaica have no access to dental care, Dr. Maniwang and Tara Pannell have developed

a project known as the “Jamaica Sealant Project” over the past 10 years. They have raised enough funds to purchase portable dental units, chairs, and supplies, enabling a group of hygienists to visit schools throughout Jamaica. The team provides home care instructions to children and families, applies sealants to molars to reduce the risk of decay, and offers cleanings.

The goal of the project has been to improve the community’s knowledge of oral health care, helping them understand the connection between oral health and overall health, encouraging better nutrition habits, and fostering a lifelong commitment to oral health.

This project serves as a reminder to healthcare providers of their core mission: to care for people. Through their efforts, they have formed numerous relationships and made a lasting impact on the families of Jamaica. Their next trip is scheduled for January 2025, and they are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to return.

u HR & IT Support Teams

April is National Volunteering Month. To participate, the Human Resources Department put together a Food Drive held in the Support Center in Sarasota, Florida. HR partnered with Information Technology, another on-site department, to put together donations.

During the one-week drive, over 100 non-perishable food items were collected and brought to a local organization, All Faith’s Food Bank. We were incredibly excited to work alongside the Support Center to make a positive impact on our community.

Women’s Leadership Council

When Women Lead Together

AS WE REFLECT on our work over the last year, one of the moments I am humbled by and most proud of is taking the stage with my colleague, Shawna Eury, Division President for the South, and I took the stage as co-emcees of the 3rd Annual Women in DSO Conference. What an amazing fullcycle moment and experience that would catapult our

passion, vision, and energy to create our own women’s empowerment support within Dental Care Alliance.

The momentum and energy from just two days of programs fed our spirits and internal DEI imperatives; as a result, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of our Women’s Leadership Council, a pivotal initiative aimed at fostering an inclusive environment that supports and empowers women across all levels of our organization. The Women’s Leadership Council is dedicated to promoting professional growth, and leadership development, ensuring that every woman in our organization has the tools, resources, and opportunities to succeed.

The mission of our Women’s Leadership Council is to create a supportive network that empowers our women at all levels to achieve their fullest potential. We will cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace where women’s voices are heard, valued, and respected. We believe that by championing women’s leadership, we can drive innovation, enhance employee satisfaction, and contribute to the overall success of our organization.

u Key Objectives of Our Council

1. Mentoring and Coaching

Professionally developing members will have the opportunity to be thoughtfully paired with an established member of the Women’s Leadership Council, or a senior leader within DCA for a formal mentorship experience.

2. Education and Programming

The Women’s Leadership Council will sponsor and support both internal and external educational and growth experiences on myriad topics. Potential areas of programming may include training on public speaking and presentation skills, negotiating, interpersonal communication, leadership development, empathy and caring for diverse populations, and much more. We will also incorporate a book club or article “of the month” for consistent, on-demand development for our teams.

3. Personal and Professional Development

Members will be supported in setting and achieving developmental goals. Members will also take advantage of motivational inventories, skills assessments, and other resources to identify opportunities for personal and professional development to overcome barriers to success.

4. Networking

The Women’s Leadership Council will sponsor opportunities to help members network throughout the organization. These will include coffee chats, a membersonly Microsoft Teams channel to further network with fellow members, and unique access to the Women in DSO organization! And don’t forget about that book club I mentioned earlier!

5. Clinical Excellence

We will support initiatives as defined by board certification in clinicians’ areas of specialty, who have a tenure of demonstrating outstanding patient care, and an ability to communicate complex scientific concepts simply, but effectively. Our doctors are our customers. How can we support their development and drive the sharing and implementation of best practices to drive our competitive edge? We’ll work together to determine just that.

u Get Involved

All team members, regardless of gender, tenure, or position, to engage and get involved with DCA’s Women’s Leadership Council. Your participation and support are crucial to creating an inclusive and equitable workplace. Whether you are looking to mentor, seeking mentorship, or simply want to engage with your peers, there are numerous opportunities to contribute and benefit from this initiative.

The launch of our Women’s Leadership Council marks a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and supportive workplace. By empowering women, we not only enhance their personal and professional growth but also drive the overall success of our organization. Join us!

Women in DSO® Participation & Leadership

AS A PROUD, founding DSO group in overwhelming support of Women in DSO®, the official nonprofit organization supporting the empowerment and growth of women leaders in DSOs, Dental Care Alliance fully supports the equitable treatment of women and all individuals in our organization.

Dental Care Alliance takes part and actively participates within the Women in DSO platform for ongoing networking, professional mentorship, specialized education, and contributes to the rich resource network developed exclusively to recognize women leaders of the present and develop the future women leaders in dental service organizations.

Again in 2024, several women leaders participated in the Women in DSO emPower Conference and Erika Williams, Chief Talent Officer and Shawna Eury, Division Vice President, were co-emcees for the conference; Victoria Garcia, Chief Financial Officer served as a featured panelist on a key financial session; and Katie Schiller was nominated for the Clinical Excellence Award. Kelly Stillman, Vice President of Communications and Events was a featured speaker on an emPower Networking webinar and was named to the Global Alliance Committee for Women in DSO; and Shannon Chin, Learning Development Manager, was a featured panelist in mid-August to discuss “Investing in Your Future: Strategies to Elevate Your Skills & Invest in Your Success”.

We are tremendously proud to support this impactful organization and the continued development of the leaders across Dental Care Alliance.

Young Doctors ERG

Building a Community of Support: Increasing Engagement and Retention Amongst Providers

THE PURPOSE of the Dental Care Alliance Young Doctor group is to allow doctors to come together in one place as a community for the dissemination of information. The ERG also allows for an increased sense of belonging and although the Dental Care Alliance Young Doctors ERG, is an employee-led group, we work with all parts of our company to help you achieve your goals and help our company succeed.

u Employee Resource Group (ERG)

So, what is the Employee Resource Group you might be asking yourself? It will be an online repository for young doctors within the company to access and share information regarding procedures, CE opportunities and other events. It’s a great way to collaborate and share best practices across the company as there will be 100 young doctors to collaborate and share information with. There will be online live events and fun meetings set up by you and your peers if needed to share other necessary information.

This group is for doctors 30 years and younger, any doctors who are new to DCA, and comprises providers from across the entire organization.
