Ostrand Angus 24th Annual Production Sale

Page 1

TO OSTRAND ANGUS

We are excited to welcome you to our ranch south of Ansley, Nebraska for our 24th Annual Production Sale. Bull Sale time is truly one of our favorite “seasons.” We look forward to seeing our customers and friends, as well as meeting new customers and getting to know your operation. Our goal is to raise cattle that work for you and will make your ranch more profitable.

Our sale offering this year consists of 150 December, January, and a few February born yearling bulls. These are the ‘cowboy kind’ of bulls. The bulls have been developed on a high roughage ration diet aimed for steady gain to maintain soundness and longevity for years’ worth of genetic investment into your herd. Their power and superior growth will prove them to be winners on your ranch. We must not forget the docility on these boys too. Also, we are offering 60 fancy yearling heifers representing the maternal foundation of Ostrand Angus. The cattle in this sale continue to represent our devoted and consistent interest to the commercial cattleman.

NEW SALE SITE! We are also excited to welcome you back to our ranch, BUT to our ranch headquarters this year! It is just three miles to the west of our barn, where have hosted our production sale for the past four years. With our calving season in the coldest months of the year, we decided the time finally had come to build a calving barn, which allowed us a warmer-more planned out space to host all of you for our production sale. We are also in the same yard where the bulls and heifers are developed. We think they will like being able to “stay home” on sale day now.

We have compiled a complete list of performance data in our catalog to assist you in your selection process. Each animal in this offering has been DNA tested with the Angus GS test and parentage verified. This year’s sale offers a strong set of deep bodied bulls packed with performance. These bulls have gained an average of 4.52 lbs./day, posting an average ADJ 365-day weight of 1386 pounds. The average adjusted weaning weight came in at 760 lbs., with the average WW EPD at +84, ranking in the top 10% of the Angus Breed.

THANK YOU for investing and supporting our family as we host our 24th Production Sale! The angus industry is top notch, and we feel blessed to continue to raise high quality angus cattle. We are available if you have questions or would like to view the bulls/heifers prior to February 19th. We always enjoy hearing from our customers. We are here to serve your bull battery needs. We realize that you have numerous options to purchase registered Angus cattle, but we truly appreciate your interest in Ostrand Angus genetics.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday February 19th. Come early for a hot lunch and stay for a bowl of homemade ice cream. Our sale will also be broadcasted on DVAuction if you are unable to join us in person. See you at our ranch, Ostrand Angus Ranch.

This past year our herd became a Maternal Plus Herd. Maternal Plus is a program that will help us improve our herd by tracking additional reproductive data and provide tools to make decisions about which cows to keep and breed. It also provides more accurate Heifer Pregnancy EPD’s. Maternal performance, productivity, and longevity are crucial here at Ostrand Angus.

Heifers

This year we have hand-picked 60 fancy registered yearling angus heifers to bring to you on this production sale. As a result of calving out the highest number of cows to date, we had more top-quality heifers to choose from. In turn, we want to share our genetics with our customers. These girls come from the maternal foundation of our herd. The heifers selling are a cross selection of the same sire groups in this bull sale. We have developed these heifers as if we were going to keep and breed them ourselves in mid-March. The heifers have also been AngusGS tested, verifying their parentage and increasing epd accuracy. At sale time these heifers will weigh, on average, around 960 lbs. Thank you for taking time to evaluate this top group of registered open yearling heifers.
