MARKER LAYERING WEEK 1

Render different tone and color combinations and observe how layering marker strokes react to one another. Let the paper come through at times.

CUBES WEEK 2

Render three cubes and their backgrounds in 2 point perspective. Delineate the horizon line and vanishing points. Compose each pair in different positions above or below the horizon line and to the left or right of center of the picture plane.

SIMPLE SPACES WEEK 3

Render one and two point perspective studies. Shift the horizon line up and down and vanishing points right and left. Show variety and style in stroke + line weight.

SIMPLE SPACES WEEK 4

Work to achieve perspective forms or voids and overall shadow believability. Work toward a harmony between marker stroke and pen lines using various hatch techniques.

PASSAGE REVISITED WEEK 5

Revisit your understanding of interior concept of passage. Consider color harmonies and sensitively address line weights and styles, hatch and tone.

DIAGRAMMING WEEK 6

Tell a story that speaks to an aspect of Blacksburg that characterizes it’s identity or your experience. Using diagramming language.

MATERIALS WEEK 7

Render two sets of material simulations: 2 woods, 2 marbles, 1 metal, and 1 glass. Strive for material believability. Show material depth, detail, color, contrast.

FURNITURE WEEK 8

Draw and render furniture. Refer to pictorial resources from print or from web. Use a variety of line widths, styles, and hatching to build your furniture forms and portray materials in a believable manner.

ROOM VIGNETTE WEEK 9

Looking at a photograph of an interior, accurately portray the variety of elements you see in perspective; materials, colors, light, and shadow.

ALTERED STATES WEEK 10

Render an interior or architectural scene from an unfamiliar or unique vantage point. Frame your drawing showing space, shape, + compositional elements.

SPACIAL NARRATIVES WEEK 11 + 12

Develop a two-point perspective rendering that illustrates the overarching concept of ‘interiority.’ Render material.
