To me, good design is timeless. Timeless design is sustainable, and sustainable design addresses more than just the environment. It addresses the humans inhabiting the space, how the space can affect their health, and how they utilize all aspects of it. This idea is something I strive to incorporate into and drive my designs.

Cleveland Clinic
Proposed Pediatric Design [Collaborative Project by Kelsey McDonough & Emily Ober]
Proposed solution to the redesigning of the pediatric wing of Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland. Design included the use of colored LED lights to create a long term solution for incorporating color into a space that is ever changing. Back lit acrylic panels on a multi colored LED strip provides the ability to change the color of key focal points of the space. The main goal behind the design is to do minimal changes to the pre-existing space, while incorporating the ability to make patients feel more at home. By providing the patients the abilityto choose one of the characteristics of their room, such as color, they may feel more welcomed and at ease in an unfamiliar place.

The Car Condominium Project was a collaborative design project with Club Motor Estates of Cleveland, Ohio. The programing required all garages to house a minimum of two cars and include a mezzanine upper level. The type of car collector that would be using the space was a determining factor on how the space would be designed.

Next Coworking Project was a Design Competition that utilized a pre-existing space in downtown Atlanta along with Steelcase furniture. The project programing included a set amount of work spaces that were tailored to each individual’s work style. My concept for the space was influenced by the efficiency and joint effort of cyclists in a peloton.

One of the key functions of my design process is to develop the space through hand sketches and diagrams along with doing extensive research that relates back to the project programing. By doing this I develop a better understanding of the built space, the programing and client needs, and often can push my designs to places they would not get to by using 3D rendering programs.
This project was heavily driven by the concept of a cycling Peloton along with the ergonomic properties of professional road bikes

The Concept:
The idea of taking something as simple and down to earth as a farmers market and making it a trendy “IT” spot was a key driver in the bar and overal concept for the space.

The CUDC House Renovation took place at a site located in the St. Clair Region of Cleveland Ohio. The goal of the project was to renovate an existing home suitable for a young family or couple. As designers we were encouraged to use reclaimed materials to keep costs down, along with utilizing the existing building structure.
