I first got into the construction industry as a Trainee Buyer. After a year I gained a greater insight into the construction industry and decided to pursue a career as a Quantity Surveyor as I liked spending time on-site and working within a wider project team.

I completed a ‘Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship BSc (Hons)’ at Nottingham Trent University.

This was a five-year course followed by professional development via the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence leading to membership of the Royal Institute of the Charted Surveyors (RICS).

I think an apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity for anyone to learn valuable skills whilst gaining a qualification.

Completing this route in contrast to a graduate route has definitely fastforwarded my career and enabled me to reach my goals quicker.

Furthermore, completing an apprenticeship provides you with invaluable experience which can be transferred to many other sectors and job roles.
