The Facade is inspired by the Kenyan Flag Shield, Spears, Colours and the Al bahar (bahar meaning Sea) Towers facade.

The Black Piece is designed to be a solar panel around the entire building.

The shading screen of the towers, controlled by computer, operates as a curtain-wall, positioned two metres from the exterior façade of the buildings in an independent frame. Each triangle is covered in micro-perforated glass fibre and programmed to respond to the movement of the sun in order to reduce the solar gain and glare.

Junior and Senior Secondary School

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION

The Ministry of Education in 2017 assigned a task to he Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to incorporate he new Competency-Based Curriculum (C.B.C) in schools. The Institute already launched the C.B.C. All government and private institutions with the current education system (8,4,4) will be expected to adjust to the new system by changing their approach to learning methods. A change in how these spaces will be articulated will influence the success of C.B.C. Competency-Based Education is defined as “the transformation of K-12 education policy and practice to advance powerful, personalized, learner-centered experiences through competency-based, blended and online learning” (INACOL, 2011)

SITE JUSTIFICATION

The facility is more than 600 meters away from any other existing institution within the region. The neighboring schools such as Nairobi East Secondary school has very congested classrooms that require to be decongested by introducing new schools. The current location contains enough space for implementation of the new addittion that the curriculum based competency requires.
