It is with great excitement, and maybe a little nervousness that we have decided to stretch our wings into the big world of online bull sales. Welcome to our first ever Avelyn Angus Online Bull Sale! When starting in the purebred business in 2005 we were told many times, “focus on breeding and improving the females in your herd and the bulls will come”, and we took that to heart. After 15 years of breeding, ai’ing, and flushing our best cows combined with marketing through private treaty sales, we have gotten to the point where our bull calf crop has to be shared with like minded cattlemn on a larger scale. It is time to have a bull sale! Our females are bred for functionality, udder quality, feet, legs and longevity of the mother cow. We have developed the sons and brothers of the base herd to the point where we are extremely proud to show you them. We think our bull pen this year is exceptional! We did a lot of showing and promotion through the years but this last year was definitely one of the busiest we have ever experienced. We had some great highs at Farmfair International in Edmonton as well as Stockade Round Up at Lloydminster, but the best part about it was the comments and encouragement from our cattle friends and peers! Mark Holowaychuk and his staff from OBI have been awesome to work with and are willing to assist you in any way possible. Sight unseen purchase We are here to sell you the right bull for your program. We believe you need to see for yourself the animals we have on display. However, if you cannot make it to view the animals before sale time. Please contact any of the above sale day numbers and we will find an animal that fits your needs and budget to the best of our ability, all info is kept confidential. Fertility All bulls are semen tested and the scrotal measurements taken before sale day by a certified veterinarian and will be provided on sale day. Any bulls who are decision deffered will be noted and presented up front before sale time. Terms of sale Cash or cheques are in Canadian Dollars and all invoices must be settled before delivery of animal is made unless prior arrangements are made. All bulls sold under the Canadian Angus Association standard terms and conditions. In all cases the seller is not responsible for more than what the animal sold for. Delivery We are offering free delivery within 300 km of farm, over 300 km an arrangement will be made. We will hold the animals free of charge until April 15th after such date the amount of 3.00/day will be charged until delivery or pick up is made. Any animals staying at Avelyn Angus must be insured. If you pick up your animal within a week of sale day, we are offering $100 dollar refund of your animal purchased.

HERD HEALTH PRACTICES

We know our purebred and commercial herds are exposed to a variety of obstacles from day one in their lives and onto their final chapter. To ensure that we are providing the best care possible we work very closely with the excellent staff at Central Veterinary Clinic in Ponoka. Our main vet is Dr. Kelly Loree. Following Dr. Kelly’s advice and instruction we follow a strict vaccination protocol. Our calves are vaccinated with Pyramid 5 with Response and Vision 8 in early June and boosted again at weaning in early fall. Our breeding age heifers are boosted pre breeding in early March with those same two vaccines Pyramid 5 with Response and Vision 8. Our cow herd is boosted pre breeding with Express 5 and Vision 8 again each year. All cows and bulls are Ivomeced in November and we recently began using pour on’s such as Boss and Lice Away for better control of lice. It is becoming more and more evident that feedlot buyers are looking for assurances that your cattle are vaccinated properly. It is very evident that the feedlot death loss rates are higher in calves not vaccinated properly and feedlot managers are instructing buyers to buy accordingly. Knowing this we religiously practice these polices to gain every advantage possible come sale day at the auction mart.

The bull feeding program is built to maximize forage utilization and gut health; they are developed on grass with their moms on a strict mineral program. All the forages are sampled and analyzed to ensure quality forages are used. Once the calves are weaned, they are slowly moved onto a balanced TMR. The bulls are challenged with a forage-based TMR to help them develop and express their genetic potential. Matching suitable protein sources with proper starch is key to promoting

Musgrave Sky High 1535 was the leadoff and high selling bull at the Musgrave Angus Bull sale in 2016. From the ground up he strikes you as unique individual combining performance, stoutness, width and natural muscling with a deep forerib, phenotype and eye appeal. He is structurally sound with amazing foot quality. He has met and exceeded the expectations of the industry and now his progeny continue to shine and excel from the show and sale rings to ranches and on to the feed lots. Here is a bull we kept a share in and ended up using quite extensively. His dam is a top producing Young Dale Xcaliber 32X daughter that we think very highly of. We never had a lot of female progeny out of this family but if we did we kept them in high regard. This guy is a calving ease specialist. Big topped with an amazingly deep quarter. His sire is the legendary Musgrave Sky High 1535 that we have come to really appreciate for his phenotype and productivity. MJT Crossfire 627E was selected out of the MJT Back to Basics Bull Sale back in 2019. We owned a half interest in him with MJT. Unfortunately we lost him to injury in the summer of 2021. This was a bull that had an amazing presence about him. All power, huge boned and big feet under him. He had an amazing phenotype to him. Full of red meat. He caught your eye every time you drove down past his pasture. His first daughters are calving here in 2022 and we are excited cause boy are they cool.

Everblack Vision 134E chosen out of the Everblack Bull Sale in 2019. An amazing grandson of Vision Unanimous 141B, he was chosen for the strong maternal side of the genetics in his pedigree. His large scrotal, deep quarter and easy handling character made him a great herdsire for us. His mother had a perfectly balanced udder that we saw touring the pens with Jordan previous to the sale. He calves like a dream and then his calves turned up the heat as they pasture in summer. Many first calving daughters coming into calve this calving season and we can’t wait to see how they turn out.

1.Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS FarmGate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. 2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity. 3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. This bull has been nothing short of impressive for us this year. He was the star bull in our show string this past fall and throughout the year continued to impress and gain nothing but followers and interest. He was the senior bull calf champion at Farmfair International, he was one half of the Reserve All Breeds Pen of Bulls at Farmfair International and we are proud to say he made the Top 5 Canadian Angus Show Bull calves for the 2021 year. He has everything you would want in a bull for commercial and purebred herds alike; clean shoulder, thick boned legs and a explosive rear quarter. His mother is one of the truly special cows in our herd, the great 172W, who has produced nothing but top quality offspring in our herd. Not one of her daughters have left the farm and it is a fact we are proud of. He is sired by the amazing Musgrave Sky High, who has done nothing but create strong cattle across north America. The second half of the bull calves we showed in the 2021 season, shared the Reserve Overall Champion All Breed Pen of Bull at Farmfair International and was Reserve Sr. Champion Black Angus Bull Calf. Just like his halfbrother 72J, he was sired by the great Musgrave Sky High bull. On his dam side a cow that we couldn’t be prouder of as she is one of the top grossing mothers in the herd. She goes back to the HF Kodiak sire, one of the most impressive sires in Canada in the late 2000’s. This guy has frame that stretches like a freight train and muscle that fits that frame perfectly! He packs a smooth shoulder and a rear quarter that will make anyone stop and stare. A bull that we here at Avelyn truly love and are so proud to be sending off to an operation knowing what he is capable of producing. Avelyn Angus is retaining an in herd use semen interest.

70J hails from the highly productive donor dam 707W. She is a sought-after cow in our herd. He is thick with lots of round muscle and top and is always catching the eye of anyone who walks through the bull pen. He is a moderate framed Crossfire son. From the heart of our commercial program we are offering two lots of 4 replacement heifers, these are a very consistent group of heifers sired by Avelyn Fortune 872’18. Our commercial cows start calving March 1, they do a fantastic job on their calves. The cows are a mix of Commercial Angus and Simmental/ Angus crosses. They have excellent udders and represent what we have done with our purebreds quite well. The sire of these calves comes from an amazing family that we treasure dearly here at Avelyn Angus, they will make as good of a set of future mothers as anyone could wish for! The heifers will be palpated prior to sale day, they have been vaccinated and boosted in 2021 with: Pyramid 5 and Vision 8, lvomeced in November 2021 and treated twice with Boss Pour On in early 2022 to ensure no contamination issues to their new herd.
