HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DLMS FARM GATE TIMED AUCTION WITH EXTENDED BIDDING:
1.Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction site at www.farmgatetimedauctions. ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.
2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.
3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.
4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In Most cases the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time the computer will declare the sale finished.
5. Following the sale the Owner or Sale Manager will invoice all buyers in the sale, please contact the seller with questions or to arrange delivery, pick up or shipping of your purchases.
FAQ:
WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE?
Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.
HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK?
When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 minutes on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.
Homestead Angus Welcome
Another year has come and gone, and we find ourselves in our eleventh year of selling purebred black angus bull calves. This is our fourth DLMS Farmgate Auction after seven years of private treaty bull sales. We have been growing and developing our program over the past eleven years, and we are proud of where we are at. There is always so much more to learn and do, and we continue to work towards our future goals for the growth of Homestead Angus.
With the warmer start to the winter, the bulls have just now really started to hit their stride. We will continue to develop them following the sale so they are ready when you are. We are proud of these good footed, good minded, masculine bulls we are presenting to you for your appraisal. We have carefully selected these bulls out of our calf crop. We have studied them throughout the year, judging them on not only their performance but also their structure and temperament. Any bull that did not prove good performance or cope well with being moved around, handled, pictured, etc. simply does not make the cut. We know the dams of these bulls well and have seen the same strong traits year after year in their calves, which means we can be confident that you will be happy with your selection from our pen. We have continued to use embryo transplants in our program, which is adding great females to our herd and we are excited to be offering a couple of embryo bulls in our sale this year.
This long-term drought continues to affect our operation and create challenges. We were thrilled with how great the bull calves still looked at weaning even though our pastures don’t have much more to offer. This is a real testament to the quality of our mother cows who still put all their effort into raising great calves. We were not able to harvest any sileage this past season but sourced alternate feed and worked with Bullseye to grow the bulls over the winter into animals that are ready to go to work for you.
Despite the drought, we are encouraged that the cattle market is on the upswing and the producers are finally getting the value they deserve for their calves. We do believe in the future of the cattle market, and we remain hopeful for lush grass for grazing and full crops to fill the stack yards, bins and pit.
Over the years, Calvin and I have each juggled a couple of day jobs, parenting, volunteering, the commercial herd, and our growing purebred program. Our operation, and those putting in the daily work, has evolved as the kids are growing up and pursuing their own dreams and education. We are so grateful to have the team that we do and to be able to work with our kids and extended family that always show up for us and lend a hand. We also appreciate the opportunity to work alongside Darcy Elliott for the Open House and Farmgate Auction each year. He is enjoyable and easy to have around and is always happy to talk cows and bloodlines!
Another partner in the successful development of our bulls, as well as the daily maintenance of the cow herd, is Bullseye Feeds. Brayden is a pleasure to work with and Bullseye’s guidance has ensured that our bulls have seen the growth and development we desire, yet maintain the functionality and longevity that we value most. At the time of writing this we have calves hitting the ground and the cows and newborns are healthy and independent, thanks to overall good health.
We invite you to stop by for coffee anytime for a visit and to see the bulls. And please join us for some Homestead hospitality at our Open House Friday, April 12th anytime after 2:00 pm. We look forward to showing you the bulls.

Elliott Bros Welcome
Wow what a year it has been. I would first off like to thank Calvin & Haley Powell for all they do to bring this event together. These are hard working, salt of the earth people and getting to know them better these last four years has been an honour. Keldon, Dalton and Andi - thanks so much for all the hard work you’ve done in getting the bulls ready. They look great. We are offering a really good set of bulls this year, that come from a very maternal herd. Great disposition should come to mind when you enter the pen, backed by a good set of mama cows. Our focus is our mama cows, and the bulls are developed with longevity in mind. I would like to thank everyone who has shown interest in our program and if you are ever in the Brownfield/Coronation area stop in and have a look; we would love to show off our mamas.
Please feel free to call for more info.

Looking to add pounds this is your guy, he’s a embryo calf off a fairly new bull to Canada, Deadwood himself is a +7 for calving ease, he came a little big but a full sib of him was 82lbs. Combine with the lead off heifer (917G) I bought with the Kuebers in the North Perth dispersal he’s a meat machine, 917G herself is one of the biggest angus cow I’ve ever seen , with the market trend of beef prices rising a few extra pounds in the fall might be what you need, I’ve retain 2 full sibs heifers for our herd. 1 Animals must be scored prior to hoof trimming.
2 When there is variation among an animal’s feet, score the worst foot.
3 Score yearling bulls and heifers
• Bulls or heifers must be at least 320 days of age at scoring time
4 Older females can be scored following guidelines used when collecting mature weights.
(Note: Foot structure changes as animals age. Scores will be adjusted for age as part of the analysis. Scores should describe the animal as they are at the time of scoring, without consideration of age).
5 Large groups of 18-month or 2-year-old bulls can also be submitted, if available.
It is a pleasure to be working with the Powell family at Homestead Angus. The program has a great group of bulls on offer for the 2024 Bull Sale.
The bulls are developed on grass with their mothers, and then moved onto a balanced total mixed ration that promotes lean muscle growth. The bulls feeding program is built to maximize forage utilization and rumen health. Organic minerals are also used in the bulls total mixed ration to maximize the overall nutritional health and development. Rumen health is continuously being monitored during the bulls feeding period and is adjusted accordingly to meet environmental and seasonal challenges.
If you have any questions about the nutrition, please feel free to contact me.
Best of luck to the Powell Family
