Welcome to our 3rd sale and first as Biting the Border Bull sale.
It’s exciting for us to bring you a great set of bulls at an outstanding facility. This year sale brings many new changes as we are welcoming new sale partners Pure Country Stock Farms.
A little bit about us, we ranch about 30km from Macklin SK by Cactus lake just inside the Saskatchewan border. Lyle is on the farm full time & helps a couple neighbours in our down time. I work full time off the farm as a health care aide. Brill is in grade 5 at Macklin school. He loves the 4-H beef program and is an active member of the Senlac multiple 4-H club. Brill also takes weekly horse back riding lessons. Brill ventured into the red angus division last fall buying himself a bred heifer.
We are devoted to making bulls for our commercial cattle friends. Bulls that are easy calving but add pound’s & performance come weaning time. We started our purebred herd in 2015 with the purchase of females from MJT cattle Co, Pedersen Livestock & Standard Hill Livestock. We are not about numbers, quality comes first & for most. They must have good udders, feet, legs & overall performance or they get culled.
2022 was a busy year but great strides were made, we attended Stockade Round Up in Lloydminster and had a fantastic week. We won our first banner with LSB Kodiak 119K he was Grand champion Intermediate bull calf. Brill showed in both Junior Angus & Lloyd Ex show and did so well.
The herd is on a full herd health program through Border Vet Clinic. Also a nutrition program through Bullseye Nutrition. Our bulls are being fed chopped barley, silage oat bales & hay.
We hope to see you all sale day but if you can’t make it the bulls are ready to view any time on the farm and the sale will be online with DLMS.
We purchased this fella at the MJT sale for $22000 in 2019. Mick then decided to buy ½ to use in his spring program. His calving ease is second to none and he passes that to his offspring. He’s a easy doing big muscled, and balanced bull that adds pounds to his calves come weaning time. His daughters are outstanding mothers, with exceptional feet & udders.

This big fellas momma did a heck of a job on him. He’s a tanky little bull that could be used on heifers. These crossfire daughters have exceptional udders and milk hard.

This guy is smooth, long bodied bull with a great spring of rib. This cow family tends to have a shorter gestation. Very good footed bull. Lots of longevity in the Dark Duchess cow family.

A smooth made bull with lots of middle, full of muscle & long spined. The lady Birds have lots of vigour. .
It has been a pleasure working with the crew at L & S Livestock on their nutrition program. I hope you can see this impressive set of Angus bulls in person.
The bull feeding program is built to maximize forage utilization and gut health. All forages are sampled and analyzed to ensure quality feed sources are used. L & S Livestock’s bull development program begins with the use of a year-round mineral program both in the cowherd and in calves throughout the winter. The mineral program is tailored to the differing requirements and environmental conditions throughout the year. Organic minerals are used to ensure proper immune function and overall health. The bulls are fed a forage-based diet that includes the correct energy and protein levels to allow the bulls to reach their genetic potential. The focus is on gut health and allowing the bulls to have lean muscle growth. Rumen health is of upmost importance, which is why suitable protein sources and proper starch levels are fed to the bulls. Organic minerals are used both on the cow herd and sale bulls to ensure proper immune function and overall health.
If you have any questions about the nutrition program, feel free to reach out. Buy with confidence knowing the bulls have been developed on a balanced nutrition program.
Good luck on sale day.

Welcome to our first Biting the Border Bull Sale.
Welcome to our first Biting the Border Bull Sale. We’ve gotten to know Lyle & Sheann over the last couple of years and when they asked us to join them in having our own sale together we jumped at the opportunity. My family has been in the Angus breed for 50 years, and were heavily involved in the Alberta and Canadian Angus Associations through the 80’s and 90’s. With a herd of 200+ registered cows in those days, we showed extensively, exported genetics to the US and UK, and once upon a time, had a bull sale in this very auction barn. After many years of running a commercial herd, I got back into purebreds in 2018 with some strategic purchases from dispersals, and bulls from the Spady’s at Alliance, Miller Wilson Angus at Bashaw, and the Mcrae’s at Mar Mac Farms in Manitoba. Our focus these days on a limited land base is quality over quantity, striving for improvement with every mating, and every calf. We cull ruthlessly for feet and temperament, and are using AI and embryo transplants to improve our herd as quickly as possible.
The bulls were weaned last September-October onto our silage regrowth for 45 days. It was our first year feeding silage, and without a mixer wagon it was a learning curve to say the least. We fed silage in bunks, hay in feeders, and forked them a bit of greenfeed every day. We had to pour their grain mix onto their silage to get them going on it, but once they did they made up for lost time and gained really well over the winter. Our grain mix is roughly 1/3 each of barley, oats and peas, with a mineral pellet and molasses to control the dust. The bulls started at 3lbs/day in November and worked up to 10lbs/day by sale time, combined with free choice hay and bunk feeding a barley silage. We have to give our thanks to long time friend and nutritionist Barry Yaremcio from Yaremcio Ag Consulting, for help with rations, and Ryan and his crew at Ramsays in Coronation for mixing up what we need. A big thank you also to Dr. Meg at MJ’s Vet Services at Castor, and Dr. Ferrier and crew at Iron Creek Vet Clinic in Sedgewick.
Then there’s neighbors and family – what farm would function without them? We have fantastic neighbors who help us in many ways, and we appreciate them all. We rent my parents land and live side by side, and help each other on a daily basis. Andrea and I work off farm some times, so we’re truly blessed to have my parents keep an eye on things , even if it’s just to babysit the dogs. My 4 kids help when they can, between jobs, college or high school, and it’s greatly appreciated as well.
We are proud of our program, our cow herd, and this first sale offering of bulls that we’ll stand behind 100%. We love talking cows so please feel free to come by the farm any time for coffee or a beer, view the bulls, the sires and dams. Cheers,
Darcy Goodrich
DMM Bustard 14H
Buster was purchased from Miller Wilson Angus at Bashaw in 2021. He is a direct son of former Canadian Show Bull of the Year DMM International 54D, and the now famous Miller Wilson donor Essence 5C. Buster has all the best traits of his sire and dam, with length, thickness, muscle, growth, great hair and style to spare. Buster has shown that he is truly a foot improver, and I’ve rarely seen a bull stamp his progeny so clearly, and with a classic Angus head. We have five bulls out of Buster in the sale, who are all peas in a pod despite being January to March calves. The five Buster heifers in the replacement pen at home are also very consistent and will undoubtedly be foundation females in our expanding herd. This bull has all the pluses of a power bull, with the advantage of calving ease. Buster’s calves have had an average birth weight of +/- 80 lbs, with the heaviest being 90 lbs. Our second calf crop out of Buster is on the ground now and look great. With 5 sons in the sale, and all of his daughters in our replacement pen, you can buy him and be confident that he’s a proven herd bull.

A big growthy bull that, simply put, is a tank on four big hooves! His dam (9A) is the poster girl for our logo - a near perfect SAV Bismarck daughter purchased from the Johnson Livestock dispersal in Saskatchewan in 2020. She is deep, wide, easy
fleshing yet feminine; exemplifying the wedge-shaped phenotype that discerning breeders strive for. Her daughter from 2021 sold as a bred heifer to Crescent Creek Angus last fall, and then she gave us this big brute out of LD Grazer, a walking sire for Musgrave Angus in Illinois. When you analyze the pedigree of Grazer 5K, combining the Forever Lady and LD Blackcap cows, with Bismarck and Basin Payweight, you can easily see a herd bull prospect with the potential to throw powerful sons and highly productive daughters.

A direct son of the famous and now deceased SAV Rainfall and maternal brother to Lot 12K from the Jackie 11E cow. Rainfall is a sure fire calving ease bull that sires calves with plenty of growth, thickness and muscle. This guy, nicknamed Big Joe, who love pets and scratches, will do the same. Tremendous length, scrotal circumference and great feet, he’s a rugged breeding machine that will cover ground and get the job done.

An April calf from our 2021 season that was held over because we knew with time to grow he would be a dandy, and he surpassed our expectations. He has been the easiest fleshing bull we’ve raised to date, and less feed to gain means less dollars spent per pound of beef produced. From the Erica 843B cow, he’s a maternal brother to Lot 26K and to the dam of Lot 18K. His sire, Valleymere All Star, is a bull that we used from Travis and Halley Spady at Valleymere Angus at Alliance. All Star gave us some great bulls who have thickness and mass, as well as some perfect uddered angular heifers who have their first calves on the ground this year. This guy’s lineage is truly proven, top and bottom.
