When we decided to do the fundraiser heifer, we knew two things: they had to be good quality and from solid consistent cow families. Then the wheels kept turning and we thought heck why not do a red and black and offer choice so that’s what we did. Here they are Tippy and Taboo…winner gets their pick! Dutch Auction will decide the Winner.

The Taboo cow family started with Ter-Ron Taboo 53Z being bought as aheifer calf through the Get-a-Grip Bull & Female sale in 2013. The old girl53Z has been a zero-maintenance kind of cow that always breeds back earlyand always brings in a good calf come weaning time. She had a daughter byMission Nexus 1378 sell in the Northern Select 2017 edition to Heart of the Valley Farms. The dam to this heifer Taboo 53H would be a direct daughterof 53Z herself and Pie Specialist 430. 43K is a well-balanced heifer whostands on a very good foot that we are proud of. The sire Seneca 731C isn’tfresh genetics by any means but a bull we had admired from a far for a fewyears and finally hunted down some semen. These calves are flat out good…calving ease with a kick! They hit the ground running and don’t stop growing.Parent verified.
first ever Black Angus heifer was purchased through this very salein 2013 from Rusylvia so how fitting it is to bring a Tippy back to town. The grand dam Rusylvia Miss 3A has been a rock-solid producer with amouthwatering good udder. She raised a ripper of a Bravo 6313 heifer thisyear that we are happy to have in our keeper pen! The dam Tippy 3H is ablack red carrier daughter of Wilbar Elective 233E who did a great job on herfirst try. The sire Coleman Bravo 6313 had us captivated with his calves atthe inaugural U2 dispersal and we knew then we had to inject him into ourbreeding program. 03K was destined for our replacement pen but we wantedto dig deep for our donation so here she is…sweet made, full of hair andmaternal goodness. Parent verified.
OBI WELCOME
Once again it is my pleasure to invite you to the 44th Annual Northern Select Sale. Things in a year can change for the better and sure has for the cattle industry. Rain came at the right time for most and the cattle looked as good as ever.
This year again, the consignors have let me dig deep into their herds and you will be able to analyze them. When going to each operation I discuss game plans for this sale and the future of their marketing and promoting and then we sit and negotiate which animals will do that for each program. The positivity around the cattle industry has continued farm to farm this fall. It was so nice to travel this fall with everyone’s minds in better places. Commercial markets are staying very strong.
We will again be doing an Open House this year from Friday 2 PM to 5 PM where all can come to the CRE to evaluate the cattle and then can either bid online or call OBI or any of the consignors to help them with their selections.
I would like to thank again the club and all the supporters of this event last year; your commitment and loyalty in this sale is second to none. If myself or any member of the sale staff can assist you, please feel free to call us. See you in Camrose on the 19th.

Everblack Sankrista 2J is a sweetheart of a heifer. She is sharp fronted whilehaving a nice big rib to her. The Sankrista cow family is known to be moderatein frame and possess impeccable udder quality. We have two full sisters in theherd. One calved this spring and she is all we could hope for in a first calver witha tremendous udder. The other being a calf we just weaned who could very wellbe the best natural calf we have from our winter calving group. The sire of 2J isthe BAR-E-L Stamina bull. You never truly know a bulls worth until you have calvedsome daughters. We now have a large sample size and they are phenomenal, big ribbed, exceptional udders, very sound, and have enough power to add somepounds to your calf crop. We cannot say enough good about how the Staminabull has turned out. Note the exciting coupon as well that 2J is carrying. If youfollow the Coleman program in Montana you would know that Coleman Ace’sdam is Donna 439 who would be one of their very best donors.

TO VALLEY BLOSSOM BLASTER
Everblack Mary 70J comes from an old U cow who is still in production. Youknow fertility, udders, and feet are not an issue when they stick around thatlong. Her production notables are as follows: 3 daughters in our herd, 2daughters through our bull sale, one daughter to Russia, and 3 sons throughour bull sale. The Pacesetter cattle have longevity built in. Once again beingsired by the BAR-E-L Stamina bull, we could not could not be happier with hisoffspring, sons and daughters alike. Mary 70J is a stout made, big barreledheifer with a ton of hair. Also take note of the teat placement on these Staminadaughters, second to none. We put on lots of miles this spring to source aneasy calving bull which led us down to the Shortgrass Sale. The Blaster siregroup was extremely impressive from top to bottom, we were fortunately ableto purchase our pick from this sire group to service our sale heifers. ValleyBlossom Blaster X Mary 70J could be a pretty neat mating.

Pride 82J is a moderate sized, deep-ribbed heifer that still has that great Angus head and front end. She is a direct daughter of SAV Renown 3439. Her dam was purchased from Avelyn Angus and has been a great producer for us. Pride 82J herself had a WW Ratio of 105 and YW Ratio of 104. No doubt she will be a top cow in any herd. She is bred to Crescent Creek Scotchman 127H who in our opinion is phenotypically flawless with a nice smaller head and great feet with extra muscle to boot, a great heifer bull for us.

Syndicate semen is hard to get your hands on and an own daughter may be even harder. Her dam’s first calf is a herd sire at our good friends of Royal Rock Angus. is a female we think a lot of. You will love her for the amount of body and substance she has but ties that into a super clean and complete package. Her dam is in the makings to be one of the best angus females to date here at Rusylvia with her perfect udder and awesome set of feet and legs. Her sire Musgrave Stunner doesn’t need any introduction to the angus breed with being the sire of some of the top end cattle being sold. With her being bred to the great SAV final answer for a January calf will be nothing sort of great mating. This will be one to check out sale day!

Forever Lady cow family continues to be one of my best. They are easy doing females that simple flat produce! She is sired by HF Outlier 49G, top seller in the 2020 Hamilton Farms Bull Sale. He is the best breeding bull I have ever owned. He sires very strong topped, deep sided cattle with excellent feet. Her dam, 51Y has never missed, 10 for 10 in her lifetime. A few generations later and we have Missie 10J walkingour pastures, sired by a standout bull we used from Travis and Halley Spady,in Valleymere TTT All Star 49G. This is the only daughter of that bull wehave agreed to let go off the farm, but we feel she can be a foundation typefemale for anyone in any program. Her dam MCK Blackbird 1E is an extremely fertile cow, with one of my favorite udder structures in our herd. To say the Babe family has provided a foundational group of females that have beautiful udders and are fancy made would be an understatement. Last spring was our first calf crop from Pedersen Hollow Point 3H, and the combination between the Babe family, and the power from this bull, has us absolutely impressed. 055k is wide topped, deep ribbed, and has a fancy chiseled front end. Undoubtedly, this young female will go on to be a great addition to any herd.
GGRR
705K is truly a one of a kind. She is a long spined heifer with a lot of power that’s put together just right. Her temperament is also something to note, as she has been shown all fall by Matt and Kendra’s 5-year-old daughter, Wacey. She is sired by our home raised Musgrave Sky High son, Avelyn Fortune 872’18, who has proven to be quite the female maker and has made a significant impact on our herd. Her dam 705F was purchased from Garnier’s Dispersal and has made her mark as an great producer in our herd. This heifer would make a great junior project if your looking for a competivie quiet heifer.

Oh my, this is the sweetest heifer calf that needs to be one lucky junior’s show heifer. I probably should have kept her to show myself. Straight off pasture she was Division Champion at the Alberta Junior Angus Asso. show, “she floats across the ring, she’s going to be a fun one to show and is going to be a real contender as she grows”. Champion Intermediate heifer calf at Olds Fall Classic and she’s entered in Farmfair. This Brooking Firebrand 6068 heifer has got that explosive rib shape and belly swoop everyone is looking for. Combined with style, a moderate frame, an amazing disposition, and a great cow family behind her she is a great foundation heifer for anyone to admire and build with. Don’t forget about the junior incentive discount program and circle her number in your catalogs. Parent Verified. Maternal sister to Lot 18 in this year’s sale.
A female that will be functional in the pasture as well as in the ring. 19K is super big topped, bold sprung and extremely neat fronted. She has maternal written all over her with our Blackbird family being one of our most successful in production and longevity. Her mother Blackbird 2G is a powerhouse with added frame with plenty of base width and udder quality. 19K ranks high in docility and would make a great junior prospect! Wrapped up in one complete package of functionality make sure to check her out and add to your program with through a proven cow family.

The Enhance progeny have demonstrated that the phenotype and performance that their sire is noted for transmits on. The Enhance daughters retained from the 2021 calf crop all settled to their first service, so early indications are that the strong feminine phenotype demonstrated is backed up by early fertility. Here is a chance to acquire a uniquely bred female to add to your herd.

MCK Sally 10K was one that was hard for us to part with. While carrying lots of rib capacity, she does not give up her femininity. This stylish heifer is smooth fronted and, sweet tempered and as strong footed as they come. Her Sire PM Sting 3’20 has impressed us over and over with his calves and 10K is no exception to this. Strong maternal production continuously from her dam MCK Sally 6E. A cow who throws everything she has to the growth of her calves each year. She combines so much quality with her maternal look and structural integrity. Amber Ruby is a bred heifer that just stands out, who is hand bred to Code Red 6J, the junior herd sire at KC with breed leading EPDs. Her dam is a black-red carrier cow going back to KG Sure Shot 1061 and is extremely soft made, with an excellent udder and a captivating look. Being a second calver with a heifer as exceptional as 10J, she’ll find her way to the AI pen next spring. We are super excited about this bred heifer. She is dark red, wide based and deep ribbed. Her pedigree goes back to the first Red Angus female I purchased from Red Round Up in 2015, that started my herd. She is sired by an ET calf we raised and goes back to Red Ter-Ron Fully Loaded. She was naturally bred to Red Piro Benelli 006H who has been a great easy calving bull for us. We are super excited about this breeding and can’t wait to see how the calf follows in her footsteps. She is backed by Blair’s Reloaded 218Y and out of a home raised bull we call Example. Example is a son out of one of the best red cows we own 105Z. 105Z is one of those cows anyone can build a herd around. She is bred to a bull called Red Bear, this is the second time we have used Red Bear, we used him last year on our cows to make sure he was a true calving ease bull and man are we pretty happy with the outcome. You will see what our program has to offer down the road from the Red Bear sire groups. I am confident this bred heifer should have no problem with her first calving experience.

We liked this cross so much we bred her back the same way for 2023. The Sparkles cow family really truly is fool proof. If you’re a purple cow enthusiast, this is the calf for you. A unique outcross between Red Blood and a Topham Peterbilt purple cow. Just a March baby with tons of potential, deep bodied, long spined, and is extremely sound. Red Duff Red Blood has produced us some easy fleshing, powerful calves. Red Blood represents two prominent bulls in his pedigree, one being Ole Oscar and Red Rojas Rioja; bulls that have certainly made their mark in the Red Angus world. Her momma is no slump either and possibly one of the best black cows we’ve had walk our fields. This one’s a front pasture female with a lifetime ahead of her, its in her blood!

Red Cinder Mabel is super well balanced, has tons of middle and is just one tank of a female. Banknote is known to have sired calves with added power, and incredible foot structure. Paternal sibling Red Cinder Brylor Freyja 29J sold to Corbin Reid from Moorefeild, ON for $12,500. Mabel 214K is backed by a proven dam who has raised calves with tons of performance. Mabel 214K being one of them. Here’s the opportunity to get your hands on a calf that will undoubtedly make some crazy good herdsires.

SPRUCE VIEW OVERDRIVE
This calf has junior prospect written all over her, one that blew us away once she got some attention. Extremely clean in her lines, tons of extension, and not extreme in any way, this heifer needs a show halter. This female’s pedigree consists of none other than Soo Line Power Eye, and Pursuit 81W, and Banknote. Doesn’t get much better than that. With a grand dam like Red Cinder GLY Cheta Lassie 93S she won’t only have success in the show ring but will become a super cow down the road. Definite junior project that could hang some banners.

Lady Bate isn’t flashy in any way but here’s one that is going to make a superior cow. Her dam doesn’t look a day over 2 and has impeccable udder as a 10-year-old. A solid heifer that is haired up and soft made, just one that’s real easy on the eyes. Another Banknote, however, one of the few purple ones produced. 212K is destined to produce some highly maternal stock, and has tons of longevity in her future.

When Mark toured he was impressed with the MRLA Respect 42G sire group again this year. This young matron reminds us of the paternal sister he selected last year, very eye appealing and very complete. The passion cow family has been very productive for us, the great grandmother of 232K raised Red Redrich Aftershock the 2015 Alberta Supreme Bull. A great heifer from an outstanding cow family.

A phenotypically correct and sound heifer from the very good RSL Scenic Route sire and an impressive dam. We really like our Scenic Route daughters who have calving ease and are very maternal. 132B continues to raise the good ones, this is the third daughter that she has had selected for a sale. With the consistency on both sides of her pedigree, you can be confident that 133K will be a valuable female to add to your herd.

Here is the first daughter of the SVR Yogi and it is hard to share her. She is off the top of the very good sire group and from an impressive dam with a great production record. 188E has raised three sons who all sold very well in our bull sale and 187K is her first heifer calf. Take a close look, I know you will like this attractive, stout made heifer.

Can’t say enough about this good cow family at Poplar Grove!! 206K sire is Red Duralta 167 Select 34H whom was second highest selling bull that year at Duralta. He stands on a good foot, is a clean and correct made bull.

You have to appreciate the balance of power and femineity 103K holds. Your drawn in by her big presence but have to appreciate how structurally correct and smooth in her lines she is. Her dam is a stout young cow with a tidy udder; we are excited for what the future holds with her and have intentions to flush her! We have found the Red Blood calves to be strong footed, have calm dispositions and cherry red in color, this heifer certainly checks all those boxes. Praline is an excellent example of the quality we are working towards and we are thrilled to bring her to the Northern Select Sale!

This cow family holds a special spot for me. It stems from the original cows I purchased from my parents when I returned from university. The Barbie females have been tops producers, with stylish bulls and top replacement heifers. 111K sire, Perspective, has been used heavily in our program in the past few years. He possesses an excellent foot, calm demeanor and is super deep bodied. 111K is a fancy eye appealing heifer, soft made and smooth built. We believe she will follow in the footsteps of her dam and make a productive, reliable cow.

This heifer is a real eye catcher when out on pasture, she is a dark red feminine female. She is not only sired by Banknote but also goes back to Six Mile Game Face on her dam’s side. She has been an impressive heifer since hitting the ground. Her dam 55C is a long-bodied female with tons of capacity and this calf is following right in her footsteps. She is deep ribbed, attractive, and pretty fronted. If you’re into looking at EPD’s so far this girl checks the boxes. We are super excited to have this girl on offer.

Mrs Young comes from an Assassin daughter that we bought out of the Premier Red Roundup sale. The dam has not disappointed and either will 78K. One has to admire her sharp front end and how straight in her lines she is. 78K has been a dream to work with as our 4 year old daughter can lead her around. Mrs Young is a very sweet and eye appealing young heifer that I know someone will admire.
Rob Holowaychuk Memorial Fund

This is open to all Junior Members who purchase an animal at the 2022 Northern Select Sale. The winners will be notified by OBI Livestock Ltd. The sales credit will be awarded over and above any Junior incentives that the winners may be eligible to receive.
