Roughrider was a bull we picked out of the Rafter SJ herd up at Fort St. John. He had an impressive foot and shape to him. We were very dissapointed to find his testicles stepped and sliced late in the summer of his first breeding season. But he left us 3 heifers in the replacement pen in which 1 made it into our show string this fall and has an impressive rib shape and depth of body.

If you have come for a tour, seen us at shows, visited with us at any point in the last 2 years you would have heard the name ‘FRED’ dropped just a few times. ‘Fred” ticks all our boxes. Genetics that have been successful in many mainstay red angus herds. The names Networth, Eliminator, Razor, Capacity, Rebel, all on the front of the papers. A bull that checks the boxes of foot structure, Soundness, and length of body. This guy is everything plus more that we hoped he would be. The first ‘Fred’ daughters are now milking and every single one has dropped a gorgeous udder with well placed, small teats that are easy for the calves to find. His calves certainly follow the cow’s genetics. A BIG broody momma cow is going to give you a big calf that slams the scale down in the fall. A smaller frame finer built cow gives you a smaller calf that will still weigh up in the fall. We are not trying to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes. His numbers on CE are not great. BUT what counts are his build and all the calves coming out. The first year we used him with success on both heifers and cows, but as he grew he just got a little more so now just used on the cows. The Proof is in the pudding, and the pudding is standing outside in both the bull pen AND our replacement heifer pen.
