Metro dead in the water

Metro Dead In The Water The new Swiftbus corridor to link Swords to the city centre in 35 minutes, at a cost of €200m, will I believe leave the Metro Service firmly dead in the water. Forget the pre-election promises, or any others made since about keeping the Metro on track, it will not happen. I cannot envisage, given this Government’s previous history on promises, that they would spend €200m on a new bus corridor to later spend double that on building theMetro. It is purely a Metro burying exercise, and the Swifbus Corridor the carrot to seal the deal. The reality is, Swiftbus has been plucked out of a hat simply because it is the least expensive of the two options and not the best option. If this project goes ahead the Metro will be abandoned, promises or not. A lot of families with pre-school and school going children will be affected by the route planned for the Swiftbus. This bus corridor will cut straight through their green areas depriving residents of their precious recreational space. There is a shortage of safe green spaces in the Swords area, we should be making recreational green space more available not planning to take it away. I say, back to the drawing board, I say, leave our green spaces alone.. I would say the people of Swords, the Local Elections are just around the corner on May 23 rd. Put pressure on to stop this, make your vote count!
