NOTES ABOUT WORK Found! is a collection of gestures and conversations concerning notions of being both “lost” and “found.” This work came to be because of an out of town visit where I did not see my wife or infant daughter for an entire month. I have used this longing as a motivation in this piece; so much of my identity is found my role in my family. I present music monologues and dialogues pertaining to selfidentity, what we are and are not with or without loved ones, and what is meant by being home.
NOTES ABOUT THE COMPOSER Matthew Kennedy’s music contains disarming clarity and simplicity, often seeking out dark places with an uninhibited wonder and spirit of exploration. His work has received critical acclaim including honors and commissions from ASCAP, BMI, Opera on Tap, Boston Musica Viva, Hartford Opera Theater, bassist Robert Black, Dynamic Music Festival at NYU, as well as residencies at Crosshatch Center for Art and Ecology (MI), Marble House Project (VT), and the Mayapple Center for the Arts and Humanities (CT). Recent activities include performances and lecture presentations at Fresh Inc. Festival, New Music Gathering, Northwestern University New Music Conference, and the North American Saxophone Alliance International Conference. His music has been published by Parma Recordings and Ink&Coda Journal. He is currently on faculty at the University of South Florida. He and his wife, studio artist Erin Kennedy, currently reside in Tampa, FL with their three children at cats, Cali and Coopurr.
