This runs alongside our sponsorship of local clubs such as Kingswood Lawn Tennis Club and Tadworth Cricket Club, and we provide free space and opportunities to local businesses and organisations, all by way of giving a bit back to our community. The work we do with Kingswood Golf Club and our Annual Kennedys` Charity Golf Day at their amazing venue is also another good example of how we promote business and well-being for the greater good. We also made the decision to add a further dynamic to Signature by giving each edition a ‘theme’, and I couldn`t think of a better way of starting this off than focusing on Well-Being and Fitness. As someone who has been on something of a journey over the past 5 years, going from couch to two marathons in a fairly short period of time, I have some in-sight as to both the pains and gains of finding new levels of fitness and well-being. Running a business, not to mention supporting a family and dealing with the joys of ageing parents, are all stresses and pressures that have the ability to control your energy levels and overall mindset. Just as important is the well-being of my staff, and especially given the

extraordinary couple of years that we have all experienced. What we have discovered in the process of putting this edition together, is just how much help and support there is in the area and how high the overall quality is. If we can help just one person to improve their lifestyle by them reading this edition, then we will have considered it worthwhile producing. We have some great new stock coming to the market, and are continuing to see the benefits of our new branding and website. Our lettings team continues to get stronger and we are seeing the Kennedys’ brand starting to travel further afield, which is always rewarding to see, especially as we approach our 18th anniversary and given the competition in terms of choice and quality is as fierce as ever. My thanks to all the contributors and sponsors who have helped make this happen; I really hope you enjoy this special well-being edition of Signature, and by the time you are reading this we will have already made a start on our next edition. We strive to make Signature a unique magazine and give you a constantly changing and interesting read. As ever, Peter Founder & MD

#Support local business

LOCAL BUSINESSES S OMA I was introduced to ‘Soma’ and its two creators, Antonia and Mirella, by my friend Araceli, who had been going to their classes for a few months and encouraged me to join her one morning for a yoga class. Feeling totally unprepared, having not really done any proper exercise since before lockdown and also being a dabbler of such things - picking up new activities and then putting them down all too quickly, I was a little nervous.

‘As part of this edition featuring Heath & Well-being I decided to share my progress so far with an enterprising, local business focusing on just that! Soma Wellbeing. I am also delighted to give a ‘shout-out’ to another local business offering what they describe as an Urban Spa Day... and just on our doorstep!

K

Any nerves were soon squashed, as I was greeted with lovely warm smiles from everyone present and introduced to all the personalities that form the ‘Soma tribe’. Antonia and Mirella have created this fun, loving, hardworking space in which members can get fitter and feel better from the inside out, regardless of age, body-shape, size or skill set and the bonus is you get to meet really likeminded people along the way. These gorgeous women have created something quite special – the perfect marriage between group classes and having your own PT which we all know can be v pricey. An initial draw for me was the fact that their classes are predominantly at Kingswood Golf Club (KGC), which is not only really local but provides beautiful, clean, warm/cool welcoming rooms and the use of their fantastic outdoor spaces when the weather is kind. The Golf Club is hugely hospitable and the facilities are impressive and if you have time order a coffee in their new, sunny and spacious bar area or on the terrace with the most gorgeous views of the course! Win-win! Antonia and Mirella have different passions and skill sets but between them push their clients towards their own goals, meaning that after every class everyone leaves feeling 100 times better than when they walked in - and with a smile on their faces. There is a lot of laughter and no-one takes themselves too seriously, which in turn gives all who attend the space - courage to try and achieve things that perhaps they didn’t think they were capable of.

SOMA offers sessions on a per booking basis @ £15 each, block bookings or a monthly membership which includes pretty much everything. You can also pay for PT sessions and tailormade sessions to suit you.

I opted for the monthly membership at £75 per month which is incredible value as I do daily activities; yoga, sculpt, spinning, circuits and now ‘stride’, which has recently been added to get anyone interested, doing a short run to build up confidence and stamina.

The only class not at ‘KGC’ is spinning which takes place at Epsom College. I was genuinely terrified of spinning and being utterly useless at it, but I am now slightly addicted and absolutely love it - an opportunity to spend 45 minutes back on the dance floor but now on a bike, lots of water and no G&T! There are currently two classes a week and it gets your heart pumping to high paced dance tunes mixed in with a lot of laughter and ….. moaning!

I couldn’t recommend SOMA more; so if you are interested in joining and creating a new routine and some time for yourself to help with mind and body come and give it a try. They offer the package of exercise, breathing and nutrition.

Fitness and nutrition were always a passion for her, and she decided to use her gained knowledge running businesses and blend the service experience into what she felt was missing from the fitness industry, putting an emphasis on raising confidence and empowering her clients. She then started her PT business giving her clients the tailored and special approach she felt was necessary for them to reach their personal goals, using her trained and skilled certification in personal training and health science. She has placed 1st in various bodybuilding competitions and she aims to utilise these gained life skills in a holistic approach in her nutrition services.

MIRELLA has over 20 years’ experience in the luxury retail and beauty industry, having worked for Harvey Nichols and international fashion brands in London and NY. Having to fly to NY on a regular basis for work, her yoga practice helped her manage her fear of flying. Yoga was a side practice until it became apparent this helped her in all areas of life. She then certified for her 200hr teacher and anatomy training. Yoga anatomy is of real interest to her, and this shows in her classes. This is where she and Antonia met. Their friendship flourished and their support in each other's fitness and emotional wellbeing developed, especially in lockdown, their training and skills supported them. the key to success that can be forgotten about! It is not about restrictive diets or calorie counting, always wondering when your next food intake is. Fundamentally it is about the quality of what you eat. And providing the balance that your body needs. For example, in the real world you would not buy a nice car and put the wrong fuel in it, would you? It is the same with your body. In order for it to function correctly, and last longer, the fuel must be right. Nutrition is the key element to long term achievable and maintainable gains. Soma was born out of passion for the combination of all these elements. We can provide you with the exact support and knowledge that is required to achieve your amazing goal.

...Spa days fits perfectly into a busy lifestyle, being so accessible, just in Waterhouse Lane, Kingswood. Vanessa was extremely helpful in arranging our booking and on a beautiful sunny spring morning we arrived at our ‘Urban Spa Day’. Once changed into slippers and robes we were shown to the garden to relax on sunloungers. Someone would collect us for our treatments shortly. My friend, Vicky had a 45 minute Dermalogica facial and I had a mini facial and massage. The treatment rooms are lovely, very relaxing and the treatments themselves were excellent. Afterwards, we went for a dip in the beautifully warm and immaculate indoor pool which is open at one end with views over the fields and horses. Lunch followed. I opted for a Caesar salad whilst Vicky had a variety of sandwiches both of which were accompanied with an array of sweet treats. We spent the next couple of hours laying in the sun with magazines, listening to the water feature and the sound of the horses in the adjacent field.

‘I hope you don't mind me emailing you. I just wanted to let you know that Sarah, your Head of Lettings, has been absolutely fantastic with the house. She has kept us updated and communicated all of the changes or details to us as landlords really quickly and clearly. Whenever I have had a question, she has answered it really promptly and informatively. That level of communication makes a huge difference to both mum and I. She's taken time to explain everything and also has been very patient when there have been a lot of questions! If ever I have had follow up queries she has made sure that she answers or responds in some form rather than leaving this for another day. I know that you've probably gathered that this sort of communication is really important to us, and Sarah has really gone above and beyond to ensure we are kept updated. In her management of these tenancies, she has handled everything understandingly and is clearly very knowledgeable in her area. Anyway, that's the entire point of this email but I really wanted to highlight to you that she has been brilliant - and I didn't want that to go unmentioned’! Landlord, Ms B

CHILDREN'S ANIMAL PARTIES IN SURREY

After the success of last years Charity Golf Day in conjunction with Variety Golf, I am delighted to announce that we will be returning to the wonderful facilities at Kingswood Golf Club for this years event to be held on Wednesday 29th June. We are hoping to return to a shot gun start, with all teams going off at the same time, but further details will be confirmed closer to the event. For now, please save the date in your diary, and think about your teams. If you would like to register your team please contact us at info@kennedys-ipa.co.uk and we will send out an entry form to you. Please fill in and return it as soon as you can along with payment of £375 per team which includes coffee and rolls pre tee-off, green fees for 18 holes at Kingswood and a BBQ lunch on your return. We are hosting Variety Golf for the second year in the hope that we can raise the balance required to purchase a new Variety Golf minibus for a deserving local organisation. As was evident last year, they are excellent hosts who support their main events with great style, so we look forward to working with Sam and Jamie and their team, as well as welcoming a number of their celebrity supporters.

There will be the usual array of activities across the day, from nearest the pin and longest drive, to beat the pro and of course the raffle, auction and prizes for first 3 places. As ever, the day is only as successful as the involvement and support each teams allows. This year, we are looking for as many sponsors as possible, and always gratefully receive items for either the raffle or main auction. If you feel you can help on any level, please do let us know and your input will be very much appreciated. The 15th Kennedys Charity Golf Day promises to be as good as ever, and we always look to make improvements wherever and whenever we can. Together we will make this a great event again and we are already looking forward to being your host and enjoying the best day of the year with you all! If you wish to put a team in this year, please don’t forget to contact @kennedysipa or info@kennedys-ipa.co.uk or just give us a call on 01737 817718 and we will send you the registration form.

MARKETING In a market place that has an ever increasing number of agents and choices available to the consumer, it is important to have an identity. I don`t just mean a recognisable logo and some smart boards, I mean something that people can see and feel as a constant message and that is transferable across the whole spectrum of properties that exist in this area.

KENNEDYS’ IN KINGSWOOD It is no accident that Kingswood takes up a sizeable chunk of this edition, and it wasn’t even intentional; but I do think that inevitably it was going to happen.

It reflects the amount of involvement we have within the community, local people, local businesses, local activities and of course the homes you live in. And speaking of homes, I am delighted to use Signature as a way of updating you all on what we are currently selling and of course what we have recently sold, of which there is a healthy number and quality of both.

Our on-going commitment to Kingswood is as strong as ever, and it is thanks

to the growing number of you that we are increasing our presence and market

Kingswood Celebrates The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

King George VI died on 6th February 1952 and his daughter Elizabeth became queen of seven independent commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon. The coronation was held a year later on the 2nd June 1953. Kingswood is, with the entire nation, celebrating The Queen’s amazing 70 years on the throne over a double bank holiday weekend, marking the Jubilee from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June, when the Palace is asking communities throughout Britain to join together for a special Jubilee Lunch. Our Street Party will take place in Waterhouse Lane on Sunday 5th. We expect this to be an occasion to remember for many, many years to come. The Street Party and the Jubilee Exhibition will be the culmination of four days of celebrations in Kingswood. Each day, activities have been planned that will give us all the opportunity to meet new friends and neighbours, to find out more about the area in which we live, and to grow as a community. Some events have a small charge to cover costs and to allow us to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Unless otherwise mentioned below, all money raised will go to local charities: the NSPCC and The Children’s Trust at Tadworth Court. By the time the Jubilee weekend arrives so many people will have been involved in making all of this possible; from those running each of the various events to those who will be helping with the many practicalities of the Street Party, and the local businesses who have kindly donated prizes. At the time of writing not all these names are known but we will mention them on the day and subsequently in print. To all those who are helping, and to all who will help, we say a heartfelt ‘thank you’. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Simon Parnall, Adrienne Light and Caroline Neame

Our members have enjoyed the benefits of tennis, and the feeling of wellbeing it brings to all who play the game, since the courts were first opened in 1925. Tennis at our amateur level is as much about having fun as it is about competitiveness. It is a very social sport, allowing you to enjoy yourself with friends and opponents not only during points, but also between, before, and after the club sessions, games, or matches. It is incredibly affordable and played everywhere, all year round, so there is no excuse not to give it go and see how you feel. People who have taken up tennis say that it has changed their lives for the better in so many different ways: 91% Said tennis had a positive impact on their self-confidence and wellbeing

Across disability tennis, the findings are even more pertinent, with 83% of disabled players reporting that tennis has raised their selfconfidence and self-esteem. Further statistics showed that 83% of disabled players also said that tennis has had a positive impact on their social support network, showing that the sport is a great way of making new friends and ‘Proud Sponsors of the Juniors’ socialising with others. Playing tennis is the best stress management session you could have. If you’ve had a tough day at home, work or school then what better way to relieve pressure than hitting some tennis balls with a friend or group. It’s also a great workout. Few sports offer the fun AND aerobic activity that tennis offers. Tennis players are almost constantly in motion, using nearly every muscle in their body. It stimulates the mind, promoting mental strength and the ability to work independently or as a team. It really is a sport for everyone and for every age group and ability. It’s about community and is as much about what happens off-court as on-court. There’s nothing better than coming off court pumped full of endorphins and feeling exhilarated as you head to the clubhouse where there’s a group of likeminded people sitting with a drink in hand, a racket in their bag and eager to talk to you about great volleys, double faults, superb backhands or missed smashes. Our coach was recently voted ‘Development Coach of the Year’ and is always on hand to help you improve your game or introduce tennis to the juniors. They welcome non-members at any time, either to the bar for a laid back bite to eat or drink or if you are looking for something a little more, The Lantern Lounge is open for dinner on a Thursday and Friday night, with a reservation only, and offers stylish surroundings and a delicious cuisine with an Asian influence, whilst on a Sunday if you are getting together with family, celebrating a special occasion, or simply treating yourself to a luxurious Sunday afternoon, why not give their carvery a go. Nettle & Pea Fritters Situated in a quiet area of this beautiful village, Brookworth Homes proudly presents a select development of just three exclusive four and five bedroom homes. The elegant architecture is finished with locally sourced materials while the interiors are full of high-specification features that you would expect with modern day executive homes.

Mr R ‘five star google review’

The green and mighty pea, eaten fresh from the pod is a glorious thing. We are all too used to chucking some frozen peas into a pan of boiling water and serving them up with just about anything. So lets really shine the spotlight on these little gems of deliciousness. These pea and nettle fritters make for a great brunch or equally could be served up for lunch. Piled on to a platter with a nice big salad and some soft boiled eggs maybe? Nettles are an incredibly powerful wild herb containing many vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids. Keep your blanching water from the nettles for a quick and soul nourishing morning brew, if you don’t fancy that then allow the water to cool and use it to water your veg patch or herb garden. Make sure to wear gloves when picking the nettle tops and wash them thoroughly before cooking them. To make life a tad easier if you’re away from home you could pre mix the gram flour, spices, salt, pepper and parmesan. Then all you have to do is add in the fresh ingredients and water when you’re ready for brunch. These nettle and pea fritters would make for a great lunch too, bulked out with some feta, crisp salad leaves and maybe a light yoghurt dressing.

INGREDIENTS (serves 4)

225g gram flour Water 450g freshly podded peas 3 spring onions 2 big handfuls of nettle tops 1.5 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp onion seeds 3 sprigs fennel fronds, optional ½ fresh green chili A few good gratings of parmesan Salt and pepper Vegetable oil Pea shoots or fresh herbs to garnish

METHOD

Sift the gram flour into a bowl. Add in the cumin seeds, onion seeds, salt and pepper, stirring to combine. Slowly whisk in the water, using enough to create a fairly stiff batter. Bring a pan of salted water to the boil and plunge in your nettle tops, give them a quick stir and remove from the pan to a sieve allowing the water to drain. (you can keep the water and drink as tea if you wish, it’s full of goodness). Finely slice the spring onions, green chilli and fennel fronds. Add these ingredients to the batter along with the peas and blanched nettle tops. Finely grate in the parmesan and stir together. Place a skillet over the coals of the fire and allow to warm. Add the oil to the pan and fry tablespoons of the fritter mix, be careful not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for a couple of minutes on each side. Remove the fritters from the pan and place onto a tray, cover with foil and leave near the fire to stay warm. Serve a jumble of fritters on a plate topped with a scattering of pea shoots as a final flourish.

TADWORTH CRICKET CLUB’S (TCC) Ethos = Cricket for all! TCC club is a welcoming well established (est 1903) village cricket club that aims to provide the local community with access, regardless of ability or background, to one of the country’s most traditional past times. The club particularly aims to provide a safe and family orientated welcoming environment for juniors to continue to develop their cricketing skills. We have expanded in recent years to now include an adult Saturday 3rd XI. Something the club is keen to use as a development team to graduate the older juniors through into the highest levels of senior cricket possible. As well as 3 Saturday league teams the club runs a vibrant Sunday side. These games are played in wonderful spirit against many longstanding opponents. Tadworth's Sunday tea's also have a high reputation across the county!

In our fast-paced world we can often find ourselves feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Here are a few tips to help keep you calm and grounded throughout your week…

* Nature - Fresh air, sunshine and green

spaces are nourishing for both mind and body. Most of us spend a large chunk of our day inside so making time to be in nature is a great way to de-stress and unwind. For me stepping outside always helps clear my mind and makes me feel more relaxed. I often go for walks on Banstead Heath where I can happily lose track of time. We are so lucky to have such beautiful nature spots on our doorstep, why not take some time to explore the great outdoors in all its glory.

* Movement - Moving my body is a non-

negotiable for me. It always makes me feel better, it lifts my mood and boosts my energy levels.

The junior section continues to go from strength to strength with children from a selection of local schools all giving the club a good community feel. All age groups from under 8 to under 15 play in the Surrey junior championship leagues. This season will see 8 junior teams playing a combined total of over 80 games across the county. Hopes are high for all teams, especially the under 13's who are aiming to go one place higher than their excellent 2nd place league position last season. Underneath these age groups the club runs the very popular 'All stars' cricket sessions. These are aimed at 4 - 6 year olds beginning their cricketing journey and has sold out for the second successive year.

Just 10 minutes of mindful movement can be so beneficial. Perhaps take a short walk around the block to break up your day – you could even include some yoga into your weekly routine. Gentle yoga is a great place to start. I offer small group classes from my private studio in Walton on the Hill. Get in touch if you’d like more information. Breathing - How many times do you stop and notice the way you are breathing? The breath is such a powerful tool which can help promote relaxation. I make time each day to bring awareness to my breath, especially if I am feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Breathwork helps me reset and is a useful tool we can all access. Sit in a quiet spot, rest your hands gently on your belly, take some slow deep breaths and notice how it makes you feel.

* Rest - Most of us feel we have too many things to get done, too many demands and too many responsibilities to take time out. Resting is so beneficial for our wellbeing, yet we often feel guilty when it comes to taking some rest. Sometimes we need to do nothing and embrace the stillness, it’s something I’m always working on. Maybe you don’t have time for an afternoon nap but 10 minutes, to sit without your phone or laptop and enjoy a cup of tea is a good place to start. www.riseinsurrey.co.uk Instagram: @riseinsurrey
