KEYS TO

SUCCESS 41

ACADEMIC SUPPORT At Kennesaw State, we know students will need extra help with tricky classes from time to time. That’s why we offer free tutoring for every subject. The Writing Center will evaluate your paper and make recommendations. They even, on occasion, email your professor to let them know you sought help on a tough assignment. The result? Professors could tack on extra credit. In the Math Lab, you will find friendly faces ready to help with most freshman and sophomore mathematics classes at Kennesaw State. No appointments necessary!

LEARNING COMMUNITIES As a freshman, it can be difficult to meet other students with your major or interest area. Kennesaw State provides a personalized environment for first-year students to co-enroll with 25 other Owls in courses that are linked across a common major or theme. Students enrolled in these programs also have the option of living with these same students as part of University Housing’s NEST Communities.

42

CARE CENTER Homelessness on college campuses is a growing epidemic; Kennesaw State is working to eradicate this issue on our campus. Along with not having a place to live, homeless students struggle to find food and financial means to afford toiletries. Managing all of this while going to school can impact their ability to achieve their educational goals. The Campus Awareness, Resource & Empowerment (CARE) Center is a multifaceted campus-based service designed to offer support to students dealing with homelessness or are at-risk of being homeless.

ADVISING The advising center for New Exploratory and Students in Transition (NEST) is a unique gateway to academic opportunities across campus. Specializing in helping students narrow down a specific major, NEST can help you figure out where your talents lie. They also pay close attention to the core courses you will need for graduation as well as connect you to other academic departments once you select a major.
