Design Serving over 700 majors, the School of Art and Design is the largest unit in the College of the Arts. The School continues to grow by offering students a BFA program in Digital Animation as well as new concentration areas of study in Illustration, Sequential Art and a BAT in Apparel Textiles Technology. Further, the School recently signed an articulation agreement with ESA St. Luc Brussels, providing opportunities for student/faculty exchanges and coursework. BFA students concentrate in Ceramics, Graphic Communications, Illustration, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, Sequential Art, or Sculpture, and receive a solid classical foundation while exploring contemporary styles, methods, and materials. The Applied Arts programs (Graphic Communications, Illustration, and Sequential Art and the BFA in Digital Animation) prepare students for creative jobs in various industries. Art History students experience visual culture from a range of periods, regions and contexts. Art Education leads to K-12 teacher certification, and offers classroom experience early in the program. WHAT IS A CAPSTONE? Seniors completing their Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art Education degrees participate in capstone exhibitions that showcase artwork of various disciplines and materials representing individual styles and high levels of conceptual ability. These students are simultaneously enrolled in one of the upper-level capstone courses focusing on research as well as topics dealing with professional art, art education and design careers. Art History seniors in the Bachelor of Arts degree develop a rigorous research project in preparation for publication and present it as a public lecture.

The Department of Dance at Kennesaw State University is the largest collegiate dance program in Georgia and a leader in undergraduate dance education in the Southeastern United States. Our state-ofthe-art facilities distinguish our program in the region, and house Atlanta’s only Dance Theater and largest dance studios. The Department of Theatre & Performance Studies (“TPS�) offers a Bachelor of Arts with four concentrations: acting, performance studies (including storytelling, performance art, directing, adaptation of texts for the stage, and dramaturgy), musical theatre, and design/technology. It is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre. Students perform in plays, musicals, poetry performances, adaptations of classic literature, storytelling, improv comedy, and new works. Performances are held on two campus stages: a black box space and a 315-seat theater. The KSU Tellers, a storytelling ensemble, performs at schools and professional events like the Atlanta Fringe Festival. The TPS Improv Ensemble K.I.S.S. performs in schools and professional venues around the metro area. Education abroad experiences include the Gaiety School of Acting, the National Theatre School of Ireland, The International Festival of University Theatre in Casablanca, Morocco, and programs in London, Paris, and Montepulciano, Italy. They don’t know what the animal is, but it has feathers and teeth. And it wants to kill them all.

Reception: Sat., September 16, 6-8 p.m. Medium investigates how psychics and individuals— mediums—guide us in our exploration of the unknown. Through works ranging from 1920s séance transcripts and Cold War-era “bone records” to Carrie Mae Weems’ seductive ghostly projections, Medium introduces a space to talk about topics we don’t truly understand, to experience the impact of history as it lingers in our present.

This spring, the ZMA presents the richly textured, mixedmedia work of Tomashi Jackson in her first solo museum exhibition. Jackson’s paintings and videos explore the value of human life within public spaces through processions of color and concepts of race.
SARAH EMERSON: SOLO EXHIBITION
Sarah Emerson’s nature-based works draw in the viewer with pop-color landscapes, then flood the senses with themes of life and death. Docile woodland creatures engaging in acts of destruction hint that something dark lives in the woods.
Youth Art Gallery
Kennesaw State University’s School of Art and Design’s Art Education Program, Bagwell College of Education, and Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art have joined together to create two high-profile Youth Art Galleries on KSU’s campus. Located in Kennesaw Hall and the Chantal and Tommy Bagwell Education Building, each gallery provides a space where pre-K to 12th grade educators can showcase their students’ artwork. Spring and fall rotations highlight KSU student teachers and alumni while the summer rotation is open to any Georgiabased teacher.
