Earn your Master of Art in Teaching Art (MAT) at Kennesaw State University, and get started today on your new career as an artist/educator holding T-5 certification. The MAT Art program offers initial certification for individuals holding one of the following: Bachelor of Fine Arts Bachelor of Arts in Art Bachelor of Science in Art The MAT in Art is a 48-credit hour program comparable to other MAT programs housed in KSU’s Bagwell College of Education. Candidates are admitted based on a selective portfolio review and application process.

Our distinctive curriculum is based on the Comprehensive Arts Education model, emphasizing production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics. The program follows national and state standards defined by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. These rigorous criteria, along with Georgia Performance Standards, are the foundation of our program’s objectives. In our accredited program, you’ll benefit from hands-on research projects and theoretical studies in art education. In compliance with state and professional standards, you’ll experience cutting edge methods and enhance your understanding of creativity, diversity and global awareness.

The MAT Art Ed program at Kennesaw State University rigorously prepared me to be an adept artist-scholar and educator...it has been the most profoundly significant experience of my educational career.

Why KSU? As a Kennesaw State University MAT student, you’ll undergo a series of challenging practica within a variety of settings. You’ll engage in reflective dialogue with mentors, peers and professional art educators, all while making contacts in some of the state’s finest school districts. Each semester is designed around a theme: Semester I: The Learner: Development, Psychology, and Diversity Semester II: The Learner in the School: Curriculum, Assessment, and Management Semester III: Teaching in Schools: Contemporary Issues in Art Education Semester IV: The Teacher as a Professional: Reflective Inquiry, Research and Presentation of Artist Portfolio Semester V: Teacher as Leader: Presentation of Research and Professional Educational Portfolio
