Will AI be the death of literature?

poetic and concise version:

I don’t think so.

“In the silence of my dim sanctuary, with fingers poised, a flicker of fear ignited: Could AI claim dominion over my words?”

The current ability of AI to process prompts is still quite limited and often produces clichéd and shallow responses. Take, for example, when I asked ChatGpt to write a personal anecdote about a young writer fearing the takeover of their profession. The initial AI-generated response lacked authenticity and depth: “In the dimly lit room, the young writer sat, fingers hovering hesitantly over the keyboard, his heart heavy with a fear that whispered in his mind: could AI truly seize control of his beloved profession?” Attempting to improve it, I asked for a first-person perspective, seeking a genuine voice: “In the dimly lit room, I sat, fingers hovering hesitantly over the keyboard, my heart heavy with a fear that whispered in my mind: could AI truly seize control of my beloved profession?” But it still felt contrived and artificial. So, I asked for a more

It was stupid, realizing how AI struggles to capture the essence of true expression. AI’s impact on literature is far from being its death knell. While it may assist in certain tasks, it lacks the depth, authenticity, and creativity that define great literature. The human experience, with its emotions, perspectives, and unique voices, cannot be replicated by AI algorithms alone. SO, WHERE IS IT GOOD? Ocean Vuong, an esteemed author, delves into the clash between traditional and AI writing. He declares, “Within the realm of the poet, the sanctity of human expression prevails. Artificial intelligence may attempt to imitate language, but it falls short in capturing the profound intricacies of our emotions, cultural nuances, and lived experiences that fuel our poetry. Our verses resonate with the unique cadence of our voices,

forging connections that transcend boundaries. Let us embrace our poetic power to shape the world authentically, with an unwavering grace.” Vuong’s profound statement resonates deeply, highlighting the irreplaceable value of human expression and the limitations of AI in capturing its essence. His words evoke admiration for the intricate literary devices he employs, which organically flow through his writing. This stark contrast between Vuong’s genuine expression and the earlier AI-generated prompt is a testament to the vast disparity in literary quality. It is fascinating to consider that the statement we just read, which garnered such praise, is itself a product of AI. It is not Vuong’s own words but was generated by ChatGPT using a detailed prompt tailored to mimic Vuong’s unique tone and poetic language found in his acclaimed works. It is not Vuong’s own, but rather a product of ChatGPT in response to a meticulously designed prompt aimed at mimicking Vuong’s poetic language and tone.

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT… US? AI’s impact on modern literature is a nuanced one, encompassing both positive and negative aspects. On the positive side, AI tools and technologies offer valuable assistance to writers, aiding in idea generation, suggesting improvements, and providing language support. These tools can enhance productivity and unleash new creative possibilities for authors to explore. However, there are valid concerns regarding the limitations of AI-generated content. While AI can imitate certain styles and patterns, it often falls short when it comes to capturing the profound depth, authenticity, and human experience that define great literature. Literature is deeply intertwined with the emotions, perspectives, and cultural nuances unique to human authors. Their personal experiences, individual writing styles, and conscious/subconscious interplay contribute to the richness and resonance of their work, creating a tapestry of language that is unmistakably their own. The human element in literature, with its capacity for empathy, introspection, and nuanced expression, remains irreplaceable. The distinct voice of human authors, rooted in their individuality, continues to shape resonant and impactful literary works. Furthermore, as AI gains wider adoption in literature, there is a potential risk of marginalizing human authors and diminishing the value placed on their creative autonomy. The overreliance on AI-generated storytelling may lead to a loss of diversity and a silencing of underrepresented voices in mainstream literature. HOW ABOUT IN THE ACADEME? AI has the potential to disrupt academic institutions that resist change and fail to embrace its benefits. Our traditionalist institution is particularly vulnerable to this threat. Professors and lecturers struggle to adapt to AI-powered academic papers and texts, while students can access personalized learning experiences and advanced research resources outside our institution. Example of this is how our GEC curriculums are still struggling to even craft their own modules while students can easily dumb everything down through AI. This puts us at a disadvantage as students seek

institutions that embrace AI and offer cutting-edge education. However, AI alone does not determine the future of literature in institutions. It is how institutions integrate and utilize AI that will shape its impact. An overreliance on AI-generated content and automated writing tools may undermine the originality and creativity essential to literature. Prioritizing efficiency and convenience over genuine human expression risks homogenizing literary works and depriving them of the depth, complexity, and unique perspectives human authors bring.

various aspects of the writing process, the essence of literature lies in the depths of human imagination, emotion, and creativity. Literature is a reflection of the human experience, capturing the complexities and nuances of our existence. While AI may have its applications, many argue that it cannot replicate the profound artistry and insight that arise from human writers. The future relationship between AI and literature is yet to unfold, and it is up to writers, readers, and society at large to shape its course.

I asked Chatgpt. It replied:

The fake anecdote that Chatgpt gave to me might be half-true and half-relatable. Perhaps, in the silence of my dim sanctuary, with fingers poised, a flicker of fear continues to ignite…

As an AI language model, I don’t possess personal opinions or beliefs.

It is long overdue upang hindi ipasa ang SOGIE Bill sa senado – Mx. “For the National Government, it’s long overdue for the SOGIE bill to be delayed. I think, it needs to be passed right here, right now, and as soon as possible,” giit pa ni Delloro.

“It’s very surreal and I felt very happy being one with my fellow LGBT community individuals marching for rights, bringing our banner, waving the pride flag. And I think, it is a very good optics — a very good picture that we see, that the LGBTQIA+ community in MSU is united against injustices,” pahayag ng mag-aaral.

Claudia looked at him with genuine excitement, despite it being their second time interacting within the semester. Right. She’s asking for him, oddly yet specifically him, to join her along on a museum work. “It won’t take long! Please?” Claudia clasps both of her hands together in attempt to show plea. Dain begrudgingly accepts the offer.

A Few and More Rolando L. Baisac, Jr. No matter how far the lonely one traveled, I would always be the person where he belongs Forever, and then some more...

It took a split second to fall, And a few more to notice and admire his eyes; And a lot of trust to create a friendship; For everyone feels on their own pace; Everyone has their own time; Hours to know one another, It was easy to say forever and more, Because most people don’t know what it truly meant, Yet, within the second he fell, he understood it right away, As forever was right by his vision, Offering him his unique and brightest smile, Under the dim light; But then it only took a minute

and a heartbreak, For him to shatter what could have been theirs; He was always certain about what he felt, But then, it was not the same for the other; So there he flew to find his calling; A journey that took him seven times around the sun, And a thousand miles across the earth Only for him to realize that, No matter how far the lonely one traveled, I would always be the person where he belongs Forever, And then some more.
