Movable square

The site is located in the fashion center of Shanghai, Xintiandi where diversified events are held there. A multifunctional square is needed for such various events.

The movable structures on the tracks is proposed for the possibilities of the different functions. Variable compositions allow the plaza to transfrom from a boulevard to a weekend market, from a square to film festival field.

The site is surrounded by the business district, tourist attractions and residential areas. As the fashion center of China and the downtown area of Shanghai,diversified groups enable activities diversified. It includes sports, leisure, market and a variety of big events. Therefore, changeable structure are created to meet the diversified needs of this space.

The width and shape of the structure are primarily controlled by the rail. There are two ways proposed for the changeable structures. Firstly, the shape can be adjusted by the rail. Second, forms can be also adjusted by controlling the angle of the component while maintaining the same width.
