A friend once told me, “I think you’ve lost your marbles, but that’s okay; you’ll just make some more.” Those words have rolled around in the back of my thoughts since they first were spoken to me. Though spoken in jest, there was an odd comfort in the idea of having the ability to fabricate a sense of order when the world felt in chaos. In moments when I feel myself becoming lost, fearing I may never find my way back, I make marbles. As I wander deep into my mind twisting and turning, searching, hoping to find some tiny part of myself, I feel time pass and time stand still. But, no matter how many I make, no matter how much time passes, I know I can never make enough to fill whatever it is I am trying to fill. And even as the world turns and begins to feel like what I remember I am searching for, it will never be the same.
