MAKING THE GIFT OF A LIFETIME
A legacy gift to Kents Hill School enables you to make a difference in the lives of future generations of Huskies, secures your own financial needs and those of your loved ones, and can provide significant tax benefits. While there are many different types of legacy gifts, the simplest, most flexible, and most common are bequests and beneficiary designations.
These types of gifts are easy to arrange, may be revoked or modified during your lifetime if your needs change, and do not alter your current lifestyle. Best of all, anyone can make a difference through a bequest or beneficiary designation.
1824 LEGACY SOCIETY
When you make a gift to Kents Hill School that will be realized through your estate plans, you will be welcomed into the 1824 Legacy Society. The society was established to honor the school’s founding and to recognize the generous alumni, parents, and friends who have chosen to support our mission beyond their lifetimes and well into the next 200 years.

BEQUEST
A bequest is cash or property given through a will or trust. You may choose to give a specific dollar amount, a specific percentage of your estate, securities, real estate, or personal property. You may also choose to make Kents Hill School the primary beneficiary or a contingent beneficiary, which means the school will receive the property only if a named beneficiary (for instance a spouse) is unable to accept the bequest. If you already have a will or trust established, it can be updated to include Kents Hill School at any time.
To include Kents Hill School in your will or trust, please consider the following language:
“I hereby bequeath ____________ (specify % or $ amount or property) to Kents Hill School, P.O. Box 257, Kents Hill, ME 04349 (tax ID #010211532) to be used for its general support (or for the support of a specific fund or program).”
BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION
A beneficiary designation allows you to name Kents Hill School as the partial or complete beneficiary of your retirement plan, life insurance policy, or donor advised fund. For many plans, a change of beneficiary form can be found online, and the form is simple to complete with the following information:

Retirement Plan
Designate Kents Hill School to receive all or a portion of your retirement plan. As an added benefit, naming the school as a beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan asset such as a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh, or profit-sharing pension often results in significant tax savings when compared with leaving such assets to your heirs.
Charitable IRA Rollover
Donors who are 70 ½ and older can transfer up to $100,000 per year directly to Kents Hill School from a traditional IRA, to count toward the required minimum distribution (RMD). While there is no charitable deduction for a rollover gift, you will avoid paying tax on the donated portion.
Life Insurance Policy
Name Kents Hill School as the beneficiary or partial beneficiary of your life insurance policy. Or donate an existing, paid-up life insurance policy that you no longer need. You may also purchase a new life insurance policy and name Kents Hill School as the owner and beneficiary.
Donor Advised Fund
Name Kents Hill School as the beneficiary or one of the beneficiaries to receive the balance of your donor advised fund or other financial account. Contact your fund administrator for instructions. Note that you can also make a grant to the school at any time from your donor advised fund.
