THE CLAY PLACE Featured Artists Kay Smith and Robert E. Lewis IN THE COURTYARD OF WONDERS Live music by: George McLaurine Pizza from from:: The Cob Oven Crew

Art Night Featured Artists from the Clay Place Kentuck is established the Kentuck Clay Co-op in response to community interest. The Co-op is an outgrowth of Kentuck’s three-prong mission to perpetuate the arts, engage the community, and empower the artist. The Co-op is intended to provide a place in which “hobby” potters at all skill levels can become members in a and to have a place in which to work in a nurturing atmosphere.

Kay Smith first was introduced to clay in her high school art club, and instead of making the usual bowl or ash tray she decided to make a head of a Japanese girl. She knew from that moment, she wanted to work with clay. Family and work took priority, as it does, and clay had to wait until she retired. She was introduced to and took wheelthrowing lessons from Kentuck studio artist Kerry Kennedy. Smith was instrumental in beginning Kentuck’s Clay Co-op.

Live music by George McLaurine IN THE COURTYARD OF WONDERS George McLaurine has played professionally for nearly 50 years in venues that range from the honky tonks of Birmingham, where he grew up, to Carnegie Hall in New York City and from Underground Atlanta to the hotel cabarets of San Francisco and Hawaii. His musical tastes tend toward an acoustic sound and his performances include an extensive repertoire of folk, early country, gospel, bluegrass, rockabilly and pop standards from George Gershwin to George Jones, from the Carter family to Jimmy Buffett, from Flatt & Scruggs to the Zac Brown Band. Thought retired from the traveling circuit, he performs frequently at private functions and small venues in the West Alabama area. His family friendly performances are fun for young and old alike.
