The Kentuck Clay Co-op Featured Artists: Shirley “Hayes” Dobbins Shirley "Hayes" Dobbins is an artist and Tuscaloosa native. She has been creating art in some form since she could hold a crayon. She studied Art at the University of Montevallo and graduated in 2001 with a BFA in Studio Art, concentrating in sculpture. Most recently she has been creating “sculptural jewelry” and hand building pottery sculptures. This summer, she has been teaching young minds about the basics of hand building pottery during the Clay Place children workshops.
Elizabeth Thomas Elizabeth Thomas had her first experience with clay just a few months ago right here at Kentuck Art Center. On December 1, 2013, Thomas joined the Clay Co-op and began working right away. She has been working almost every day since and finds the creative process to be a therapeutic experience. Another perk of working with clay is getting her hands dirty.
Music in the: Courtyard of Wonders
The Voodoo Saints are a New Orleans style Dixieland Jazz group based out of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. We like to take people back to traditional New Orleans Jazz styles made famous by the likes of Jelly Roll Morton or Louis Armstrong. We also play some Dr. John, Professor Longhair, and The Meters. It's mostly Jazz, but we've got some Blues, Funk, Mardi Gras Indian Music, and Latin as well. We try to bring a little slice of New Orleans to Alabama! Our hot jazz group's main mission is to provide more than enough fun, cheer, and positivity to make even the hardest working professional forget about the cares and woes of their day. So come see us next time we're performing and we're pretty sure you'll leave saying "These three guys know how to make you feel like everyday is Mardi Gras Day."
