Art Night
Kentuck
An Ode to Warhol IN THE COURTYARD OF WONDERS Come to Kentuck as we honor Andy Warhol by viewing his screen tests. Warhol referred to these screen tests as his film portraits. They could be considered an evolved ascension of still life portraits in paintings or photography. Perhaps, directing a subject on film was a deeper approach to exploring character - a more intimate way for him to capture the intrigue of his muses and friends. The film portraits will be projected on the facade of the Kentuck building in the Courtyard of Wonders. The images will be paired with improvisational music performed by Holland Hopson.
Portraits by AARON HEAD and SARA JOHNSON In the spirit of Warhol's film portraits, Art Night guests are encouraged to have their own portraits taken by Kentuck photographers, Aaron Head and Sara Johnson. Aaron Head is studying art history at the University of Alabama. He is a part-time staff member at Kentuck Art Center and the Paul R. Jones Gallery. Aaron is a photographer who strives to create images that are immediately nostalgic. His portfolio is available on his website. http://www.aaronheadphotography.com Sara Johnson is the Kentuck Art Center's photography and office intern originally hailing from Tampico, Mexico. She spent most of her life in Dallas, Texas until moving to Tuscaloosa on a full scholarship to study photography at the University of Alabama.
Live music by: Holland Hopson IN THE COURTYARD OF WONDERS
Holland Hopson will perform a set of improvisations to accompany the Warhol film portraits. A multi-instrumentalist, Holland will play a variety of string instruments, live electronics and even a collection of metronomes. He often augments his instruments with customdesigned sensor interfaces and performs using his own computer programs that respond in real-time to his playing. Holland Hopson is a Huntsville native relocated to Tuscaloosa from Albany, New York. Featured Clay Place Artist Doris Blum Born in New York and raised in Savannah, Georgia, Doris Blum has been dabbling with clay for over forty years. After the kids moved out and the cat died, Doris had time for herself and found a clay instructor. She was driven to find her own process in ceramics because of her instructor's tough love approach. A process that Doris may not have found on her own. Doris is thrilled to be part of the Kentuck Clay Co-op. She enjoys making functional pieces with a bit of bug whimsy.
