LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

STREET SCENE

Lexington’s street art scene has exploded in recent years, making it the perfect backdrop for the explosion of color in spring fashion. Forget pastels, spring is all about bold color and rich patterns.

Three years ago I picked up a KRNL fashion magazine at Coffea and decided to get involved in what would be one of my most defining college experiences. Now, as I present our spring issue – my last issue – I’m so proud of the lessons I’ve learned and the beautiful work we’ve created through the years. This issue is a little different than our others, as it is published primarily online instead of as a printed magazine. As fashion and journalism speeds closer and closer to digital exclusivity, we hope this new platform will allow even more creativity from our student innovators. As for spring, we’ve battled the fickle Kentucky weather to bring you three styles of local fashion from Bluetique and Pop’s Resale, shot at locations that make Lexington the cultural gem that it is. Our first photo shoot was spent traveling to different street art locations in Lexington, where we paired the vibrant colors of our city’s murals with the vibrant colors and patterns of spring fashion. At the Kentucky Theater, we escaped to the retro West, complete with flowing polka dots, bedazzled blazers and strong shoulders, while at Woodland Park, we turn to the opposite with modern black and white stripes illuminated by shadows of the environment. As we move further into spring and the new beginnings for all of us, I urge everyone to stay vibrant, stay hopeful, and stay fabulous. Sincerely,

WILD WEST

From subtle embellishments to overflowing ruffles, references to the Old West have invaded the upcoming seasons of fashion. With the freedom of summer fast approaching, take notes from the freest of them all: the cowboys of the wild, wild west.

BLURRED LINES

With the brightness of the summer sun also comes the intensity of dark shadows. Black and white is a staple of fashion no matter the season, but it just happens to be perfectly suited to the contrasts of summer.
