January 2016 I KENYA BUZZ Monthly

The 10 Best Films of 2015 These movies are the toast of 2015 filmmaking. The reason why we all enjoyed going to the cinemas this past year. They thrilled us, they made us laugh, they made us weep and overall, they created unforgettable memories. 10 | JURASSIC WORLD

Jurassic World is a fun and entertaining roller coaster of adventure and spectacle with a good balance of escapism, humour, thrills and chills that you will not doubt enjoy.

9 | MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION

Everything comes together in Rogue Nation. The grand and marvelous sets supplement the ridiculously creative stunts to give the audiences just the right twinge of danger, while the intrigue is edge-of-the-seat stuff.

8 | FURIOUS 7

Furious 7’s loud moments are perfectly weighted with intimate ones. And with Paul Walker’s shadow hanging over the film, what previously seemed like typical Furiouspeak now takes on a honest, more solemn meaning.

7 | SELMA

It beautifully recreates 1960s America with the set and costume design. The cinematography impeccably utilizes a muted feel of 60s footage helping to pull you back into history.

Action and tension scenes are perfectly juxtaposed with those of conversation and reflective moments giving you an intimate view of the main players in this struggle.

6 | THE WALK

The Walk resembles a nostalgic memory or

dream... But the most exhilarating thing about The Walk is the impressive display of 3D filmmaking.

5 | ANT-MAN

If Ant-Man’s constant shark-like progression is its strength, the cinematography is its brilliance. The imagination and execution of the visuals are unlike anything seen before... Ant-Man is cool. More often than not using that word to describe a movie comes off as lowbrow and unintelligent but this is the first time in 2015 that the word suffices.

4 | THE MARTIAN

Damon’s devotion to The Martian role is palpable and his use of humour to deal with his situation, effortless; I can already hear the Oscar buzz.

3 | INSIDE OUT

Inside Out is more than just an entertaining film; it gives an interesting and heartfelt insight into how emotions influence behaviour.

2 | STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

The Force Awakens is a triumph of visual storytelling... Ultimately, it will go down as not only one of the most memorable movies of 2015 but of cinema history. It is thrilling, it is entertaining, it is touching and it is a mustwatch.

1 | MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

Calling it awesome would be a huge understatement. It’s a GREAT movie that encompasses many social messages as well as some ‘kick-ass’ actionPawa 254 Juniper’s Social

One, very long confusing film. Not even having George Clooney as the star helped... A build-up to a mystery destination that ends up being a disappointment when you finally get there.

It’s official, Ian Fleming’s super spy has overstayed his welcome... I’d slash more than just my wrists if I had to watch one more Bond film.

The only thing The Wedding Ringer succeeds at is proving that coming up with a comedyconcept and throwing Kevin Hart in it does not always deliver the desired results.

An over-the-top action film whose violent sequences will leave you gaping, its gags pissed and script shaking your head.

The film fails miserably at bringing out drama, both cinematically and performance wise. It goes in all heart but no mind... It’s a messy and silly film which you won’t really miss on if you skip.

The effects appear sloppy and are laughable... This film is going to ruin childhood nostalgia and be a major disappointment for die-hard comic fans.

The plot is predictable and script full of oneliners delivered mechanically mainly by 47 and Katia. Its attempt at humour falls down flat.

3 | TED 2

I seriously don’t know how this film was pitched and how, if anyone (the makers and studio execs), kept a straight face or closed mouth as it happened.

2 | GET HARD

Get Hard is rude, crude and insensitive. It overly stereotypes race, homosexuality, wealth, prison and other societal issues in between.

1 | PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2

Every single scene on Mall Cop 2 lasts longer than it should... Mall Cop 2 is so bad it makes Get Hard look good... This film is an overall waste of time.
