Experience Employee/Intern, Creative Environments, Bedford, IN (May 2007- Current) Design/Build firm. Worked on the installation crew, in the nursery, and with principal in planting design. Learned how to design and create water features, planting features, patios, retaining walls, and walkways. Went with principal to new sites, met with clients, and designed commercial and residential landscapes. Learned to design in respect to client’s needs and budgets.

Interacted with clients and designed successful solutions to problems on a limited budget. Emphasis on using local materials and plants to reduce cost and improve sustainability. Main Street for the Arts
Fall 2010
This project called for the design of an arts corridor along Main Street. The concept was to rethink the street as an urban greenway that served a dual purpose as a primary pedestrian way and stormwater infiltration/ retention basin.

Regional Demonstration Highway Midterm Graphics Focusing on Highway 37 in the southern Indiana counties of Lawrence and Monroe, this project looks at redeveloping the modern highway framework. The concept is to weave environmental and social aspects into a municipal setting. Emphasis is on land use in right of ways, interchanges, and wildlife crossings.

Planting Design
Japanese Garden
Spring 2009
This project called for the design of a 120’ by 120’ plot of land to be developed into a demonstration garden. This square was then part of a larger botanical garden. The garden demonstrates four of types of Japanese gardens: rock, water, stroll, and tea. Carefully selected plant material creates reflection of colors, contrast of textures, and enclosures.

LEED Community The Sakai Development is a LEED GOLD accredited community located in a protected wetland. Pedestrian access is created throughout the site. The development is located in the portion of the site with 10% slope or less. Each cluster of housing consists of a central courtyard for a community within the community feel.

This comprehensive project involved creating a construction document set for a design of a city park. Various phases included, but were not limited to, site grading, stormwater management, road layout, parking lot layout, concrete joint layout, planting plan, and erosion control.

AutoCAD This project consisted of grading a community center, parking lot, and tennis courts. All stormwater had to be managed on site through rain gardens and bioswales.

Myrtaceae Family Scientific Name Melaleuca quinquenerva Common Name Broad-leaved Paperbark Height 25 m Habit small to medium Tree Location Along waterways and swamps
Characteristics Melaleuca quinquenervia is a medium tree that grows along water edges in New South Wales. The name Melaleuca comes from the Greek words melas (black) and leukos (white), which refer to the marks on the trunks due to fire. The name quinquenervia comes from the Latin quinque (five) and nervus (nerve) which refer to the leaf vein pattern. The tree is similar to the river birch in its tolerance of water and peeling bark. It is mainly seen growing in pure stands, and is also dry tolerant.

During my semester study in Lennox Head, Australia, I engaged in an independent study that focused on documenting the various coastal plant biomes through photography. Emphasis was on prominent plant species and invasive plants.

Backyard Garden
Spring 2009
The client asked for a tranquil space featuring a small pond and garden that would attract birds and butterflies. Fragrant flowers such as roses, lilies, salvia, and coneflowers attract wildlife. The shallow flowing stream allows birds to bathe. All field stone was harvested from a local farm.
