Message From The Management Team of Kerby Centre
Kerby Centre is the home of the volunteer spirit.
volunteers are the life blood of Kerby Centre.
We have more than 1,000 volunteers who contributed nearly 62,000 hours in 2018. Hours that were used supporting older adults, making our programs and services possible, and helping build a better community.
Each year we conduct a volunteer survey and we were quite pleased with the results from 2018. Ninety per cent of our volunteers rate their overall volunteer experience as good or excellent, and 96 per cent would recommend volunteering at Kerby Centre to others.
Kerby Centre could not provide the services we do without the support of our dedicated volunteers.
Kerby Centre thanks all of those who volunteer for us, and throughout our city. Thank you for lifting our community.
From delivering groceries, to helping at special events, to The staff of Kerby Centre serving on the Board of Directors, continue to develop programs,
try new ideas, and rise to meet the changing needs of older adults. For example, we used a FCSS one-time grant to research the state of older workers in the city, in collaboration with other agencies. In August, the FIT Room at Kerby Centre was relocated and expanded. The new room provides more space, natural light, new equipment, and an open and welcoming atmosphere. The changes were very well received by the FIT Room membership, as program usage increased by 31% over the last 3 months of 2018.
Kerby Centre’s Ukulele classes had the honour of performing in Canada Music Square at Studio Bell in December. In the annual staff survey, the Kerby Centre team was asked what keeps them working at Kerby. This word cloud shows the most used words in their answers.

Our clients, instructors, and volunteers were thrilled to take part in the project. Background: Kerby Centre has become increasingly involved in the issue of caregiver burnout. In an effort to learn more about this issue, we sponsored a study called “Caregiver Perceptions of Support Programs in Calgary in 2017/2018.
Fundraising Support received through the Calgary Foundation has made a considerable difference in the lives of thousands of older adults who benefit from our programs and services. Thank you for believing in us and supporting our work in the community. We thank the Calgary Foundation for their support of Kerby Centre’s programs and their great work for our community.
