Hampton Bays The most densely populated hamlet of the South Fork is also the place with more waterfront land than any of its Hamptons neighbors. Yet the fisherman’s dream remains affordable and accessible. Due to its many charms, Hampton Bays is, however, a hamlet on the rise. Quogue Though Quogue and East Quogue share a name, the village and the hamlet are decidedly different. Quogue, which was initially named “Quawcanantucke” by the Shinnecock Native Americans, was populated in the early 1700s. Residents of Quogue proudly call their village “the Sagaponack of the West.” Residents of East Quogue, which was settled in 1673 as “Fourth Neck,” are more content to embrace the hamlet’s workingclass Americana-type roots.
