KROC Greetings, Kroc Friends and Family, This year has flown by! In just a few days we will cel ebrate Christmas and the n we close out this year. And with the close of one, com es the beginning of a new . We hear lots of folks talking about New Year’s resolu tions around this time. No t all of us will make New Year’s resolutions, but isn’t it nic e that we get a chance to start again? Doesn’t everyone like a fresh start? Someth ing about the New Year gives us the urge to get things in order and begin new habits and behaviors. Som e folks will start a new diet plan, embark on a new exercis e journey, begin routine for daily devotions, stop sm oking, quit eating out, or whatever adjustment the y feel necessary for their course . Wherever you find you rself in that resolution spe ctrum, we are glad you are here— whether you enjoy the Kro c cen ter for fell ow shi p, better health, fun, or eve n worship—we feel you have made a wonderful choice and we are glad you hav e chosen to be a part of this “family.” We have lots of programs and events going on at the Kroc and we encour age you to get involved in all tha t The Salvation Army offe rs. Take some new classe s, join in on our fellowship gat herings, check out a Bib le Study, and attend wo rship with us on Sunday morning. We have a little someth ing for everyone around here, so check it out. As we head into this Ne w Year, we pray that the Lord is leading the way in your life. We also pray that if there are corrections to be made to your course , that you draw your strength from the ultimate source, God. “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me .” Ps. 28:7b God Bless, Captains Jimmy & Lacy Parrish

Exercise Compassion - The Kroc Center Story
When you join the Kerrville Kroc Center, you’re not only exercising your body, you’re exercising compassion by helping The Salvation Army meet the needs of young people and families right here in the Hill Country. In 1998, Mrs. Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, donated $90 million to The Salvation Army to build a comprehensive community center in San Diego, California. Her goal was to create a center, supported in part by the community, where children and families would be exposed to different people, activities and arts that would otherwise be beyond their reach. When Mrs. Kroc passed away in October 2003, she left $1.5 billion - much of her estate - to The Salvation Army. This marked the largest single gift given to any single charity at one time. The gift was specifically designated to build a series of state-of-the-art Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Centers nationwide, patterned after the San Diego center. No other U.S. charity – faith-based or otherwise – has ever undertaken such a sweeping construction effort with the potential to impact millions of people. This year, a total of 27 centers will be finished nationwide, completing the 10 year construction project. Kerrville’s Kroc Center opened its doors in November of 2010, and is the only center in Texas. Operating costs for the center are funded by sales of memberships, rentals, and events. Donations made to The Salvation Army continue to solely fund Social Service programs and outreach. In keeping with Joan Kroc’s vision, the Center is a place where all members of our community – young and old – can come together like never before, transforming countless lives in the process.
