180 Degree Rule

+

The 180-degree rule refers to an imaginary line that cuts through the middle of the scene from side to side with respect of the camera. If you cross the line during filming it will change your viewers perspective, which will cause confusion. If you’re going to be using multiple cameras when filming its important you position them on the same side.

Rule of Thirds The rule of thirds is when you make sure the main point of your focus and interest is highlighted on one of the four intersection lines. The rule of thirds works like this there are imaginary lines drawn dividing the image splitting the picture into thirds both lines horizontally and vertically. It’s important you place the most important element of the shot where the lines intersect. Using the rule of third helps to produce good pictures and it helps to produce nicely balanced on the eye pictures.

Use of Equipment Its important that you consider the purpose of a shot before you start because you need to think carefully what would look right in your short film. It is significant that you have the right equipment and clothing you want the person your filming to wear before you start, it is also important that if you film the same shot of a different shot on a different day that the person is wearing the same clothes or it would look wrong once the film is ready. You need to think about the background of your shot if your not doing a close up show seeing as you wouldn’t see the background on a close up shot. You need think about if you want your background to give of additional information. The light of your shot helps to create your image it’s significant that the light is behind the person filming not the person being filmed. When recording the time and weather when your filming will effect your image.
