SHORT TAKES Today’s KET: Serving all Kentuckians One of the great joys throughout my years at KET is hearing how public media makes a difference in the lives of the people we serve. Nearly every day — whether through a note in my mailbox, a Facebook post, or a casual conversation started by someone who noticed my KET tote bag while standing in line at the grocery — I’m fortunate to hear the many ways in which people connect with and benefit from KET and PBS. From parents, like Dr. Sajadi (featured in this month’s Visions magazine), who value the quality educational programming and resources of PBS Kids, to lifelong explorers who turn to KET to help enrich their understanding of the world around them — From those who’ve said KET’s programs about Kentucky inspire their own travels across the Commonwealth, to armchair travelers who are grateful for the programs that take them places they would otherwise be unable to go — All these stories and countless others like them reinforce the impact KET’s programming can have on every Kentuckian. It’s through your generous support that this is made possible. During TeleFund, please donate or renew your membership to KET. Your contribution directly supports the purchase of programs you love, from Masterpiece and Movie Classics to Nova, Doc Martin, specials from Ken Burns, and so much more. Plus, you’re helping our community and those throughout our state, especially our youngest citizens, to have access to vital educational resources —including series like Sesame Street, The Cat in the Hat, and Curious George. Thank you for making KET possible for every Kentuckian. Sincerely, Shae Hopkins KET Executive Director and CEO 22

American Graduate initiative expands In support of its role as a partner in public media’s American Graduate initiative, KET has launched amgrad.ket.org, a new website providing current information about efforts to increase Kentucky’s high school graduation rate. The website provides KET education programs and resources addressing early childhood through adult education. It also offers a place to nominate an individual who has played an important role in the life of a young person as an American Graduate Champion. “We hope parents, teachers, and community members will find information and inspiration from the American Graduate initiative,” said Nancy Carpenter, senior director of education at KET.
