The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate as part of the Ministry For Health has launched a new service called “Ħu Kontroll! Ħiliet għal min għandu kundizzjoni kronika”. These are group sessions targeted at people living with a chronic disease (such as diabetes, arthritis, chronic pain, heart disease etc), helping individuals to learn new skills and tools to better manage the impact a health condition can bring. This course is a new service in Malta and is similar to programmes organised in Europe, USA and Canada. They have been shown to be very beneficial to people to live a better life and empower people even when they have a long term health condition.
Group sessions are being held in local councils across Malta. Each group meets once a week for six consecutive weeks, with each session lasting 3 hours. The Directorate organises and supplies all the material required, as well as pays the tutors. There are no charges for participants.
