“GIG ECONOMY” PREP SCOPE OF WORK FOR GENERATION
Z
The “gig economy” is primarily for people who are entrepreneurial, adventurous, goalfocused and more driven by achievement than power. Those who choose to live the gig economy lifestyle are truly on their own, which can be scary, but the tradeoff is that they have the freedom to do the type of work that can maximize their full potential and adapt to changing environments. This Venn diagram illustrates the ecosystem that Dakar Interactive operates inside of. Our goal is to integrate the best of breed tools to develop a scalable and customized solution for Career Tech Education programs in Los Angeles County high schools.
The Creative Industry Coalition (CIC) for LAUSD Arts facilitates long-term, mutually beneficial Partnership between the creative industry in Los Angeles and the LAUSD Arts Education Branch so our students receive the arts education they deserve. 10 CIC partners have committed 100 paid summer internships (2017) that will connect a short list of 10 programs and their respective instructors to externships that will enable the instructor to better assist in the preparation of potential candidates to meet the specific requirement of those CIC partners in this “gig” economy. Our ‘gig’ economy solution works with the instructor, student, and parents to integrate digital media and life/personal development skills required to compete for coveted paid summer internship/apprenticeship programs. We'll measure student's performance and growth through a process powered by mentorship from business professionals who will provide interview preparation modules, personal references and oversight for all interview preparation processes. Integral to our solution is building the students capability to develop and apply the 360degree emotional skills to tell their stories in digital platforms, as well as project well in interviews and subsequent immersion into professional corporate environments. Instructors will be supplemented and supported by industry professionals to assure a precise alignment for instructors to customize into their curriculums, as well as provide a fulcrum of resources for the ever-changing creative industry standards, human resources best practices and training trends for the emerging “gig’ economy.
Our strategy is to implement our “gig economy tool inside of an undetermined number of in-classroom visits, after-school, and weekend boot camps to prepare 11th grade students to submit themselves for qualification and compete for paid and unpaid summer internships from such companies as Disney in particular, and a list (attached) of LAUSD Arts Education Branch Creative Industry Partners. The preparatory sessions are designed with each module to measure and apply precise training to test student’s capability to successfully submit themselves for (real) opportunities with corporation’s guidelines and deadlines.
The preparatory sessions are designed with each module to measure and apply precise training to test student’s capability to successfully submit themselves to CIC guidelines and deadlines. The preparatory modules are designed to supplement Instructor Aaron Lemos’s existing curriculum as a transparent overlay. The integration of our tools will deliver measurements to bolster the classrooms capability to publish “gig economy” certified portfolios for any CIC applications that includes resume, bio, and content reel’s.
The training modules will provide mentor critiques of students’ ongoing portfolios to, reinforce their understanding of concepts and directions, and help keep them focused and on track to (10) Committed Summer Paid Internships and (1) Externship for Instructor Aaron Lemos. We will also work with students on delivering successful team presentations that will culminate into a submission to Executive Director Rory Pullens, Arts Education Branch, and LAUSD.

SAMPLE STUDENT PITCH LESSON PITCHING YOURSELF IN TWO MINUTES OR LESS They make up their mind about you in the first 2:00 minutes. Know what to say in the first few minutes. They have to like you, if they’re going to read you…and hire you. Make yourself MEMORABLE. Use Memorable Images, start with your name and what you do. For Example: I’m Maria De Los Santos, I write one-hour TV series in the action genre. Create a NARRATIVE ABOUT YOURSELF Things that imply your skill sets… “I worked in a hospital. My first job was As a bartender on a golf course. I’m an Uber driver to pay the bills.” Tell Your Story in THREE MODULES. HAVE: Beginning / Middle / End of Each Module MODULE A – My Background I was born and raised in Chicago on the Southside. De Los Santos means “Of the Saints.” But I wasn’t a saint. Girl Gangs and bad assess Was my thing. NOT. I was a geek. I got a job as a secretary and realized my life was bigger than my ‘hood.’ I worked my way through college working as a DJ. My short film won awards. I worked at a B+B prod co.
MODULE B – My Work Experience I worked at B+B for three years as an assistant. But I wanted to write. I wrote a pilot “Girls Against Gangs.” Loaded up my car and moved to Beverly Hills. I sold the idea to Sony TV. It didn’t get made. But I had to stick it out. I worked at Blumhouse Productions on The Purge. Then, I wrote a story for Disney – their first “Latina Digital Series.”
MODULE C – My Current Work Experience Currently, I’m staff writer on “East Los High.” I want to be a staff writer on Jessica Jones. .
SAMPLE EVETTE VARGAS PITCH My Background Hi. I’m Evette Vargas, I write character-driven high-concept material with deep, rich mythologies. I’m like the Latina Damon Lindelof. Thematically, I write underdog and fish-out-of-water stories -- in genres like action, thriller, crime, sci-fi, magical realism and dramedy with a “Puerto Rican from the Bronx” POV. I grew up with three brothers, the Lover, the Fighter, the Jock. And quickly learned to tell stories LOUDLY at the dinner table where the imagination ruled. My incredibly supportive parents moved us to a New Jersey suburb where we were the only Latinos in the county. We won over the neighbors with our salsa dancing and our STORIES. Which were different than theirs. I grew up drawing, painting and writing short stories. I went to FIT for graphic design and interactive. Then transferred to NYU Tisch on a scholarship. My short film won the best of NYU, got me lot of buzz & got me to LA. My Work Experience With my interactive skills, I worked at all the digital departments at the studios -Universal, Sony, Disney. Then, my husband and I founded Digital-Reign, an award-winning multiplatform production company. We create digital and Virtual Reality content. For brands, like FAST & FURIOUS, LORD OF THE RINGS, Madonna. But I can’t legally talk about her. I had gotten away from telling my own stories and I went to UCLA grad school, where I studied Screenwriting and Television Show-running to learn TV. Recently, I Executive Produced, wrote and directed my digital series, DARK PROPHET, a sci-fi action thriller starring Henry Rollins. It premiered at Sundance, is available on Amazon Prime, and was nominated for two Emmys in the Interactive Category. I lost to GAME OF THRONES, but I can live with that. My Current Work Experience I recently sold a show to Turner Broadcasting Super Deluxe. I’m writing the pilot which they’re producing. I’m also developing my Dark Prophet Virtual Reality Series, which will premiere on the Sony PlayStation VR. I’m a self-motivated writer, director, producer and multiplatform storyteller. My daily hustle is about running my own shows and staffing. There’s a lot I can contribute as well as learn from a great show-runner. Fun Facts About Me I kick box, collect action figures, typewriters, shoes. I have past lives as a DJ, a fashion designer and am a recovering NYC Ad Agency Art Director
