OLIVIA CULPO MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY FACE
It is time for Fall, and with that you want to be ready for going back to school, starting a new job, and class reunions. Enhance the looks you have gained all year at the gym with procedures designed to showcase your face and body.
Many procedures that people choose to have in the Fall get them ready for school and other important events. People tend to start wearing longer sleeves and other clothing associated with Fall fashion, but still want the confidence to look and feel good.
People focus more on facial surgery during the Fall because they are no longer exposed to the constant sun as they are in the Summer. Facelifts are popular, as they can help to restore lost volume and improve the contours of the face. Other non-invasive methods, such as Botox and fillers, can help to correct wrinkles and smooth out the folds of the face. Tummy tucks and liposuction to the abdomen and waist are popular among everyone wanting a slimmer mid-section. Many women also choose to have fat transfer to the buttocks to restore volume and shape to this area.
About the surgeon: Dr. Josef Hadeed is a double board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. LADIES, As of this printing, Lapalme Magazine is officially three years old. Watching any book reaching this kind of milestone is amazing and what a ride it has been. This one is no exception. Our team has never worked harder to put together a book we can be proud of. We are always striving to bring out the best in each other, and that carries over into the articles and talent we cover in the magazine. We are proud to feature Actress, Model, Television Personality, accomplished cellist and beauty queen Olivia Culpo. Olivia just so happened to win the Miss USA 2012 pageant, representing my home state of Rhode Island. Her tenacity for being fashion forward and outspoken has made her an international star. No doubt we will be seeing bigger and better things from her as her star continues to rise. We ask our readers the question “Who is Sophie Beem?” We wanted to find out for ourselves as Beauty Editor Dillon Peña spent some time with Beyonce’s seventeen year old protegé. With an album out very soon and already on a major tour, Beem will be a household name in no time. For those on the fashion week circuit, our team has put together a compehensive list of their favorite places to eat, shop and stay during fashion week including who you might bump into while there. I Dream of Malta by our Creative Director Derek Warburton and Food and Culture Editor Dawn Garcia, has been one of my favorite articles to work on for this book. The breadth of culture and history of the Island nation intertwined with the relaxed manner and lifestyle of the population is a breath of fresh air.

HOW TO ACHIEVE THAT
HOLLY WOOD SMILE NEW YORK CITY’S DR. SHAWN SADRI DMD TALKS COSMETIC AND GENERAL DENTISTRY
LAPALME MAGAZINE: What is the myth behind the Hollywood smile? SHAWN SADRI: Everyone wants a beautiful, perfect smile --they just don’t know how to achieve that. After their first visit, they realize they need to basically take care of the health of their teeth. They need to make sure they don’t have cavities and have proper gum work. Most of the time, people expect or want the quick fix, whitening, or slapping some veneers on --then you get a beautiful smile. We are just not about that. LM: So, is it about the health of your mouth firsT? SS: First, floss twice and brush at least two or three times a day. You need to floss at least once a day. Good dental health is the first step to achieving the Hollywood Smile --that includes discussing whitening or maybe veneers, depending on your desired results. If you don’t take care of your dental health first, your aesthetic work, like veneers, may look nice on the outside but underneath your teeth may be full of cavities and tooth decay.
LM: What’s the number one thing people want when they come in? SS: Whitening. They want to have white teeth, but they still want to drink their coffee and red wine. They want a quick fix. If you want white teeth, you might have to drink coffee through a straw, drink red wine with a straw, cut back on tea. It’s something you have to do to always have white teeth, instead of having veneers put on. LM: Great celebrity smiles, how do you tell who has great work done? SS: A great smile doesn’t look like it’s had cosmetic work done. Scarlett Johansson has a really nice smile. It looks very natural. It could be natural. We don’t really know, and that’s the beauty of it. For the Hollywood Smile, you don’t want big, white Chiclets, obviously. People would know you have veneers, and you don’t want people to look at you and know you had work done. You want it to look like porcelain, like a piano with a white keyboard. A good job is that there’s no difference from the porcelain, whereas a bad job looks like chalk.
SS: In our office, when new patients come in, we do a full exam, x-rays, photos, which is really important. If we are doing a makeover, we talk with the patient about what they are trying to achieve and give them that. We’ll take photos and impressions before we start. Then, we’ll ask them what they’re looking for and communicate this with the lab. Then we shape the teeth, mold some temporary veneers, make sure they are happy with that and make the necessary adjustments. Then, we can go through the final part: the porcelain veneers. Most clients are happy because there is communication between the whole lab, the patient, and me --the doctor. Connect on Social Media: Ins tagram.com/DrShawnSadri www.DrShawnSadri.com, www. CREATIVE DIRECTOR DEAR LADIES, To say that I am excited about this new issue would be an understatement. We have been finding our way and figuring out who we really want to be and now I feel like we are on to something. Without making any grand statements, I am proclaiming this the LAPALME beauty issue. It certainly didn’t start out that way but as we started developing the talent, working with our travel pieces and following the glitterati, I can frankly say it is our most beautiful issue yet. Let’s start with our cover. Olivia Culpo is one of the most beautiful, sweet and intelligent “celebrities” I have ever worked with. We were lucky enough to work with world renowned photographer Matthew Scrivens for our cover shoot. Mr. Scrivens was a Creative Director for Armani and has helped launch careers of many superstars. He was a natural fit to shoot Olivia. She was wonderful from the first moment and the results are LAPALME’s best cover shoot yet. We are also lucky enough to be working with another star, in the making. Sophie Beam, shot by the talented Christopher Logan, is Beyonce’s new protege. Our beauty editor Dillon Pena, who actually works with Beyonce as her makeup artist worked with Christopher to capture this young singer. The photos are cool, casual and show off Sophie’s edge. Sophie opens for Beyonce this fall in Milan and I am sure we will be seeing more from her. Another great thing of beauty in the new issue is my own excursion to the ancient island of Malta. I was recently invited by the tourism bureau of Malta (www.visitmalta.com) to enjoy five, action-packed days on the small island in the Mediterranean. The generous British Airways flew me business class to Malta, where I stayed in the most gorgeous suite at the Corinthia Palace. I laughed, I cried from laughing and had the time of my life. All I can say about the entire experience is that it was enchanting. Read my diary on page........ You will see why Malta will always be a part of me. I hope that my take on the island encourages you to want to visit and love it as much as I do.

Seventeen-year-old pop singer-songwriter Sophie Beem comes with a few famous seals of approval. Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, and the other X Factor judges gave her the first big break of her career at the tender age of 13. However, Beems dreams of superstardom faded when she failed to make it to the top 40.
The teen was born and raised in New York’s Upper East Side and began writing as a form of escapism from her family troubles. Beem boasts a strong vocal range and is also a selftaught guitar and piano player. The teen is one of three acts Beyonce has signed to her newly formed Parkwood Entertainment record label in 2015. Reports claim sisters Chloe, 17, and Halle Bailey, 15, were snapped up to Parkwood along with Ingrid Burley and Beem. Sophie is already in the studio finishing up her self-titled debut album. Meanwhile, Beem has collaborated on a new single with artist Fetty Wap, Opened for Charlie Puth on his current North American tour, has her song Girls featured in the movie Bad Moms and just booked a prime spot on the annual Made In America festival, courtesy of JayZ. She has the utmost respect for her mentor Beyonce, once telling Tidal: “I have the most talented female artist in the music industry as my mentor and teacher, like, it could not get any better than that. I still pinch myself everyday! One thing she taught me is her best-kept secret to performing: To run and sing on a treadmill daily. It builds your stamina so you can sing and dance at the same time.” Her biggest dream is to one day sell out New York’s Madison Square Garden. Space needed Beem is poised to have a very big 2016. THE SKIES THE LIMIT The Art of Flying celebrates the golden past and the dream of luxury air travel today.
Take a journey through a world where air travel epitomizes glitz and glamour being the symbol of exclusivity and success. Beginning with the jet age of the 1940s and 1950s, air travel has been at the forefront of technology, culture, and luxury. The Art of Flying explores its fascinating evolution, curating a vibrant cultural history from the midtwentieth century to the present. From technological developments such as pressurized cabins and the Concorde to the flair of custom crew uniforms by renowned designers including Dior, Emilio Pucci, and Moncler, as well as its interplay with architecture and art, air travel throughout history has been at once a reflection of its time and a symbol of the cutting edge.
writer
NIDHI MOHAN The Art of Flying is available for purchase at ASSOULINE boutiques worldwide and through www.assouline.com.
22
In partnership with VistaJet and lavishly illustrated with over seven decades of imagery. Josh Condon’s The Art of Flying tells the story of commercial aviation, from its belt and braces beginnings to today’s fractionally owned fleet of sleek private machines, circling the globe 24/7 to power business and entertainment. Drawing on a rich seam of archive imagery – including a captivating cover by cover artist and illustrator Jean-Philippe Delhomme, the book revisits the classic chic of 1930s glamour, when flying meant a head for adventure as well as heights, through to the heady swirls and miniskirts of the pop-infused 60s and the more radical future concepts that continue to tantalise.
23
This is the story of glamour lost then found, with an eye for the details: like Olympic Airways’ ten-course meal, or Air India’s elaborate Maharajah service, complete with gold-bedecked 747s. The aircraft’s allure as a platform for art, fashion, architecture and design continues to entice creative collaboration and bold new ideas.

Since the birth of passenger air travel, airlines have celebrated the glamour of flying. —Josh Condon
One would have thought that the act of aircraft chartering wouldn’t need much to spice it up, but in truth even this most high-end mode of travel was suffering from being sliced and diced to endear it to accountants and shareholders, stripping away the veneer of sophistication and replacing it with a sheen of unquestionable efficiency. This unashamedly aspirational book celebrates the best of life in the air.

MORE THAN JUST A PRETTY FACE Interview by:
DAWN GARCIA

Olivia Culpo may very well be one of the most beautiful women in the world but she also happens to be highly intelligent, incredibly business savvy, talented, funny and someone who embodies making her voice count. At 24 years-old, she has accomplished what some only dream of with Miss Rhode Island, Miss USA and Miss Universe under her belt, world travel, philanthropy, and being an accomplished cellist. While she has been in the news and all over the fashion scene as of late as the new face of RAMPAGE, she’s joined forces with the NFL to make women’s sportswear fashion forward, has landed another lead role in an upcoming feature film, and spends her time changing the world … literally. Olivia is not another pretty face. In fact, she is so much more so we sat down with her to explore the many sides of her life and career. LAPALME MAGAZINE: You recently became the face of RAMPAGE. What has been the most exciting experience so far? OLIVIA CULPO: All of it! It’s been incredible to be a part of a brand I wore all the time when I was growing up. I’m honored to be involved. LM: Do you have a favorite piece? OC: I love the denim dress! It’s great for fall as a transitional piece, cool enough to get away with in summer, and you can dress it up.

LM: We wanted to talk about some of the philanthropic work you’re doing. We saw that you are the Global Ambassador now for Pencils of Promise and a Spokesperson for HIV/AIDS awareness. How did you get involved and what are some of your goals for the organizations over the next year?
I would love to go to Tulum. It looks so beautiful and I definitely want to stay in one of the villas on the water. That’s a dream!
OC: I started working with Pencils of Purpose at the beginning 2015. I took my first trip to Guatemala to see all of their schools and sites that they built and I even got to help build a school. It’s one of the best experiences ever. I hope to visit more of their schools and help any way I can. HIV/AIDS awareness was the platform for Miss Universe so I was fortunate enough to get involved with them that way, hearing stories and meeting so many people that are instrumental in raising awareness including those that have been affected by it. My own personal goal is to continue working with humanitarian organizations all over the world. Speaking to that platform is very special to me.
OC: When I come home, we all do a bunch of cooking. I come from a big Italian family so I invite my friends over and we make calzones and pizzas. We have a pizza oven and my favorite thing to make is actually a breakfast pizza. It has cheese, oil, pepper, 4 eggs cooked perfectly on top and then add avocado. It’s so good!!
LM: Your approach to empowering women is admirable. You are making such a strong statement about beauty being more about how you can make a difference in the world than it is about appearance. What women have inspired you? OC: So many women inspire me. Throughout my life I have been incredibly fortunate to meet powerful, amazing women. I really admire Jessica Alba, Victoria Beckham, Rachel Zoe. They have great careers, are moms and are successful at balancing the two. That said, I have to say my greatest admiration is for Audrey Hepburn. She was classically beautiful, her style was timeless and transcended over the years and she did so much for people and children. She started UNICEF in hopes of ending starvation and poverty. I really want to make a difference and have a voice that helps facilitate that. LM: You’ve traveled the world. What is one of the favorite places you’ve been and where would you love to go that you haven’t been? OC: I’d have to say the greatest place of impact for me was going to India. It’s by far my favorite trip. I love the culture, the people, the vibrant colors plus I am a big fan of Indian food! It was incredible being there in such a huge country with so many people and so much going on. It was eye opening to work with the people there and really beautiful.
30
LM: We read that you love to cook. What’s your favorite dish to make?
LM: Tell us about being among the female celebrity ambassadors for the NFL Women’s Collection. OC: They approached us for this collaboration. I was excited to put my personal flair on sportswear, supporting my favorite teams. I chose things that can be cute when dressed up. It’s been cool to see what the other girls came up with and after seeing Keke’s (Palmer) really comfy, loungy clothes, I’m a bit envious of hers! LM: How do you stay grounded? OC: I always come back to my roots and to my home town. I try to come home to Rhode Island, see my friends and my family often. Lucky for me I can take advantage of being on both coasts and see them a lot which I’m so grateful for. I grew up with two sisters and two brothers that I’m really close to. And, in January next year, my dad, cousin and I are opening a Restaurant near my home town called “Back 40” which I’m really excited about! LM: In 15 years, if you can imagine looking back on what you’ve accomplished, what do you hope to see? OC: I hope I have a sense of accomplishment and perspective to see what I’ve accomplished and really appreciate that. I don’t want to be someone wanting more and more. I would love to look back and say I did enough. There is so much I’m passionate about and as I get older, I hope to use my voice to speak about things that are personal to me. I want to impact people and hopefully make a difference.

LM: What’s next? OV: I’m excited that now people can shop my looks for less from my Instagram which links to my online platform www.swavy.com/s/ olivia-culpo. It’s so hard finding clothes that make you feel good about yourself and I think everyone should feel good with whatever they wear. I love being a part of helping them feel confident in their choices. Also, in October I’m shooting a movie, launching a fashion campaign and then NYFW will be the next big thing I’m gearing up for. LM: Lastly, what is your guilty pleasure and what is something your fans would be surprised to know about you? OC: I love ice cream! Mint chocolate chip, cookie dough or anything involving peanut butter!! Something they don’t know? I’m goofy. It’s hard to show that side of me in pictures but anyone who knows me knows how goofy I can be. Thanks to Olivia for taking the time to give us a look into her life in front of and behind the camera. WINE DOWN IN
Wines by the glass that take you on a sipping adventure
Wine is one of those beautiful elements that harmoniously brings nature to the forefront of our palate. Vintners carefully plant their vines, patiently harvest their grapes, and pluck the plump green or purple varietals taking them on a journey that sometimes takes years to make its way to the bottle. While the world consists of countless wineries, varying blends, and regions that span the globe, finding unique wines available by the glass when we venture out? That’s a bit of a challenge. We decided to make your search a lot easier. Like any metropolitan city, Los Angeles has more restaurants than we can keep up with. Now, introduce wine bars strategically placed throughout the city and what you have is a bit of a conundrum. Where oh where to go? We came up with a few options that will take you on a wine tasting adventure. From new and interesting to biodynamic to Master Sommelier approved, we put together a list of three newly implemented LA wine programs designed just for you!
36
While there are plenty more restaurants + wine bars with phenomenal options available by the glass like Augustine Wine Bar, Barbrix, Terrine, and Bar Covell, the three we’ve chosen to feature are new to Angelenos and we’re all about that. So wherever you may go for your accompanying glass of vino, go with an open mind and an insatiable thirst. Cheers

PRICE PER GLASS: $12-$59 (the $59 glass being a 1971 Madeira) RESERVATIONS: 71Above.com PHOTO CREDIT: Wonho Frank Lee
Recently opened in mid-July, the much anticipated restaurant owned by Emil Eyvazoff sits gallantly on the 71st floor of LA’s most notable skyscraper (the US Bank building). There, Chef Vartan Abgaryan leads a culinary team to bring Angelenos flavorful, unforgettable fare with a breathtaking view while pastry chef, Gregory Baumgartner pleases your sweet tooth with gluttonous gratitude. Among a menu of cuisine that combines texture, ingredients and visual splendor, exists a wine list that sets itself apart. Curated by Master Sommelier, Reggie Narito and implemented by Sommelier Catherine Morel, diners are privy to some rather sensational wines by the glass. While you can find everything from Brut to Tempranillo to Malbec to Cab, you’ll also find a Canard-Duchene Brut Champagne, 2014 Chappelet Mountain Cuvée from Napa, and a Château Larribotte Sauternes from Bordeaux that will brighten up your palate and ease you into sensual sips. Every wine available by the glass is instrumental in accompanying your dishes – dishes that will invite you into Chef Vartan’s fanciful world of authentic fare derived from his imagination and out of his respect for the ingredients themselves. Much like the cuisine, the wines are incomparable. The Champagne is nothing short of perfection, blowing others out of the water in terms of elements of bright fruit and a beautiful finish (it gets better with every sip!). The Mountain Cuvée is, without question, the finite, bold red you long for with the elegance you come to expect from Napa winemakers. The Sauternes however is a delightful virtuosic finish to a meal well worth experiencing. What Narito has done is present you with wines that envelop your palate and take you on a journey. Reservations Required.

While the menu is meager for meat lovers and instead entirely vegan and vegetarian (with the exception of occasional egg dish), the Springs is a welcomed addition to the culinary depth that finds itself at the forefront of LA. The food is some of the most beautifully composed vegetarian dishes I’ve had, thanks to Chef Jasmine Shimoda. She’s incredible! That said, the Springs LA also happen to be one of the few (if not only) restaurants with a Golden Hour that features biodynamic wines curated by Max Gustashaw! Sure, biodynamic sounds a little odd but truth be told, these wines are organic, sustainable, vegan and harvested with the environment in mind. There are vast selections to choose from but there are two that really stood out: 2008 Hartweg Gewurztraminer Cuvée Prestige and Beck + Clos De L’Elu Indigene, a Gamay and Grolleau blend. The Gewurztraminer is crisp with traces of rosé, beginning with a tale that tastes like it comes from your grandma’s fruit orchard. It is pure and easy and an honest-to-goodness wine that crosses over between a red and white grape. The grape is utilized in every way right down to the skin and it tastes a bit like joy in a cup with a citrus finish. The Indigene, grown in Anjou, is big and full of wild herbaceousness and berry-forward notes we love to nurse. Both go flawlessly with the menu. The Golden Hour is available every weekday from 4-8pm.

With eight varietals of bubbles by the glass alone, you know from the onset someone has thought about your experience. Sommelier, Laurie Sutton, recently the recipient of Wine Spectator’s “Award of Excellence”, created a menu of wines that take you out of the norm and invite you into a global range of sips that you may or may never have heard of and that makes us happy. While their reds, whites, and rosés are certainly notable (and under $25 per glass), we wanted to focus in on those champagnes and sparkling wines. What makes this list unique is that you don’t see the standard Veuve Clicquot or Möet, in fact they aren’t even on the list. What is? Heidisieck-Monopole Brut Champagne, Henriot “Souverin” Brut Champagne, Faire la Fete Brut NV, Baracchi Brut Rosé, Roederer Estate Brut NV, Shramsberg Brut Rosé, Mionetto Prosecco and Honey Bubbles Sparkling Muscat NV. It is, by every account, a wide range of tastes from dry to sweet without ever assuming you aren’t open-minded nor taking your sophistication for granted. The regions represented range from Champagne to New Mexico and we love that Sutton challenges us to try something new. So while you find yourself in one of SoCal’s most impressive seascapes in the prestigious and beautiful city of Malibu, you can settle in and enjoy a truly wonderful glass of bubbles!

APRÈS SOLEIL FIGHT THOSE FREE RADICALS THIS FALL Dr. Kelly Bender of Pure Vitality Center suggests taking action against sun damage two ways; outside the body and inside. Fruits are plentiful during the summer for good reason, they are naturally full of vitamins and anti-oxidants to help balance out the sun damage. Incorporating them into your diet as well as using products that contain them is a great way to combat sun damage! The sun can cause free radicals, little balls of energy that go around damaging cells and DNA. Vitamin C can not only stop them but can repair a lot of the damage done to skin because it builds collagen and connective tissue in addition to being a powerful antioxidant. purevitalitycenter.com CURATED BY

I DREAM OF MALTA A TRAVEL DIARY
First and foremost I must say that I knew of Malta as this beautiful place somewhere in the Mediterranean but I wasn’t entirely sure where this tiny paradise was on a map! Invited to be a guest last winter, I finally said YES! As we come into the fourth double-sides issue of LAPALME, the time was right to start exploring the world again. written by

Thankfully British Airways graciously offered to host my trip from LAX to Heathrow. It’s well worth noting their One World Lounge at LAX is one to experience! Come thirsty, hungry and ready to be pampered with Elemis spa. After a wonderful flight, they had a car waiting to take me to Gatwick for the second leg of my trip. I flew first class from there to Malta. The minute I stepped outside, the air smelled different. It was a balmy Mediterranean night like something in a movie. White lacquered Charriot luggage in hand, I see a vintage silver Rolls Royce waiting to greet me (compliments of the hotel for VIP Guests), a representative from Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa (www.corinthia.com), and a driver. For all that know and follow LAPALME, vintage luxury cars are a passion of ours. After a quick but gorgeous drive, we arrive at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa where I welcomed by the hotel staff and my new best friends, Charles Borg and Ron Van Maarschalkerweerd. Charles and Ron are Malta’s premier fashion designers, with a beautiful store at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa and a flagship store in Malta’s captial city, Valletta. They welcomed me with open arms and a fabulous gift bag! We all headed to the Caprice Lounge for what would become my new favorite cocktail: Aperol spritzer.
DAY ONE
The Corinthia Palace suite is divine: two bedrooms with a stone terrace and tonight the view is of the night sky glittering with starlight. Much like the charm of Malta, the Corinthia is steeped in history and luxury. There is an ancient chicness to it all. As morning comes, I sit and stare out at the divine pool, airy and vast, with bright blue lounge chairs matching the blue of the water. Off to shoot the online editorial, I meet Charles, Ron, their design assistant and photographer, Carlton Aquis in the lobby. Charles and Ron bring their fall line (they have shops in Corinthia and one in Valletta) and two models. After a fun shoot in the 95 degree heat with 100% humidity (felt that way), we all graciously sip on a Maltese rosÊ and head back to the hotel for siesta. I will say, siestas are the way to a happy and healthy life, I learned that while here. Late adventurous nights require a well rested person! Our evening included a wonderful dinner at Palazzo Preca in the heart of Valletta. Plates of pastas, sea bass, and a burrata salad that melted in our mouths. Maltese cuisine is not only fresh, it is simple so the aromas and ingredients aren’t lost allowing you to really enjoy the cuisine.
DAY TWO
Cascading down the stairs, I am greeted by private guide Clive Cortis, a handsome and quirky man. Clive quickly becomes the reason for so many belly laughs while in Malta. We are joined by photographer Martin Bonnici, a man who is a professional fighter as well as the man behind the lens. One thing I’m learning is that in Malta, much like in the US, everyone seems has multiple jobs; true Rennaissance men! The photoshoot today consists of multiple locations: The Grand Harbor which is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It acted as a natural fortress during years of defending itself from hostile takeover from neighboring countries. It’s beauty is unparalleled much like the contrasting doorways blistering in color set against the stone lining the city. As we walked for miles, we came upon St. John’s Cathedral. A breathtaking cathedral designed with gold and picturesque murals. Following, the Marquis de Piro took us on a private tour of the palazzino that has been in his family for centuries. My favorite room was the dining room and a portrait of his parents at the Queen’s coronation. Next stop is the city of Medina for a hearty lunch. Martin then surprised me with a horse drawn carriage to take me through the tiny streets of the city. It seems a magical place as if behind every door exists a hidden palace. I managed to steer my way through the city with no problems. Time for siesta before a dinner. Michelle Buttigieg, Representative for the Malta Tourism Authority in New York arranged dinner with Jim Dunn and Arthur Whieldon; a lovely couple at their 4-story, enchanting home in Cospicua. We had cocktails on the rooftop before heading into the study for a spontaneous photoshoot. We headed down for dinner with a menu of traditional Maltese food curated by their chef where I am in the company of incredible guests including Stephen Cordina who gifted me with his homemade candles and diffusers.
DAY THREE
Stephen treats me to a visit of Gozo on his yacht! We meet Stephen at his yacht he also uses for tuna fishing, his other job. Clive and Martin joins us as we are whisked away on the Maltese waters. Our tour consists of a stop at one of the oldest sites known to man, the Mnajdra temple. Clive tells us stories with passion and grand hand gesturing that keeps us all smiling and laughing. Next is the Azure Window in Dwejra Bay. I may love the dramatic, but the grandness of this made my jaw drop. I must have taken over one hundred photos! In a sea of people, I felt like I was the only one there, overcome by it’s grandure. Joined by the owner of Hush Photographer, Matt, we took more photos amidst the backdrop capturing every moment. Moments I never want to forget! We charter a car and head to the Citadel as Stephen tells us the story of the city before stopping at Rodrigo’s, a famous eatery where Rodrigo himself was there. Their homemade cheeses, breads and ravioli were incredible. We all head back and siesta ensues. Today is Sunday Funday and the evening would certainly live up to the name! Accompanied by Charles, Ron and Zvetlanda Galea, the wife of a well known Marketing Director of the Ibizia-inspired outdoor discoteque, Café del Mar. With a backdrop of the coast and a grand pool, the live music, sunset and flowing champagne beckoned us all …
DAY FOUR
My last full day in Malta and a celebration of my birthday! I slept in, soaking up the sun on the terrace, heading out for a swim in the pool. Mid-day, I join Charles and Carlton for a shoot in the Presidential Garden adjacent to the Corinthia Palace. Carlton then takes me to Valletta for cocktails and fabulous shopping. While the city is rich in history, there are modern touches that remind me of home. The evening to follow is one that is so very special! The Corinthia Palace Hotel chef, Jonathan Zammitt along with the staff prepared a feast for my new friends and I to celebrate another year of life. Hosted by Corinthia Palace’s General Manager, David Woodward, we dined in the ballroom, where Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain attended a banquet during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta. Cuisine of rabbit, pastas and impeccable cheeses, every bite can be summarized with two words: food porn. For dessert, a chocolate cake so rich and decadent, every foodie I know would have savored every last bite! The cusine was unforgettable but it’s my new friends that made this so memorable. It was an extraordinary evening and a befitting end to this beautiful experience.
DAY FIVE
Waking up to glorious room service in my stunning Corinthia Palace suite, I reflect on my Maltese adventure. I know life will be all the more rich because of this experience. I’ve seen things I never imagined, met people I will never forget, and celebrated my birthday in paradise. Thank you to the Bradford Group, Visit Malta, the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa, British Airways and the people of Malta who are so kind, generous, and full of life, I am forever changed.
