VW’s CC goes Blue Volkswagen’s CC (or Comfort Coupe) has not been left astray of the marque’s engine upgrade path. VW’s endeavours across all its models and engine range towards lower carbon emissions, along with matching or more power, is the underlying reasoning behind the upgrade, most notable on the new spec 2.0-litre TDI, which is now offered with BlueMotion Technology within its workings. The 125kW, 350Nm model is the only one offering a Start-Stop system with Energy recuperation components as well. As a result, the new claimed combined fuel consumption is 5.5-litres/100m with carbon emissions at 144 g/km. These figures are around 10% less than those on the outgoing TDI engine and meet EU5 regulations.
The latest incarnation of VW’s famed TSI engine finds its way into the CC as well in the form of a 155kW, 280Nm 4-cylinder unit using 7.3-litres/100km (171g/km) on the 6-speed manual version, and 7.8 litres for the 6-speed DSG version (182g/km), both meeting EU5 standards as well. These figures are cleaner and more frugal across the board when compared to the outgoing engines and will send the CC in either transmission option from zero to 100km/h in 7.6 seconds. The top speed has improved to 240 km/h (Manual) and 238 km/h (DSG). The 3.6 FSI V6 engine on the CC remains unchanged, which also features 4Motion four-wheel drive, VW’s DSG gearbox and a healthy 220kW and 350Nm of torque. At 9.5-litres/100km and 219g/km, the V6 CC meets EU4 emissions standards.
Perhaps this latest breath of fresh air into the CC range will hopefully attract more buyers towards what is actually a very good looking, classy coupe that is priced very competitively as well. Added to this are some good practicality figures such as 532 litres of luggage space, an optional five-person seating arrangement and all the expected luxury features of a top spec VW. The full CC range comes with VW’s 5 year/100 000km Automotion Maintenance Plan, a 3 year/120 000km warranty, a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty and require 15 000km service intervals. Pricing starts at R363 300 for the 2.0 TDI BlueMotion Highline DSG, R370 950 and R385 450 for the 2.0 TSI Highline (manual or DSG) and R469 406 for the 3.6 FSI 4Motion Sportline DSG. - Kevin Willemse
