Hello, my name is Kevin Mowatt. I am a recent graduate of Morgan State University’s Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design program. I have always had the love of design and believe that architecture, in particular, has been a vital part of life as we know it today. Everything that is created I feel is in some sense architecture. The main purpose and best representations of it are cases that provoke emotions through the appearances they present in addition to how one physically feels to be in that creation. I hope to do exactly that in the future with my designs and it begins here. This is a collection of my work during the Bachelor program (Fall 2014 - Spring 2018). Photoshop

Multi-Use Highrise For the “Multi-Use Highrise project, we took more than half the semester to create the best mixed-use highrise we could. The site of the project was located in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, Maryland in the parking lot between East Pratt, South Commerce, East Lombard and South Street. We performed a couple of site analysis trying to find ways in which we could make our highrise successful in that location. The highrise was to be made with for people in the upper-income bracket in mind; people who annual income exceeds about a million. It was required to have a mix of rooftop suites and one, two and three bedrooms units totaling 200 units. That along with exercise suites, a swimming area, restaurant, offices, and retail shops. We had to consider zoning and building codes, parking, restrooms, elevators, escalators, and exterior and interior building materials and finishes as well.

City Block: Generative Design In the “City Block: Generative Design“ project, I was required to working in a group with three other students. We was to compose a complete urban block of housing using the design of the rowhouses or apartments we made from the previous project. We coordinated the organization of the site among all members and had to modify our original prototypes to suit the needs of the site. We also had to really focus on the facades and outdoor spaces as it had to relate to the site orientation and things around it.

Urban Hybrid Housing Types In the “Urban Hybrid Housing Types“ project, I was required to work with one other person to explore a creative solution for low-density urban housing using a hybrid of rowhouses and the lowrise apartments. We explored the possibilities and came up with a hybrid housing type that combined features of both using the criteria of - 12 units (1,0001,500SF), targets various users Townhouse / Apartment hybrids (2-3 bedrooms), a central courtyard, commercial and common spaces, along with the 12 parking spaces for the units.

Youth Baseball Academy In the “Youth Baseball Academy“ project, we had to create an academy for the Sandtown-Winchester area in Baltimore. I figured baseball is a past time many of us grew up with. It was how some of us began developing skill physically, like throwing and catching, and mentally, like teamwork and critical thinking, that could later branch out to other areas outside the sport. With The Diamond, I want the facility itself to cover those areas and do the same for anyone that enters. Playing off the importance of the number three in baseball, (Outs, innings, basemen, etc.) I wanted it to be the form for my facility dissecting it into three areas, one to play, one to learn and one to observe. In each, users will learn and build upon important skills ultimately improving their lives.

Using the blocks between W Lafayette Ave, Shields Pl, W Lanvale, and Pennsylvania Ave, the facility is flanked by a little league sized field along with plaza areas. The northern area of the building is the first of 3 zones “Learn”. It contains the classrooms, offices and conference room. The zone below it is “Play” featuring the lockerrooms, field area, and gym. The final zone “Observe” is outdoor from the building itself. It is made up of bleacher style terraces that provide views to field and plaza while also allowing a walkable area underneath.

Logo Design Deriving from all of the skills and techniques I’ve gained in my four-year undergraduate in architecture, graphic design felt like a next step in expressing creative ideas. Logo Design, in particular, caught my attention because I feel it is the most important kind of graphic as It is the face of a brand. This day in age, everyone could be their own brand or company simply by creating a following on social media. Well made logos will make people initially remember those companies or brands.
