Only a character like this can take on so many different roles. Levi Agee plays a thousand parts: animator, editor, designer, amateur stand-up comedian, husband, dad, and character-actor. But his role as programmer and ambassador for our favorite film festival makes us especially proud. Great work, Levi. Now go get some sleep.

8th ANNUAL

LITTLE ROCK FILM FESTIVAL

OPENING NIGHT FILM

HAPPY VALLEY

Director: Amir Bar-Lev Golden Rock Documentary: 100 MIN CALS Ron Robinson Theater: Mon, May 12 7:30pm

The town of State College, home to Penn State University, lies at the heart of an area known as Happy Valley. Its iconic figure for more than 40 years Joe Paterno, the head coach of the school’s football team, took on mythic national stature as ‘Saint Joe.’ But in November 2011, everything came crashing down when former Assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky was charged with child sex abuse. Filmed over the course of the year after Sandusky’s arrest, Amir Bar-Lev creates a parable of guilt, responsibility, and identity for a small town caught in the glare of the national spotlight.

THE DIAMOND STATE X MUSIC REVUE ADAM FAUCETT

The Arkansas born and bred Adam Faucett is most known for his powerful, almost operatic voice and intricate fingerpicking. A true road runner, Adam has been steady criss-crossing the country for six years in support of his three albums, sharing the stage with the likes of Lucero, Calexico, The Legendary Shack Shakers, Vetiver, Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music, Damien Jurado, Elf Power and Malcom Holcombe. Faucett’s latest release, Blind Water Finds Blind Water, is out now on Little Rock’s own Last Chance Records.

AMOS COCHRAN

Amos Cochran is an American musician and award-winning composer for film, theater, and television, possessing a 2010 Kennedy Center Excellence in Composing award. Growing up, Cochran played Bass and Piano in Jazz, Rock, and Experimental bands in his home town of Fayetteville, Arkansas. In 2011, he scored his first Arkansas film, The Orderly, directed by Daniel Campbell, which won the Charles B. Pierce Award at the Little Rock Film Festival. Amos continued on to score many Arkansas films including The Bloodstone Diaries, Calamari Sunset pt IV, Death of a Super Hero, Mary, The Discontentment of Ed Telfair, 45RPM, Champion Trees, Strangers, and Valley Inn.

BONNIE MONTGOMERY

Arkansas born and bred Bonnie Montgomery is a classically trained composer and opera singer by day and country queen by night. Bringing her raucous spin on traditional southern music to honky-tonks throughout the U.S. and Europe, Bonnie’s catalog hails from a place where outlaw country saddles up with Americana and folk.

FOLIAGE

Relatively new to the Little Rock music scene, Foliage combines the harmony and improvisational approach of modal jazz with the intensity and syncopated textures of drum and bass.

JOSHUA ASANTE

Musician, photographer, a sometimes poet; art informs most aspects of Joshua Asante’s life. Joshua is a guitarist and lead vocalist for two bands, Velvet Kente and Amasa Hines. The latter of two released their first full length album, All The World There Is, to wide spread critical acclaim in early 2014. Whether he is behind a camera lens or onstage with a band, or even alone a poet; the aim remains the same. Clarity, positivity, and ascension through art.

RONDEY BLOCK

Rodney Block, a Dumas native who has been thriving in the local music scene years, is a trumpeter who has performed in various venues across the region, building a niche in the genres of jazz and hip hop. Notable artists he has shared the stage with include Dwele, Jonathan Butler, Dave Hollister, Wynton Marsalis, and Eric Roberson. In 2007, Block’s televised jazz feature, AETN Presents: Front Row with Rodney Block, was nominated for a Regional Emmy. He can often be found performing with his stellar backing unit, The Real Music Lovers.

RUNAWAY PLANET

Founded in 2001, Little Rock bluegrass band Runaway Planet evolved out of a long-time friendship between members and a mutual love for traditional string-band music. Their music is a mix of hard-driving bluegrass, three-part harmonies, complex arrangements and original songs.

WALTER HENDERSON

Walter Henderson, trumpeter, flugel hornist, puccolist and vocalist, is originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. He served with the 60th U.S. Army Band and studied music at Little Rock University and at Governors State University, where he gained popularity with the GSU Jazz Sextet. The group toured Europe, the Far East, and was twice winner of the Notre Dame Col- legiate Jazz Festival. Upon different occasions, he has appeared with Redd Foxx, The Four Tops, and Buddy Guy. He was a principal in the Little Rock Brazilian jazz-pop band, Circo Verde, and in more recent times, plays with such acts as The Funkanites and Amasa Hines.
