FinnFest USA 2013 In 15 Days! From June 19-23, 2013 the Keweenaw Peninsula will be hosting FinnFest USA 2013, a celebration of Finnish and Finnish-American culture and heritage. The five day event will bring thousands of visitors to the area and will feature music, dances, presentations, lectures, historic and cultural tours, and the famous Tori marketplace. Centered at the Student Development Complex at Michigan Tech, there will be events at Finlandia University, throughout Houghton and Hancock, as well as special events and evenings in Calumet, Copper Harbor, and a midsummer “Juhannus” bonfire in Toivola. Special events at this FinnFest include an attempt to break the Guinness World record in Nordic Walking on Saturday June 22, and a one day Education Forum on Wednesday June 19 highlighting Finland’s world-renowned education system. On Wednesday the 19th there will also be the Finnfest USA 2013 Business and Technology Forum aimed at creating business cooperation between Finland and the USA. The opening ceremony will be broadcast live by WLUC TV6 from the Rozsa Center for Performing Arts in Houghton in addition to special segments from the Tori marketplace on Finland Calling with Carl Pellonpaa.
