Insight Natural Resources Day By Don Bigelow Month 2 of the Leadership Keweenaw program started with participants gathering over a quick breakfast meeting at the chamber office. Following breakfast, we carpooled over to the Great Lakes Research Center at Michigan Tech for a fun filled day of leadership exercises, presentations, and also to learn more about our area’s natural resources. The first presentation of the day – Effective Presentation Skills! Cheryl Fahrner of the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce took us through the materials as we learned the value of properly preparing and setting up a presentation so that all participants can get the most out of it. We reviewed several different types of formats and presentation styles so that one can tailor their material effectively for a given audience, subject, or venue. She also gave us some valuable tips on personal presence and how to keep your audience engaged while presenting or giving a speech. Continued on page 5

Our chamber is indebted to Cheryl for the work she has done for our community. From the formation of the Regional Chamber Alliance to the inception of the Leadership Keweenaw program, she has created opportunity for the members of our economy to grow and collaborate. We wish Cheryl the very best of luck in all her future endeavors.
