The Carnival of the Animals illustrated by Satoshi Kitamura A beautifully illustrated picture book and music CD based on one of the most famous pieces of music for children. This magnificent project was inspired by Camille Saint-Saens's famous Carnival of the Animals, one of the most famous pieces of classical music written for children. Combining specially commissioned work by eleven acclaimed modern poets and riotous illustrations by Satoshi Kitamura, this package includes a CD featuring each of the poems read aloud to the corresponding animal music. Let the carnival begin!
The accompanying CD, which has been recorded by the Apollo Chamber Orchestra, features Saint-Saens's music and the newly commissioned poems read by Cicely Herbert and Gerard Benson. Judith Chernaik, Gerard Benson and Cicely Herbert are practising poets and founders of the "Poems on the Underground" scheme which places poetry on London's tube network. The scheme has been adopted in many countries all over the world and has spawned hugely successful books. Satoshi Kitamura is a highly acclaimed illustrator from Tokyo, Japan. He won a Mother Goose Award for the most exciting newcomer to children's book illustration, for Angry Arthur. He now lives in London.
