Immersion studio Literary center interior Throughout the process of Immersion, students explored the complete the design process of creating a literary center for the neighborhood of Clifton, Cincinnati. The literary center process allowed me to learn by iterating, experience, and trial and error. By taking our designs as far through the process, the ten week studio showed students how design grows and cycles through various stages. Staring with an intense ten-hour charrette, inspiration started forming the design of the new center. The dynamic shape of the site inspired the many iterations of the space planning of my building.

Immersion studio Literary center facade One of the primary goals of this “immersion” was to incorporate many courses all geared towards a single design. By doing so, students experienced more aspects of the design development stages to sharpen their iterative skills applied to their field of study. Students worked in different mediums, straying away from the computer screen by beginning with sketches, and contextual photographs while integrating personal designs. Working models showed three-dimensional changes throughout the quarter. After many light studies integrated from an Environmental Technology class a more conscious, passive design was finalized.

Corporate studio Incorporating Brand When developing the profile for the targeted consumer’s, the design started to form around these findings. In addition to the targeted “music fanatic”, Paste Magazine attracts free-spirited, unconventional youth who express themselves through their individuality. Subsequently, it made sense to break the orthogonal grid of the building, as the consumer would avoid the mainstream, default way of approaching ideas. In order to create more dynamic spaces and stay consistent with the consumer’s identity, the grid shifted to face true North, on the downtown Cincinnati’s site.

Corporate studio Collaborative work space By exploring through multi-disciplinary approaches, the main objective of this studio was to create spatial identity in a corporate setting. Students deďŹ ned the meaning of brand by analyzing the employees of the space as well as the users of the brand. Here, in the main oďŹƒce space of Paste, I wanted to create an idea generating space for the employees of the music magazine, Paste Magazine could express multiple personalities, identities, and individuality by providing workers an area for pin-up space and collaborative thoughts. These boards stimulate creativity in the work environment, allowing anyone in the oďŹƒce to share ideas with ease.

Mixed-use studio Church Renovation The second year Interior Design students explore the fields of historical renovation, rehabilitation, and redesign in their 2010 winter quarter project. This proposal and exploration of taking St. John’s church located in Over-the-Rhine in Cincinnati and converting it into a residential and commercial spot for a specific client will be the challenge for this quarter. My client is a lover of wood. Her need for a wood shop in the first level of her home was my inspiration for the floor plan, material palette, and natural connection to the driving concept for this project. To further my parti from wood, I broke down the science of lumber into different scientific layers transferring these concentric circles into the zones of the building and the forms of the plans.

Design lab Dimensional studies These three studies allowed students to further explore the dimensionality of planes, volumes, and combine the two within another object. The planar forms interior and exterior spaces while the solid form explores solid and void creations. The emblematic object embodies both of these explorations, while keeping similar dimensions. However, there was a new dimension added when the materiality changed, creating dynamic views from dierent angles.

Documentation Lab Urban context Perspective This perspective drawing represents the interpretation of an “urban condition�. Findlay Market, located in Cincinnati, represented a space that expresses city life through the gathering of shoppers coming together for goods. Here, the section perspective shows the contrast between the desolate surrounding areas and the central, bustling food market.

Interiors Internship Professional practice skills Samples of the collaborative work produced at my time of HOK show a variety of skills that can only be taught and refined in the work place. Client contact and work at the professional level are two of the most prized skills I learned at my time at HOK. The HOK Directors needed to find the best space for their meeting, held in Chicago for the fall of 2010. This involved many trips around the city, developing plans in Revit, and graphically laying out a presentation for the C.E.O.
The deliverable package for the University of Missouri Health Care System was an intricate process, produced by the collaborative effort of St. Louis and Chicago HOK offices. The client received a series of plans, elevations, art placement tags, as well as furniture legends, specification sheets, and a standards material package. This rendering shows my palette choice for the updated Boys Scout headquarters. Upon the client’s request, I kept the color choice conservative, masculine, and simple. The Interface carpet choice mimics forest floor colors.
