Within three years, he’d led the company to become the largest independent mortgage lender in Chicago. Today, it’s the largest independent retail lender in the nation, boasting more than 2,700 clients across the country. In January alone, the company funded $1 billion in home loans. Guaranteed Rate has been one of Illinois’ fastest-growing companies for years, and Ciardelli has been recognized as one of the state’s top entrepreneurs.

Since founding Global DMS in 1999, BienAime has led the company to become an industry leader in appraisal management. Global DMS currently has more than 20,000 clients – and a 100% retention rate. In addition to being the CEO, Bien-Aime keeps his fingers on the pulse of new technology, staying directly involved with new product development and spearheading the company’s product expansion. PRESIDENT MCLEAN MORTGAGE CORPORATION The president and founder of McLean Mortgage Corporation, Nathan Burch has been involved in all areas of the company’s operation. In less than five years, McLean has become a powerhouse in the Mid-Atlantic region, and today is one of the top 100 lenders in the nation. Burch got his start in the industry more than a decade ago as a loan officer, quickly rising to become a top producer and branch manager. He’s also the founder of NorthPoint Mortgage in Reston, Va. Burch serves on the MBA’s President’s Advisory Group and several MBA committees. He also serves on the board of governors of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Metropolitan Washington.

JASON HOGG CEO B2R FINANCE When Jason Hogg became CEO of B2R Finance in late 2014, he brought nearly 20 years of entrepreneurial and leadership experience to the role. Last year, under Hogg’s guidance, B2R received the CMBS Deal of the Year Award from the US Securitization Awards. The company also marketed the first multi-borrower rentalhome bonds. Prior to joining B2R, Hogg had gained recognition for founding alternative payment company Revolution Money and being the inventor of a scalable platform that supports numerous businesses, including American Express Bluebird and Walmart.

HOT 100 RICHARD CORDRAY DIRECTOR CONSUMER FINANCIAL PROTECTION BUREAU Since his appointment as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Richard Cordray has faced a constant barrage of criticism from industry leaders who object to his more or less unilateral power over the agency. Currently, Cordray is facing a court challenge from PHH Mortgage, which is appealing a massive fine he levied against the company for engaging in kickbacks. The matter is set to come before the US District Court in April, and industry experts say a loss for the CFPB could go a long way toward stripping Cordray’s powers.
JOSH FRIEND CEO INSELLERATE
SEAN BRANNAN PRESIDENT CAPITAL FUNDING CORPORATION Just a few years into his career in mortgage banking, Sean Brannan is already a major player in the industry. Capital Funding Corporation has financed more residential rehabilitation loans than any other group in the US, and the company and its partners and affiliates currently have more than $2 billion available for investment. Brannan also continues to lead the company to create innovative products, such as lender re-discount lines of credit, which provide a secondary market for REO lenders.

In the last decade, Josh Friend has developed companies that have produced billions in loan originations and consistently beat national conversion rate averages by 30%. Friend’s expertise helped give birth, in 2003, to one of the first automated online pricing engines. In 2012, Friend founded InSellerate, a system that includes sales force automation, lead management, an automated marketing platform and more. Last year, under Friend’s leadership, InSellerate formed a partnership with iLeads, a lead and data intelligence provider, to integrate iLeads technology into InSellerate systems.
BILL ASHMORE PRESIDENT IMPAC MORTGAGE Since taking the reins at Impac Mortgage in 1995, Bill Ashmore has overseen more than $90 billion in residential and commercial originations. He’s also been responsible for managing $30 billion in mortgage assets. Last year, Ashmore guided the company through its acquisition of retail loan originator CashCall, a move that dramatically boosted Impac’s retail mortgage origination.
JOSH MOFFITT FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT SILVERTON MORTGAGE SERVICES Since founding Silverton Mortgage Services in 1998, Josh Moffitt has molded the firm into one of the fastest-growing companies in the nation. Today, Silverton boasts nine branch locations across the Southeast. Still an active originator himself, Moffitt has been recognized with the Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia’s Platinum Award for exceeding $25 million in personal production volume.
BARET KECHIAN ORIGINATOR AND BRANCH MANAGER MORTGAGE MASTER Baret Kechian is one of Mortgage Master’s top originators, logging more than $235 million in origination volume last year alone – and that number represents a 160% increase over his 2014 volume. Kechian has worked with more than 530 clients to close more than 500 loans, and his prolific origination rates have attracted notice: He’s been named to numerous national Top Producer lists over the last three years.
DENNIS BOGGS EVP OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CALYX SOFTWARE Dennis Boggs has served as Calyx Software’s executive vice president of business development for more than 25 years. Under Boggs’ guidance, the company has become a leading provider of mortgage software and has been named one of the top technology providers in the industry. Last year, the company released its new TRID-ready software well ahead of schedule.

STEVE GILBERT REGIONAL SALES MANAGER REMN WHOLESALE One of REMN Wholesale’s top originators, Steve Gilbert racked up $125 million in loan volume last year. He’s been a REMN All Star six years in a row, and a member of the company’s Circle of Excellence for the last five years. Gilbert also has spearheaded increased business for the company in the Northeast as a result of his being licensed in Massachusetts, making REMN able to do business in all 50 states. “Steve does not view his job as sales, but as growing partnerships,” says Carl Markman, REMN Wholesale’s director of national sales. “His new role as regional sales manager has only made him and the entire company stronger.”

Glenn Stearns founded Stearns Lending in 1989 and has guided the company to become the nation’s number-one residential wholesale lender. Last year, Stearns helped shepherd the company through its acquisition by Blackstone. He has been named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, and in 2011, he became the youngest member ever inducted into the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. In addition to Stearns Lending, Stearns has founded and run other mortgage-related businesses, including a title company, an appraisal management company and a due diligence company.
As vice president of client services for Digital Risk, Leo Loomie focuses on building and maintaining business partnerships, and designing, implementing and maintaining complex business solutions. Thanks in part to his efforts, Digital Risk has been named one of HousingWire’s 50 fastest-growing companies. Prior to his role at Digital Risk, Loomie served as a senior manager at Accenture and a consulting partner for both American Express and JPMorgan Chase.
JODIE TANGA PRESIDENT PACIFIC RIM MORTGAGE Since opening her office in Honolulu, Jodie Tanga has grown Pacific Rim Mortgage from a one-person operation to a team of 11. A perennial Hot 100 member, Tanga also has received repeated recognition as one of Hawaii’s top mortgage professionals, including being named the Honolulu StarAdvertiser’s best loan officer and best mortgage company. She was also recognized for being among the top 6% of real estate professionals by Honolulu Magazine.

STEVEN MEYER PRESIDENT ADVISORS MORTGAGE GROUP Steven Meyer started in the mortgage industry as an accountant in 1993. Soon seeing an opportunity to gain more experience, he took to working after hours to make sales calls and originate loans. In 1999, Meyer founded Advisors Mortgage Group in a 400-square-foot office in Shrewsbury, NJ. Since then, Advisors has been recognized as one of the top lenders in the nation, and Meyer himself has been named one of the country’s most influential mortgage executives. In 2015, under Meyer’s leadership, Advisors was named one of the best places to work in New Jersey.
REY MANINANG SVP OF WHOLESALE LENDING CARRINGTON MORTGAGE SERVICES As Carrington’s senior vice president of wholesale lending, Rey Maninang provides strategic direction for the company’s wholesale production sales team. Maninang brings more than two decades of experience to the role, most of it in leadership positions. HOT 100 SCOTT STODDARD CEO QUANDIS A mortgage industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience, Scott Stoddard is the co-founder and CEO of Quandis, a leading provider of mortgage default management technology. In 2015, Stoddard launched Quandis Loan Servicing, an end-to-end technology platform that automates the default process for servicers, lenders, attorneys and other relevant parties. He also spearheaded the creation of the Servicemembers Relief Act Enhanced Technology Solution, which helps prevent illegal foreclosures on members of the military on active status. Booyah Mortgage also started a nonprofit to help veterans repair their credit, initiated a ‘shower bus’ project to give homeless veterans a place to bathe, and became an annual sponsor of the Joe Warrior 5K Walk to benefit the families of fallen soldiers. “A veteran – whether active-duty, discharged, retired or reserve – is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America, for an amount up to and including his life,” Johnson says. “That is honor. MEL WATT DIRECTOR FEDERAL HOUSING FINANCE AGENCY Mel Watt became the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency in 2014 after a contentious confirmation process. While he had the support of industry groups like the Mortgage Bankers Association, Watt’s nomination was staunchly opposed by Senate Republicans. Upon taking office, Watt put the kibosh on some of the more unpopular policies of his predecessor, Edward DeMarco. He gained more popularity with the industry earlier this year, when he unveiled an MBA-endorsed appeals process that will allow an independent arbitrator to resolve disputes between lenders and government-sponsored enterprises like Fannie and Freddie.
DONALD LAYTON CEO FREDDIE MAC Under Donald Layton’s leadership, Freddie Mac has gone from a company on the verge of collapse to a profitable enterprise. Bailed out by the government in the wake of the financial crisis, Freddie has once again started turning profits. As of the second quarter of 2015, Freddie had paid the government $96.5 billion in dividends, far exceeding its original $71 billion bailout.
