A “ROTTEN NIGHT OUT... Broadway has a long tradition of staging shows about, well, staging shows. Rather than come off as insider accounts that speak to only the most die-hard theatergoers, however, the best of these – think “A Chorus Line” and “Noises Off” and “The Producers” – feature the universal humor, terrific songs and widespread appeal that help them develop into long-running hits. The latest entry into this canon is Something Rotten!, the hilarious hit that tells the story of two brothers desperate to write a hit play in the age of Shakespeare. Their hook? They’ll add songs and dancing to create the world’s first big musical! Of course, sequins, showstoppers and miscellaneous shenanigans ensue. So enjoy a rotten night out This Week in Chicago! Something Rotten opens on Tuesday at the Oriental Theatre, 24 W. Randolph. Call 312.977.1700 for show times and tickets ($24-$87). 4
