PIERS TO SUMMER
The answers to some questions are self-evident. For example, if you’ve ever wondered why Navy Pier continues to stand as one of Chicago’s most popular attractions, one visit – or, likely, more than one – will clear things up in a hurry. While certainly a draw all year long, summer is when Navy Pier really comes alive, as locals and visitors alike clamor to be out on the water and to take advantage of the wide array of seasonal activities and attractions. Whether they’re taking a ride on the Centennial Wheel, popping inside to survey the huge collection of Rolling Stones memorabilia in the new Exhibitionism exhibit, climbing aboard one of the popular tour boats from Shoreline Sightseeing (312.222.9328) or Seadog Cruises (888.345.3880), or just taking in the fireworks displays, there are literally dozens of ways to spend a summer day on the Pier. Navy Pier is open daily at 600 E. Grand. Call 312.595.7437 for more information.

Welcome to Chicago and the 2017 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, the world’s largest clinical cancer research meeting bringing together more than 30,000 of the brightest minds in cancer research, education, and care to share advances that benefit patients with cancer everywhere. The theme I chose for this year’s meeting is “ASCO: Making a Difference in Cancer WITH YOU.” The research being presented at the Annual Meeting shows remarkable diversity in advances for patients. Attendees will learn about novel uses of technology and innovative approaches to care for the whole patient; techniques for matching the right patient with the right therapy at the right time; ongoing success in precision medicine and immunotherapy; and new strategies to help patients and survivors live better and longer. There’s no better place to discover the most promising and transformative research in the field of cancer care. From the 2,150 abstracts that have been selected for presentation to the nearly 300 science and education sessions, there are ample opportunities to experience the practice-changing science that takes place in our daily lives.
It is my hope that you thoroughly enjoy this year’s meeting. Thank you for joining me, and I look forward to seeing you. Daniel F. Hayes, MD, FACP, FASCO ASCO President
